  • Not much of a Tutorial, but just some exercises that helped me develop my speed on congas throughout the years.
    Speed is not everything when it comes to percussion, but it does help you become a better overall percussionist.
    Some of the exercises were influenced by Giovanni Hidalgo and Paoli Mejias.
    I'm using:

    I love that one of the first things you say is that speed isn't everything - I completely agree. As you said, melody, tone, flavor, deep knowledge of the clave - all extremely important. That being said, I can appreciate how much time you put into developing your sound and it's impressive to see how fast and tasty you play. Excellent work!

    Wow, nice coordination and speed. Man, you make percussion "sound" easy.
    Its A lotta slow and patient practice.
    I will quote Giovanni H. "la mano secreta es practic."
    Thank you for the share.

    Hi Eric, Thanks for your Videos! I have one question about your Palladium Congas. Do you also have a 14" Supertumba and if yes, does it also gives many overtones? I have one with many overtones and i think about a new, thicker head, the lp head on it is just 1,5mm thick. I think about a 2,5-3 mm head, what would you say? Thanks a lot and kind regards from Germany.

      Daniel T Peace to tune up your drums if you don't mind me answering tighten or loosen the nuts on the side according to the sound you want to get everything should be close to the same sound sometimes people like to have the left side or the right side a little higher or a little lower all depends on how they want to play you can do the same the adjustment doesn't have to be perfect it just has to sound good moisture and heat will slightlychange the tone although neither one will affect the quality of the skin long-term even water damage is okay although they are not waterproof they are water resistant

    Nice technique! Do you use different tunings for different 5 drum gigs? I usually play 3 but I'm experimenting with 5. Any advice for tunings?

    • @APercussionLife
      @APercussionLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. And I do tune differently when I'm out playing but it depends on the gig... Generally I do: Quinto- A, Conga- C, Tumba- B ( i play that to my left) Super Tumba G (to my right) and Second Super Tumba- E... with more ethnic styles I'll sometimes switch things up and tune Quinto- G, Conga- D#, Tumba- C#, Super Tumba- B (right), Cuper Tumba to my left a D#... But its cool on the different melodies you can get when experimenting notes as long as their range isn't so far apart.

    Five drums and speed are great!I'm trying to get a sense of how this helps a working conguero /percussionist to get a band gig in any music genre.Small venue stage space,song arrangement and leaving space for a bass player and drum set player all come in to play when looking at the merits of a five conga stage right for the working conga player.Also requires more trips for load in and out lol.....
