I lived in Thailand for years, so I know what the bonus means to some of these fighters. It's so nice to see. I love what One is doing for these Asian fighters, the opportunities it opens for some of them, the appreciation of their talents. What a wonderful organization. I love One.

@@Josh-eb5vm a good clinch fighter (muay pam) has no chance to shine in ONE, a good kicker (muay tei) is disadvantaged, they'll only train their fists anymore, it's a new sport maybe but this is not muay thai

Well, he did think Kabutov won and he wasn’t wrong at all.

The last round was an easy 10-8 as well.
No way. Shibata was windmilling at the air the first two rounds. Petals GMA was defending and evading the majority, and answering with his own actually damaging strikes. His defense was worn out by the last round, but so was Shibatas strength. Def his round but he was just pawing him. Round 2 was a toss up, round 1 clearly Pet. Watch again close without the sound on
Overall I’m loving these ONE Friday events but in the earlier fights in particular, they’re really changing and dumbing down the sport. 5 rounds and whole fight scoring, Shibata probably doesn’t come out ahead but these shorter fights and big knock out bonuses really incentivize sloppy brawling. I’m glad these guys are getting paid, and there are still incredible technical fights happening, especially as the night goes on each week, but a lot of the beauty of Muay Thai is lost when a performance like Shibata’s gets spun as dominant.

One is changing Muay Thai, soon it will only be about who have the strongest fists. One is killing the ancestral techniques of Muay Thai. I mean ok it’s pleasant to see ko’s but I also like to see fighters work on clinch or use their legs. 4oz gloves and no clinch create imbalance and promotes punches, please think about it.
I agree 100% it is killing the sport of muay Thai. One is currently being sued by the boxing association of Thailand because of this. It's disgusting.
Yeah its great fun but it's certainly a very very narrow view of the sport. Feels like 3/4 of the these new lumpinee fights turn into brawls of some sort when normal MT isn't like that.
Totally agree! Also since most fight also have only 3 rounds and no throws really favors the wild swinging pressure fighters. Too much like kickboxing. It just kickboxing with elbows…I much prefer the more technical and ‘relaxed’ Thai style.
Ya I kinda agree and disagree I mean there were only bandages on the hands in "ancient" MT right? Then the ring refs doing not the best job, you can tell they are MMA judges.
Another big problem I have with 4oz gloves is that's way easier to hold and stall the clinch by not giving the opponent an inch to work which is not possible in boxing gloves at least to that extent and in combination with ring refs breaking clinches rather early is a problem.
But the judges here were total biased and made real bad decisions ruining the overall experience of the events...
Edit: in the End maybe it's an evolution for MT, I mean ONE brings this beautiful Combat Art to the world and changes the life of those fighters, overall a good thing I guess
@@shiddoh_eth if we talk about the "ancient" MT there was no weight category and no limit of time... then it became a sport with official rules, gloves etc.
I agree with you about 4oz gloves but anyway it makes sense according to ONE which don't allows clinch.
At the end, I don't agree with you, this problem is finally banal and recurrent when it comes to choosing between ethics or the financial development of an industry. I feel like it could be possible to give fighters money they deserve and at the same time preserve their sport (and its complexity) and not to send them to the KO half of the time.
At least ONE could rename this sport but not replace it, I'm sure there are still true MT fans who don't want to see the whole muay thai organization drift towards this new format.
Also, about the fact ONE brings this sport to the world I'm not sure if it's really about the format or just that people are not necessarily used to watch MT outside of Asia, since it is much less diffused. ONE managed to capture a significant audience share for various reasons.
I can understand it's easier to capture the attention of a non-initiated by showing him KO but in the long term I don't know if it's a winning bet, I'm already bored of seeing half of the fights end in the first round.
Just keep givin those bonuses, keep these cards full and keep mixing it up. No other organisation like One.

What happened with Teeyai (Thailand) VS Kallistis (Greece) and Chorfah (Thailand) VS Kabutov (Kyrgyzstan)? Both Kallistis and Kabutov should have won, everyone noticed that. I follow "One" because I believe the organization is professional, but really wasn't expecting this type of decisions. Seems we need more transparency. The minimum you can do for now is a rematch. Reffing and judging is very bad in ONE now.
All the fights in Lumpinee stadium are automatically awarded a decision to the Thai fighter when faced against someone from difference nationality.
Judges preference for thai fighters is a shame. Kabutov was the clear winner... what a shame

ONE is not killing Muay Thai. It is taking MT to the global stage! Be smart and stop blaming the slight aberration in rules. Traditional MT might be the loser now but as with many great fighter, you'll fight your way back to the top; and this time it's the top on a global stage!
Only 3 rounds, limited clinch and no throws (is some fights) are not slight aberrations. It is just kickboxing with elbows. Plus I wonder what the effect of small gloves on the health of fighters is. There are already warnings from MT trainers about health. It was also already mentioned the One bonus system will destroy the MT system in Thailand and monopolize everything. Gym’s will likely disappear and children cannot train anymore. The influence of this is much bigger than you might think!
For the moment, it seems so. In years to come, these kids will be the biggest winners! Look far ahead man, beyond the third round, lies the World Domination Belt. Nobody I'm sure want these kids to continue winning just three packs of rice and one five-litre cooking oil for a fight. Let money leads the way. I have the greatest respect for Thai fighters and know their hardships. They deserve more.
