Changing Tube in C02 Chinese laser cutter.

  • Simple process of replacing laser tube in typical chinese CO2 laser cutter.
    The replacement tube in this video was a brand called Cole Tech, from an ebay seller. The brand is junk and I got a refund shortly after. Cloudray branded tubes also appear to be junk and should be avoided.
    The best performing low-cost chinese tubes I have found is a brand called Tongli, sold on aliexpress. It was about 2/3 the price and 2 I have used have worked great so far.
    Not a very dangerous procedure, but 22kV and mains voltage should be treated with care.
    Sorry for poor quality of this video, but I don't really get a change to do additional takes with this one.

    So I have a "50W" laser from ebay. I think it's the same as yours but with red paint instead of blue. It's a Shenhui 350G. Mine came with a Tongli tube, which has now failed at about 2.5 years of age. I'm watching this video so I'll know how to install my new SPT tube, which is 200mm longer than my original tube :-)

    The tube's terminals needs to be grinded with a small metal-file until the metal is bright/reflective prior installation. So are the wiring's cores, those must show bare copper and be reflective (gently scrape them with a razor blade). This is to remove the highly resistive oxidation from the conductors, ensure good contact, and prevent potentially lethal arcing. #stay safe!

    This is the best video on this topic. I have an issue with my 40w tube. It lights up the tube but is not focused & emits no beam. The small piece of rubber tube (on the left) is not secured. Could that be the cause? Should it be glued on? I would really appreciate your help with this. I don't know if I need a new tube. The power just suddenly dissipated to nothing one day.

    Having been bitten by the EHT(15kV) from a studio colour monitor many moons ago I cringed a little when you stuck that nice Fluke meter across the EHT lead! I would have been more inclined to just use a clip lead with say a 1Meg resistor to ground to ensure it was discharged but of course the tube is less likely to act like a dirty big capacitor like CRT do. I did notice some discolouration on your chassis where the EHT lead came up and over the edge, has it been arcing there?

    • @makestuffnow
      @makestuffnow  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's probably a better idea for testing. Even getting out the kmart multimeter for that job would have been a more wise choice.
      I've never noticed any arcing issues. It looked like a small bit of water leakage and dust.

      As the tube nears the ends of it's useful life (maybe 12-18 months) the power starts dropping a lot. My max output power was only about a third it was when new.

      @@Moochers Only possible danger is the high voltage.
      -Make sure to unplug machine completely from mains power and you will be safe while working.
      -The red wire from the power supply has extra thick insulation plastic around it. Only use the same wire. Don't replace it with anything other than wire specially made for this purpose. (the ground wire doesn't matter though).
      -Insulate the connections well with silicone. Even if you do get it wrong, the machine case is gorunded so you will just hear a big bang when you start the laser but it wont damage anything.

    • @makestuffnow

      Like most people end up finding, this "50W" one only measured 37W (like the other one was when it was fresh).
      I've been hassling the seller to repay me the difference for selling me a 40W tube advertised as 50W.
      I even just notices from their emails that these bastards named their ebay store after a more reputable tube seller they have no apparent connection to. So I will probably launch a paypal claim to recover the full amount if they don't act soon.

      At the same time check mirrors/lens for burn marks or dirty smudges and clean/replace if needed.

    • @makestuffnow
      @makestuffnow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the reset button is not fixing it, then switching it on and off should set it back in place. It should be set up to go to home position every time it starts up.

    • @YasserSultan85
      @YasserSultan85 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      makestuffnow! Unfortunately reset button doesn't. And startup reset also doesn't.To be more clear, the ,0,0 point was about 7 cm to a certain point to right and about 2.5 cm to a certain point to top. Now it's about 3 cm to right and 2cm to top for the same certained points. Today I checked the mechanics of the head movement (belts, gears, rails...) and realized that there are 2 switches responsible for determining the 0,0 point while the machine resets. and they are working smoothly. So is there any way in the software to reset the coordinates? or better to reset all the machine settings?
      Sorry for long reply and thank you in advance.

    • @makestuffnow
      @makestuffnow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the control panel on the machine go to the menu. Select 'axis reset'. if this doesn't work, you can try selecting "set fact para' which will restore factory settings, password likely to be CC8888. If that doesn't work then it is likely something physically jammed or offset on the rails.

      makestuffnow! Thank you very much. Today I'm far from the machine, I will try the factory reset tomorrow.

    does anyone know why my red cable connected to the tube makes a strong electricity spark when i press pulse button? many thanks in advance

    • @makestuffnow
      @makestuffnow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Possibilities could be-
      1) Poorly insulated connection at tube
      2) Dead or almost dead tube
      3) Bad power supply
      Check connection first. Make sure it is tightly wound and insulated properly. If it arcs in pulse mode, but is ok when cutting from a file it might be the power supply. But there are many ways a bad tube can cause arcing, so a bad tube would be the most likely problem.

    • @ashkansadeghi124
      @ashkansadeghi124 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your reply! I bought a new tube recently, it is tightly wounded with a glue gun insulated, but not sure how well it should insulated! does electricity tape would do the job? and in regard with the tube being bad, is this something I should blame the sender from korea?
      kind regards

    • @makestuffnow
      @makestuffnow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glue gun is not recommended, one of the reasons is the heat when applying the glue can damage the connector on the tube. But if the glue is covering all of the metal at the conenction, it should insulate well enough. Electrical tape is not good enough.
      If you are confident the connection is well insulated, and the power supply worked fine on the previous tube, then you should contact the tube seller for support.
