Yeah, you would think so. But I doubt these guys watch many Saturday morning cartoons. You would think that Brett might, because she has kids, and so does the contestant, but they're older. I dunno, it was the first thing I thought of. Oh, and Charles was actually on a kid's show, Lidsville. But she didn't pick Charles.

I've been surprised by a number of responses over the years that the celebrities haven't heard of that appear on the Super Match board. Mainly singers it seems like. 🤔🤔
H/H match update: ... Today's action: We start right off with a H/H match today! A brand-new champion parlayed Fannie's "Hooker" answer into a $500 win in the audience match in the final moments of yesterday's program, and I was speculating if he'd choose her for the H/H match... ... and he does indeed choose Fannie! This will be her 20th time playing the head-to-head. Her last time up to bat was way back in 563, when she scored a match. She currently has a 52.6% accuracy rating... Today's (first) H/H question: "__________ Knock" (I'm not sure about this one. Hard knock? Knock-knock? I'll say knock-knock...) Fannie doesn't take long to make up her mind, but once she's done writing, she hesitates and looks toward Richard before finally filing her card... but wait! Before the ding, she pulls the card back out and adds a little tiny something. It can't be more than a letter. Ding. Our champion says "knock-knock" as well. (Maybe I was over-thinking it? Is that really the best answer?) The audience erupts in a hearty round of applause. Fannie looks glum. Is she merely acting? No, unfortunately, she said "Please" knock. (To quote Gene, that was a hard knock for our champion.) No match this time. ~~~ A quick game sees our reigning champion defeated (with his $600), and a new champion ready to try her luck and intuition with the Super Match. (Unfortunately, Fannie and our poor ex-champion were not on the same wavelength.) Today's audience match question: "_______ and Dale" (My thoughts: Chip, Hill, ...?) The celebs: Brett (Smith), Richard (Hill), and Bill (no response given) The choice: Hill The answers: Hill, Roy, Chip Well, at least she didn't strike out! Now she has a chance to play for $1,000. Who will she choose? Well, after a brief detour (the last four attempts were by Brett x 3 and Fannie x 1), the head-to-head returns true to form with Richard. Today's (second) H/H question: "__________ Margaret" (Back to the easy ones! Ann-Margaret. Is there another good answer? Of course, I may be forgetting another personality who was top-of-mind nearly 50 years ago...) Richard begins writing immediately. The camera cut away, so I can't see how long he wrote, but it was fairly quick. Our new champion says "Ann" with a tentative tone, as if she's not feeling confident. Despite Richard's quick little frown, I have to think that he matched. The audience thinks she's right, anyway. Yes, he did! "Ann-" was on his card. First H/H match all week! Richard scores his 164th H/H match. Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Fannie's loss brings her to a tie with Betty White at a very respectable 50% accuracy rate!) (Note, for tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50% (17 wins in 34 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50% (10 wins in 20 attempts). Charles - 47.7% (21 wins in 44 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 41.4% (24 wins in 58 attempts). Richard - 40.7% (164 wins in 403 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 694, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
Love the suspense of the answer to BLANK Margaret starting at 19:15. And Richard's look of mild offense when Gene ineptly suggests "Queen Margaret." (Hello, Gene! The best known Margarets were Queens of the Scots, not of England!)
Someone told me that the star wheel was introduced because the contestant ALMOST ALWAYS chose Richard for the head-to-head match! Can anyone confirm this
I don't know the reason for the change, but I think it was for the better. I love Richard, and would have chosen him given the chance, but, I just like the uncertainty of the wheel.
@@CousinOresama The reason for the change was to add some suspense because smart contestants always chose Richard since he was the only one of the panel who should a consistent proclivity to match.

Julie Overright...I thought the same thing. Chip and Dale were very popular Disney characters through the 50's and 60's, so considering they were in 1976 it doesn't seem like such a stretch that someone on the panel or Gene would have heard of them. The studio audience knew who they were, but Gene made them sound like Chip and Dale were something new by saying the audience polled that day must have "au courant" meaning current, up with the times.
