    Really great choices Stacey. I love my Fothergilla! It puts on a wonderful show in spring and then again in fall. I’m really interested in the Honeysuckle, hopefully I can find one at our nursery. What I really need is a much larger property! Thank you for making gardening even more fun. All the best.

    It is extremely surprising to me how few people plant fothergilla. This is by far one of the best shrubs for both incredible fall color AND reasonably early spring (scented) bloom.. BTW We finally got hold of Golden Shadows pagoda and it exceeded every expectation

    Question-when do you prune spirea? Mine has gotten dead areas and I wanted to do a hard prune to about 12 inches. Thanks, great seeing you at the 4 Star garden event! 😊

      You can prune it in the early spring, when the buds are just emerging. This will show you which branches are dead and can be cut back completely. She was happy to see you there too, said it was a great event!

    Hi Stacey, I have a couple questions for you. Last week my husband and brother lined up and planted two North Pole Arborvitaes, four Emerald Green Arborvitaes, then two more North Poles. Do you think they will grow nicely together since they're different types of Arborvitaes?
    I also live in Michigan but I'm worried we might have planted them too late this season. Should I be worried? What do you think? I love watching your shows!

      Hi there! These plants should be just fine with their recent planting. In most areas, the soil won't freeze until late November at some point. Their aesthetic success is all in the eye of the beholder, if you like the mixed look, it will be lovely.

    Hello from Ann Arbor ish area, we have a new Japanese maple in a large pot that is not ready for a windy/harsh winter. We also are not sure where we want to plant it permanently. can we bring it inside for the winter or should it stay protected in a garage? Thank you for your videos and podcast!

    • @pwcolorchoice
      @pwcolorchoice  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there! Your Japanese maple would be most successful overwintering in your garage. Be sure that it gets water over the winter. You can use the thawing of snow as a reminder of when to water and to mimic the natural precipitation it would be getting outside.

    I purchased 2 candy cane spirea online in quart size. My plan is to grow in containers in zone 6b. My thought is to bump up to larger pot to grow in, protect through the winter then plant in my container on patio is spring. Or should I just put in container now?

      You can certainly overwinter them in an unheated space, like a garage or entryway. Keep it watered over the winter. Pot it up in the spring and it should be good to go!

    Is there a temperature cut off for when you shouldn’t water the newly planted shrub? Assuming it’s been in the ground at least a month with good watering?

    • @pwcolorchoice
      @pwcolorchoice  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can plan to stop watering a new shrub once the ground has frozen. If that doesn't happen in your area, then continue to water when the soil dries out if there isn't precipitation.

      @@pwcolorchoice this is probably a stupid question but how can I tell the ground is frozen?

    The panicles in my zone 8b go from white to brown and do not turn the pink color.

    • @pwcolorchoice
      @pwcolorchoice  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are a few reasons a panicle hydrangea might turn brown prematurely.
      1. Not enough water. If they dry out for a bit they will not be able to make the transition.
      2. Very high, sustained nighttime temperatures. If they are subjected to temperatures above 70 degrees for the entire day and night for an extended period of time, they will not be able to make the transition.
      3. Frequent water from above, often irrigation or just overhead watering. If water collects on the white blooms frequently, it will cause them to turn brown instead of aging to pink.
