Musaeus College 💙💛
Musaeus established in 1893; not in 1891. Centenary Stamp is best proof.
Musaeus College was founded in1891, but due to the lack of a permanent building it wasn't registered as a school until 1893. The century was celebrated on 1993 as result of that. However this was corrected as 1891 later by school historians. Source: Tale of mud hut by N.K Pilapitiya.

Musaeus nam western name should be changed as ‘ kisagothami balika’
In a school that defines itself on the pass rate of their students, should it not concern parents that a girl jumped out of a 3rd story window after sitting an exam, because she was afraid her results wouldn't be good enough to make her bullying teacher happy? Or that another student hanged herself in a bathroom with her school tie, after a prefect found a phone in her bag, humiliated her for hours inside the school until a teacher insisted on going to the principal and calling the girls father, even as the girl begged her not to as he was a recovering heart patient. It was on her way to the principals office that she excused herself to go to the bathroom and ended her life.
It makes you wonder how bad punishment at Musaeus College can get to make students feel like they rather choose death than face the repercussions of their actions.
In each incident the school responded by victim blaming the dead girls. The first was mentally disturbed they said, the second had porn in her phone. As if that made their deaths understandable. Both widely reported in every national newspaper with no regard for the families concerned. To say their grieving parents were beyond traumatized at what was being said about the school was saying about their daughters, is saying it lightly. Especially when you learn that these claims were all false, manufactured to save the reputation of the school at the expense of the deceased girls and their surviving parents. Not the kind of behaviour and values a Buddhist institution that educates developing minds should display.
Though the parents repeatedly called for inquiries into what happened, there never was one, the school never accepted responsibility, never apologised to the grieving parents, they never faced any kind of inspection about the practices within the school or punishment over the reasons surrounding the suspicious deaths. They moved on and acted like nothing happened while parents continue to praise the school for its high educational standards. Ideally Musaeus should be thoroughly monitored by the authorities and parents should be duly warned about what kind of operation they have going on within, cunningly hidden from the public. Maybe things have improved now under Mrs. Senadira, but the kind of bullying i witnessed when i was in school, and their actions after the suicides of two of their own, speaks volumes about the true standard of the school. But hey, as long as their A/L pass rate is better than most and the school looks pretty, who cares right?
You can cover a steaming pile of dung with roses to make it appear better, but the stink is never going to go away.
Damn why isn't this on the top
Those two incidents only show that two girls are enough to ruin the reputation of a school and one teacher is enough to destroy a life of a student. It's nothing about the school. So stop ruining the image of a school which has brought up thousands of responsible buddhist women in the country. Don't try to give the false image that the school only focusses on studies & has a severe punishment system. Infact, complaining to parents was the only punishment we feared. All else was fun like standing near the principal's office cutting off periods. But if a student is afraid of parents to the point they decide to end their lives, that's probably something wrong with the parents & not the school.
Not punishments, but the atmosphere & the attitude created by the school itself brings discipline to its students and that's the biggest reason for Musaues College to shine amongst other schools.
These two incidents are extremely tragic and traumatizing. For a school-aged girl to come to the decision to take her life and then instantly act upon it, is rather inconceivable in the context of a 'normal' background. I strongly believe these two girls must have had a difficult, oppressing, and strained relationships with their parents.
At the time we were in school, it was well known for the high expectations and discipline of the girls. However, I can't recall them being unreasonably harsh or severe.
