  • Part 2 - The idiots Guide to foiling!!
    Well I know I said I would bring you an equipment run down etc...
    Buuuuuut as I nearly made a foiling gybe after the first session I was super pumped to get back out there and nail it...
    Unfortunately I didn't have Alfie filming but with the aid of a GO PRO and a Simon Moore (thanks Si :) I managed to film and document the 2nd session!!
    It was a Perfect session with regards to kit set up. The wind was a steady 12 - 14knots and I used a 5.6 icon wave sail and 126 Monster (free race Board) and the AFS - Hydrofoils 85 Wind Foil. This seemed spot on... I would say it was the perfect foiling wind and the kit was felt so balanced!
    Going in a straight line felt super comfortable with only the odd moment where I got it wrong... and in the end I got the gybes consistent!! :)
    Super happy with that as the progression is feeling fast. Although I did try gybes all and I mean all day :)? ...it's like learning to windsurf again and it feels awesome.
    Any questions or comment put them below or anything you want me to cover.
    ...at the moment I'm just enjoying the sessions and I will try to pass on what I'm leant!
    Cheers

    Just a matter of time before someone gets badly injured. The crashes when you fell backwards made me wince. Still not sure how you managed to avoid A&E after that jump. Looks like you got lucky by a couple of centimetres.

      @WindsurfingTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luke Heatley maybe.. I think that’s the crash you have to be careful of. But so far not touched the foil.. although when I watched the jump back on the video I wS like .. arghhhhhhhh.. that was close!!

    Very dangerous manouvering between Optimist sailors of young age without having control. Stop this shit...

    good foiling! But it would might be a good idea to wear a helmet by learning how to foil... Keep going ben, well progress!

  • @AngusMcIntyre
    @AngusMcIntyre 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Legs have got to stay rigid Ben! As soon as you take pressure out of your knees and ankles you allow the foil to do whatever it likes. Highly entertaining stuff as usual :D

      Angus McIntyre that makes total sense.. and I totally felt that 👍🏻

    Yeah, you did some really nice jibes but also really nasty wipeouts. Some of them were looking scary😱😱😱 Now everybody can imagine the skill level of Balz Müller doing freestyle moves with a foilboard?! Wow that‘s fantastic 🤙🏼🤪✌️

    • @WindsurfingTV
      @WindsurfingTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Balz and his brother are crazy... I'd be surprised if one of them doesn't stag them selves with the foil soon!!! I mean they must have been close already... I'd need full body armour for me to try foil freestyle!! Nearly chopped my ear off doing a jump!

    Funny, i do my foiling jibe stepping out further to the rail with the backfoot in the end, stepping and flipping later! Also go immediately for the new front strap. The feeling you describe with the board coming towards you when you step I only had with 4.0 and 3.6 on the 86 wide.

      Bart Kramer it’s early days... and I have tried to keep myself away from watching an ‘how to...’ videos... and thought I’d do what ever felt natural.. I’m sure when I get more time on the foil, the gybe will be all about feel and I can do what I want without thinking. As at the moment I’m really concentrating on where my weight is and trimming the foil. But I have to say it’s amazing to go back to the learning stage again.. I love the challenge

    Thanks for the first realistic Wind foiling (for novices) vid I've found. Good work Ben. About to purchase a RS One convertible.... Stoked.

    Great video, how do i avoid that dangerous and strange crash that is showed in the video and happens very often to me (i mean the one that your knees are bended and head going back near the wing…). My feelings are so different from slalom or wave windsurfing ordinary crashes….Thanks.

    Getting back to this years later. It seems like you had a lot of fun on the foil back then. What happened?

    • @WindsurfingTV
      @WindsurfingTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      The feeling… I still like foiling but for me the feeling is not as good as normal windsurfing! Plus there is a lot of logistics and setting with foiling! I still foil but given a choice in the place I live I would choose normal fin sailing first!

    You really want some dihedral on the foils. Some forgiveness..

  • @johnscott1889

    I change feet early, front straight into front strap and rear in front of rear footstrap across the board so I can foot steer while I flip the sail

  • @paulosilva-dm1qb

    U know. after watching u tryong to foil i notice u run a agert risk everytime u fall. Particulatly when u fall with you back facing the tip of the rear wing of the foil and I suddenly realized that that risk could be overcome if the end of the rear wings didn´t end in fact they could go around and join at the base of the fin....like a big square or a round shape. that indeed could give enev more stability the whole setting...

    Your so fortunate to have a flat place to learn. I had to learn in the Atlantic ocean with pounding shore break and crazy waves and current. After six months of foiling, I still haven't experienced flat water. Awesome jibe. I am a bit jealous!

    • @WindsurfingTV
      @WindsurfingTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LH Coolbreeze yep.. that’s why I drove to this spot. Thought I’d master the basics here as I thought the foil was enough to work out without waves thrown into the mix! West Kirby is a great spot!
