You might wanna check out the Uni Kuro Toga mechanical pencil. It's literally the reason why Japanese gets top marks as it shows how clever they are. When you write, the lead worn down and smudgy until you rotate the pencil a little and get a fresh edge, then the lines are crisp. Kurutoga pencils rotate the lead so you always get a fresh edge to write a crisp line.

So pencils are mostly preference. My advice is getting a nice pencil case and a pencil sharpener with a lid (I like the prismacolor one but it’s up to you) so the shavings won’t get everywhere. I had pencils (both types), pens, sharpener, extra lead, and a couple of nice erasers and I took it everywhere!! Had everything I needed. I also suggest getting a small little notebook if you doodle all over your notes and stuff. That way you’ll have them without keeping a ton of notes after the year ends.

Tips for university freshmen: most of these things you can get a free version on campus, just not the headphones or lamp. If you see any campus departments tabling, they got free swag most times. The campus is went to gave water bottles as care packages when you entered certain programs (some were academic programs, others were food related ones). And my student government office had all the resources needed to take tests for free. There are departments on campus that are in place to help you, all you gotta do is ask around.
The sony XM4's are the best investment i ever made the sound is soo much better than airpods and they are perfect when you have to study in loud places, also it's so good to just vibe to your music in the very loud subway
