Having just done Marella Discovery (and loving it) lovely to see your take on it. I’m always fascinated how you can have so many different holidays on the same ship! Plus picked up some excellent vlogging tips - great video 😎
Great video Guys ! Discovery is a nice ship in our view and we’ve enjoyed our times aboard. Marella get a lot right with their format and their ships always feel fun despite their age. We particularly liked the Live Room and have had some groovy nights in there ..

Fully agree that the Discovery compares well with newer ships like the MSC Virtuosa. I personally prefer the Explorer due to the Indigo lounge, the Market Buffet & Nonna's, but the Discovery has a fine atrium and comfortable seating area on deck 4.
It is a tough one! There’s elements we prefer about the Explorers and Voyager. But as you say, the Discoveries do have beautiful Atriums! We like all the ships for different reasons! Thanks for watching! 😃
We love the atrium on Discovery. I have fond memories of Father Christmas descending in the glass lift on Christmas Day in the Caribbean! We only have Voyager to do now to complete the Marella collection. We probably prefer the Discoveries, but the Explorers have better cabins. Great summary 👌

We go on the discovery in July and look forward to it. We have only ever cruised with Tui (celebration and destiny) and loved it. As long as they are clean and well maintained I'd always pick an older ship over a gigantic theme park on the sea.
We’re not jealous at all! 😂 Where are you visiting? Sadly, we never got the chance to experience the Celebration or Destiny 😔 We probably lean towards preferring older ships, but we can see how the newer ones have their advantages for some cruisers. At the end of the day, there’s a cruise ship out there for everyone!
@NamyDoesCruising you're absolutely right. We're getting older and don't need all the flumes and gizmos but young kids love them and companies need to attract families. Our itinerary is Gibraltar, Cadiz, Malaga, Cartagena and Mallila, but not necessarily in that order. Next year we are going with Fred Olsen to Norway on another 30+ year old ship.
That sounds like a wonderful itinerary! We did something similar on Marella Voyager. You’ll have to let us know what you think! We’ve never sailed with Fred Olsen before, but their ships do look lovely!
Just been on Discovery in the Caribbean for 2nd time and booked to go again next year. Comfortable ship, a bit dated but suits our needs. We choose Marella because they have the best itineraries with fewer days at sea than P&O for similar cruises. Also like the upfront cost without the tip system. Can pay if you like but do have the choice. Have cruised With Celebrity in Far East and their ships and facilities are better but they don't do what we want in the Caribbean so Marella are an acceptable alternative.
We completely agree that Marella offers more attractive itineraries than P&O, especially with more port days! We also love that everything is included in the base fare with Marella, so you don’t have to spend anything extra if you don’t want to. Thank you so much for your comment! 😃
Everyone to there own what they like . My wife and I saled on Dicovery 2 stayed in a grand suite it was lovely that's where it stopped . The ship was of low quality and food was very poor.
@graemedocherty3088 Their ships are certainly impressive, so we can see why you would say that! Can’t comment on Princess, but we will be trying them for the first time in a few months time!
I stopped reading reviews years ago. People lie, and people have different ideas about what they like or dislike. If I don't like Sushi, does that mean I will give a bad review if I am served it? I love Marella Cruises, they suit my particular taste, and having been on Discovery 2 and Voyager they do the job very well.
Reviews are definitely subjective, and we always use them as a rough guide. Whenever we cruise, we make sure to go in with an open mind. We completely agree - Marella Cruises are fantastic, and we struggle to find many faults with any of the ships in their fleet!
Thank you for sharing this. We are doing our first cruise this summer Highlights of the Mediterranean on Marella Discovery so this is very useful. I have heard that the Glass House is Adults only at certain times of the day. We are going with Children, is this correct?

But having taken a look online, did find a review from April 2024, where someone did mention that the Glass House is designated as an adults-only space between 2pm and 5pm.
