Good find. I'm reading the introduction to her book from the link. I enjoyed digging into Baudrillard a bit.

Another great video! well timed also, I’ve been unwell recently and spent a lot more time pretending to be a fighter pilot in war thunder and neglecting my uni projects than I’d like.

Literary stories are a type of virtual reality. The reader of 'The Neverending Story' has an avatar in Sebastian, and Sebastian's avatar while reading the story is Aetryu, which he in turn flushes out from his imagination, which is also the reader's imagination. You mention the status quo - the whole book (as well as the movie) is about changing the status quo. Not just the world of Fantasia but Sebastian's world (the reader's world) by giving the Empress a name. It grounds reality. Without something to ground reality, Fantasia will be destroyed, much like our world by nihilism and dissociation. "People who have no hopes are easy to control; and whoever has the control, has the power" as Gmork scarily puts it.
