My biggest mistake

  • Today, I’ll tell you about my biggest mistake and how I solved it.
But before I tell you more, please save this post and follow me for more insights into a dance teacher's life 🫶🏽.
I have been dancing Bharata Natyam since I was 6 and on stage since I was 12, so you can imagine how much stress my body has been under since an early age.
When I was 19, my knee pain was so severe that I stopped dancing for one entire year. I was so frustrated 😣, I didn’t know what else to do.
As a 21-year-old, an Indian physiotherapist predicted to me that my dance career was over due to my physical damage. Over? Never!
I didn’t give up. I searched for what caused all my problems. I analyzed which mistake I had made. I began to learn about dance medicine. I researched which part of my dance training was causing harm. I no longer followed traditional ways blindly. I started using my intelligence, and I changed what had to be changed. I accepted that dance is not designed to be healthy, so I took more responsibility to stay healthy.
The result was immense: I remained without pain for 20 years.
Then, a foot inflammation ultimately slowed me down again two years ago. I had to stop dancing. Desperation!
I realized that you ALWAYS have to be careful. Even if you work with your body daily, you can never be sure you understand everything.
Bharata Natyam Dancers, take care, have courage 💪🏽, and start learning about dance medicine!
