I’m a controller for part of the airspace you flew through and saw an SF50 on its way down to the Channel Islands today while at work. Didn’t know what it was so a quick search later I arrived here! Great video, lovely aircraft!
As a non pilot with just a bit of sim time, these are really interesting videos showing the interaction with atc and adapting your fpl. The discussion between the two of you is also very helpful to explain your thinking. Also love the sf50
I fly this plane on X-Plane 12 and it is a great way to learn the actual numbers for this plane. Thank you for this video. Just living my fantasies on the PC.
Great video, Ben. It's a quirky looking thing, the Vision. Avionics are really cutting edge, I love the Garmin functionality. I am used to the NXi but all of the Garmin translate across quite seamlessly, I think. I am not normally a fan of smaller jets (prefer turboprops like the TBM) but this is something I'd like to fly, it seems very intuitive and perfectly set up for even single pilot IFR.
Absolutely fantastic video! I have been a huge fan of the cirrus jet since it’s inception almost a decade ago when absolutely no one had anything like it. Now you see things like the Honda jet and the Flaris and stratos trying to come in their own with one and in my opinion they don’t hold a candle to the sj50 especially the gen2. So glad you made this extended IFR video not many are on TH-cam especially over Europe! Awesome job! I wish rolls Royce came out with a light jet like Honda and cirrus since they have been making fantastic engines for aviation since before ww2. In my opinion nothing sounds better than a roaring rolls Royce Merlin engine on a spitfire blazing thru the skies
Wow, that was epic! I’m so glad I found your channel. Listening to the ATC I found the most complicated. Always pilot flying & pilot monitoring is the best way.
great and excellent piece of air craft ever produced under the sun and the moon ❤❤💯💯✌🤟🤘👍💪🙏🌹🌹🌷🌷🪐🪐🌕🌈🎯🎯💎💎💎 the best fantastic air craft and lovely out standing
Interesting to see the differences between flying in the US and Uk. Im interested why you have to get a clearance on the ground, ask for services on check in with a new controller, and then get an airways clearance instead of just one clearance on the ground. Thanks for showing us how you guys do it.
Because of the way the airspace system works, in short. Unlike the US, where class G only extends up to 700-1200ft almost everywhere, there are large areas of the UK where class G extends all the way up to FL195. Gloucester exists in one of those areas, and because it's so far away from the airways you cannot just be cleared straight onto the airways. Instead, you're essentially cleared IFR to the controlled airspace boundary, hence the "remain outside." At airports inside controlled airspace or very close to controlled airspace, this isn't required, and you get your airways clearance off the ground. Another factor is that because it's class G, and uncontrolled, you cannot be given a normal ATC service. Therefore, the UK has a "suite" of services available to aircraft operating in class G, depending on the needs. You can see that Ben first requested a basic service with Gloucester, because they are non radar, and a radar-derived traffic service with Swanwick Mil, who have the use of Radar. Swanwick then coordinate with London to get an airways joining clearance, which then quasi-clears the aircraft to their destination via the planned route or an alternate specified routing. So, the first call with Gloucester is an IFR "clearance" to the boundary of controlled airspace, then you request your enroute service outside of controlled airspace, and then you'll be given your airways clearance. At the fundamental level, that is how the airspace system in the UK functions.
At first until I saw real people I thought it was Microsoft Flightsimulator and wondered why the plane was released 1 year ago and I didnt realise😂 Such a lovely video, thanks for sharing
Outstanding presentation and great flight. I lost you on final and decision for the Go Around. Was there a plan prior in briefing for it? I had to hear the intention and clearance. Then the dang thing ended. What was the decision after go around? I'm in curiosity mode. Onward 🌈
I had a MEIR 5k hrs but zero time with an autopilot…….nothing but poling and no glass cockpit either. It was the 60s/70s though and things are a bit different now ))
Is it possible to fly it from the right seat? I've been flying the VisionJet (the original in Xplane 11 AND FlightFX g2 in MSFS) hundreds of hours. I started in 2019 and haven't stopped yet. I absolutely love the plane. But i usually use my left hand on the throttle on my lap and right hand on a side stick next to my thigh. Yesterday, for the first time, i tried to flip it for an approach, so it closely resembles the actual placement of those controls. I almost crashed. Can the SF50 be flown from the right seat? I know it does have sidestick on the right side as well, but the screens are tilted to the left seat, aren't they? Or is it possible to tilt them the other way?
Ben I like these tapes on the Visionjet because of the dialogue explaining why and how the G3000 is being set, particularly the various split screen presentations. With my knowledge of the three touch screen controllers, the fixed angle of the instrument panel allows me to follow the keystrokes to some degree. I just have to get my ear adjusted to British accents. Patrick Morrissey from Albuquerque
Wow. The biggest airplane I have flown is a C172 (and it's been 10+ years) so I had to go look up how to calculate KTAS. 190 indicated / (31000 * 0.00002) = 307KTAS. Was that really with ~36% thrust?
Trying to fly this aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator. May I ask a question? There was a lot of stepping on audio early so I missed if you use FLC to climb at 165 knots. Cheers.
Living in Manchester with my nearest airport being Liverpool, I’d love to try this fun hop across the Irish Sea to Dublin to visit family - plus flying this aircraft in Irish airspace is stunning, from Kerry, up through Shannon, Aran Islands, Galway, Knock, Sligo and up to Donegal - IFR flights are essential as the Irish weather west of the River Shannon can change to IMC very rapidly, especially on approach to EIKN even if the weather at Dublin remains VMC
Can the cluttering compass rose be removed from the display? it's such legacy design like how the first cars were designed like horse drawn carriages. Speed and altitude tapes should also go away. Could you imagine a tesla having that.
@@PlaneOldBen let's say hypothetically it has use, it could be switched on but default should definitely be off and that would make it clearer just how low quality their synthetic vision is. comparing to MS FS2020 shows there is room for imrovement. Looking at your descent there was no need to go VS at FL200. The VNAV path was only capturing FL200 but it would have continued to FL140 after it met FL200 restriction. It would have only levelled off if you had FL200 pre set in alt bug
Love these videos. I’m new to aviation, so I’d like to ask, why did you do a go around, was that planned from the start or a result of your approach not being optimal?
I was surprised the plane was so heavily loaded for relatively short flight and 2 pob..were you transporting gold bars for the SNP inependance effort..?
No we were not! Consider the words in the video - we flew the whole leg back after this and didn’t want to refuel again before recovering back to Cranfield, via Turweston. The fuel level and weight were appropriate for the flight.
High Ben from Ireland. Excuse my ignorance but why would you ask for Basic Service and not Radar on an IFR flight? Flown in the UK many times and always friendly welcome. Love the vids.
Class G gotta love it 😊 and it’s always a busy airspace, to the north and east you have the glider and hang glider clubs. West is traffic from Bristol and Cardiff along with a few grass strips. And south is Kemble and the Wiltshire region of madness. ;) welcome to EGBJ and as my instructor first told me you will either be put off and look elsewhere or you shall flourish as a pilot and excel with baptism by fire
