The BMI is useful. I was almost a hundred pounds overweight and noticing how much harder just existing was. Looked up what my BMI should have been. Lost weight (just reduced portions, nothing serious), and now I'm 20 pounds from what my BMI should be and I'm already feeling physically better and with better self-esteem.

As a female disabled veteran I just have to say the "female soldier" asking what she gains as a leader or soldier by pulling her hair back off her face every morning has obviously never been in a combat situation. Let me educate her and I hope she sees this (which she won't if she doesn't pull back her hair to regulation standards), you gain the ability to SEE what you are doing. This would include the ability to direct anyone in your unit and see what you are aiming at with your weapon. Which is paramount in any combat situation.... obviously.

So many patients who went to those state mental hospitals were repeat voluntary self admissions, too. Lots of crazy people have spells where they get bad and need a safe place where they can't hurt themselves or other people. Or they go catatonic and need help feeding, dressing, etc. Those facilities served the poorest people. The wealthy still have plenty of private mental hospitals for their use and always have. When I was younger, before they closed the hospitals in California, I had a aunt with paranoid schizophrenia. She'd be fairly normal, then get where she was hearing messages in songs on the radio, and think Billy Joel stole all his big songs from her, and that the family was plotting against her. She would check herself in for the couple of months and then be okay. She had a really bad time of it when they closed the hospitals.

As a man with long hair, let me tell you why you have to keep your hair short or securely tied back in the military... It can get in your face and obscure your vision, it can get caught in objects (helmet, gas mask etc.) or machinery, upholding good hygiene is more difficult with long hair (dirt & lice). How you gonna be in the military and not know this?
