What good would it do to serve a sentence without parole or days earned for good behavior? For one thing it is a way to facilitate behavior change in a prisoner-for another reason prisoners on parole are supervised and therefore it is safer for the general public. Do you realize guards or cops deserve these controls over prisoners who have little other reason to avoid violence toward authorities?

This is a brutal one. All these teenagers beating on one person. Just horrible. Just my opinion, they are all guilty of murder on this poor defenseless girl. They had a responsibility, to her, to make sure she made it back home ok. They all knew the other two went back after her again. I mean come on, one of them had said, she's had enough but didn't try to help her further. Shameful. And shame on the girl who just couldn't own up to her responsibility of her actions and making a charade out of it. Sometimes, prison will dole out its own justice. My heart breaks for what Reena went through and for her family’s living nightmare in the aftermath.
The said the Canadian Criminal Justice System is very different than the U.S.
I recall Russell Williams pled guilty to the murders and crimes he committed in the first degree and multiple other counts of criminal actions.
He was given multiple 25 year life sentences so there was no opportunity for him to be set free.
In this case under the Canadian justice system they were tried under Second Degree murder, not clear if the provision for those who commit murder in the second degree who are under the age of 18 was applied.
Given little forensic evidence other than the jacket that they got the convictions speaks to good police work to get convictions based on witness accounts and Warren’s confession, Kelly did not confess, on the third trial she conceded that got her on the jacket on the stand, a slip on her part that demonstrated her guilt and participation.
•Persons in Canada convicted of second-degree murder are not eligible for parole until they have served between 10 and 25 years, as determined by the Court.
It is important to note that convicted persons who were under 18 at the time of the offence have different periods of parole ineligibility.
To change the Criminal Justice system would seem to require an overhaul at the highest level of Parliament and that requires a majority, including citizen votes who elect representatives to parliament to push such a change as the #1 priority to change the Constitution.
🇨🇦Under The Constitution Act, 1867, Parliament has exclusive authority to enact criminal law and procedure; most criminal offences are found in the Criminal Code.
      I don’t see that shifting.
Married to a Canadian, many see the U.S. justice system as barbaric in imposing death sentences, and/or life without parole in some states.

I may be the only one in the world who thinks this way but I believe if you take a life, your life should be forfeited. In today’s world we live in a world where there are no consequences for one’s actions anymore. Imagine if we lived in a world where your punishment befitted the crime. People would think twice before they did the wrong thing but as the world stands today, they know that they’ll be out within a few years; if they’re caught. How many people get out of jail and continue to do the wrong thing and don’t care. How many people live in fear, how many innocent people have to die before the law changes?! You don’t have to like everyone but just because you don’t like someone doesn’t give you the right to attack them or take their life. This young lady deserved to live her life, she didn’t deserve to die. All those girls and that one guy don’t deserve to live in a world where they didn’t respect life at all. Their lives aren’t any more important than that poor young girl they attacked. There was no justice for this young lady in this world but thank God that in the next life, they will be judged properly. May God have mercy on their souls.

If they know and there’s absolutely no doubt then I think they forfeit their lives. How can we have a better safer world when people know they’ll be let out to kill again? That’s not justice! There has to be something that will make them think again. Instead of them not caring and killing for what ever reason they think is justified. If there’s nothing for them to lose, then they won’t stop & think. Everybody’s life is important but with the sentences murders are getting it’s saying that some lives aren’t worth much, at least to me anyway. I know that people have argued this for ever & we probably will keep arguing about it but something really needs to change because the system that’s in place now is not working.

Where does all the anger come from? The kids have no regard for life. I was bullied from the 4th grade to the 11th. There was very little physical abuse. The verbal abuse was constant.
The principal's daughter was the ring leader. She got others in on the bullying, and I was so hurt and embarrassed every Monday through Friday. I hated going to school. At one point in the 4th grade I was seriously trying in my 9 year old mind to come up with a way to kill myself. My parents always took me and my siblings to church, and no one from my school was there. It became my saving grace. I made good and caring friends there. Monday would come and I had to go to back to school.
I was always on hard, and developed a low self esteem. When I graduated and went to college that was nearby, things changed.
I made so many friends. Slowly my gard came down.

She’s never shown a moment of remorse since she killed Reena. Warren Glowatski on the other hand did everything possible to atone for what he did. Reena’s parents were both 100% in favour of him getting paroled. And there were two different events in this case. There was the group that beat her up, and then the two that killed her. It’s not one group that beat her up and killed her. That is why some of them only got six months in jail. They had nothing to do with the murder. What they did was horrendous but they had nothing to do with killing her. And don’t waste your time on that new Hulu series “Under The Bridge” but instead read the book “Reena: A Fathers Story”. Poor Reena 😢 I absolutely believe that the punishment did not fit the crime. 😡

Life Without Parole means just that. That's why kids have no consequences these days. There needs to be changes Parents need to be more accountable Getting rid of your child cause you can't handle it should not be a option. Counseling going to find out what's the matter with them . You participating in finding out what the problem is .

Absolute failure in the justice system. None of these scumbags should see the light of day.

So, when I hear that poor innocent unarmed teens have been killed by someone claiming self defense, I never automatically assume that the teens are always innocent. Not in today's world.

Some youth and adults can't be saved because they can't attach or love! Once they reach puberty they often end up in trouble.

And what do these teens have in common? Chaotic families, with perhaps one exception.

Lmao, at first my brain converted Chaotic to Catholic. Outside of my misread, I agree with you. I think that the breakdown of the family unit is the main reason for juvenile crime. And, that a good number of juvenile offenders carry their crimes into adulthood.
