    It may be fake, but they got real skills. Doing all those stuffs without causing injuries to the opponent takes skills and control....

    • @shadowproductions969
      @shadowproductions969 6 ปีที่แล้ว +231

      fake is a poor word for wrestling. They really should use words like "staged" or rehearsed, planned, scripted, etc. The action may be preplanned and the outcomes scripted. Many of the moves are staged but there is definitely real risk involved in many of their moves.. especially top rope stunts and pile drivers.

      This is how poor wrestling is lately - Vince has Jinder Mahal and Amore as main stars. I don't hate them - but come on. I guess they can say their lines the best - therefore they get the spot light. Let the wrestlers be themselves again - and the cream will automatically rise to the top.

      Dylan K I watched the 30 for 30 on Rid Flair and he said if the best thing any wrestler can do is sell the bump and make it look believable.
      Flair knew how much to sell the bump to the point where you thought it was real, case in point the refs calling in an injury even though he wasn't.
      He sold it so well, you couldn't tell one way or the other.
      The other thing he said a wrestler should do really good is to sell the idea that he was scared when he had to be a heel.
      It was a great show with him.
      He was so great at what he did, it's unbelievable.

      during the Monday night wars one of the chief things I realized about WWF was they never did commercial breaks during a fight. WCW was doing that shit twice at least on Nitro, usually on the mid cards. I remember eventually getting so tired of it happening that it bordered on contempt for the wrestlers. I figured it had to do with Vince respecting the talent more or something, but then soon as the WWF had a few weeks of pulling ahead of wcw, they started doing it again.

    I have personal experience with 2 of these...
    Judgment Day 2005 I (and many fans) were waiting in the Lobby between the opening of Doors and opening of the Gates, and for what ever reason there was a Live feed of the Arena Floor, centered on the Ring... at some point Kurt Angle and Booker T (with Sharmell) along with a 4th (the agent obviously, spacing on who it was) came down to the ring and they went through a couple of dry runs on the timing of an Interference spot (a failed attempt at one if i recall)
    Bragging Rights 2010 the Buried Alive match... I had some free/super cheap borderline Nose Bleeds directly above the Dirt Mound for the Burial Spot
    - not only could you tell the sides of the 'Grave' were wood with a dirt-like paint job, but one of the panels (i assume the exit door) was a hair off flush, so you could see light from inside the Room where Taker would eventually retreat to avoid the Dirt... judging by the platform (the Astroturf ) that they had around the Hole I'd say he had a 4Wx6Lx5D Cubicle... no doubt with Chair, Fan, monitor and drinks as unless there was an access panel in the floor, he stayed in there until the last fan had left the arena (and IIRC there were 2 lengthy matches; Wiki says 45 minutes of match time alone after his)

Makes more sense then making him sit in a tiny box for 2 hrs

Austin had never really bladed before and told Bret since he had never done it, he didn't feel comfortable blading at Mania, considering they weren't supposed to and he wasn't sure how to do it well....so...Bret cut him! Austin gave Bret permission to and when Bret throws him into a guard rail, apparently Austin had second thoughts, saying "maybe we shouldn't" but Bret was such a pro, he did it quickly and perfectly.

      I would say that it died in 2002. The very last time I watched a full WWF/WWE showing, was a pay per view around 2004. I was very disappointed. I have tried recently, to watch some of their shows but can't stomach it past a few seconds. I will only somewhat watch certain women's matches, and thats only because I like looking the women.

    My mate, Binston, tried wrestling last year. His gimmick was a baseball bat. When I went to see his first match, I asked him what his bat was for. How was he going to employ it. "Wait and see, but you'll love it, I promise!"
    Later on that evening, Binston is in the ring after an admittedly decent match. His night had been a success. The crowd went wild as Binston fished the bat out from under the ring. He got into the ring, walked up to his opponent, turned to wink at me as if to say "watch this" and then he took an almighty swing with the bat and sent it crashing right into his opponent's skull.
    His poor, unwitting opponent dropped like a heap of shit and didn't move. The crowd's cheering went into shocked silence instantly. You could hear the "pop!" when the bat connected.
    Anyway, it resulted in an opponent who was blinded in one eye, lost 80% of his long-term memory, lost all senses of smell and coordination down his left side, and he lost the ability to speak. Oh, and he caved the side of his skull in. There was an actual bat-shaped dent in his skull.
    To be fair, Binston reckons he didn't hit him as hard as people think he did. His opponent leant into the blow instead of rolling with it, so it was his own fault, really. "Fucking amateurs!" says Binston of his opponent and his trainers. And now he has problems getting any work wrestling. He's too hard for the wrestling scene.
    Binston. What a legend!

    It's sad that everything is scripted. It explains a lot. I bet it feels much better to create a character that is purely you. Who better to act the part that you yourself created? This is why we had such great characters like The Rock and Austin back in the day. They got to do what they felt was good, and it was. It sounds soul crushing to have someone dictate every single word you say.

      By the way, I've known wrazzlin was "fake" since the early 1960's when the Shiek or Larry Chane or Dick the Bruiser would make Crybaby McCarthy cry or Percival Pringle would get mad over his hair getting messed up.
      The Sheikh was Awesome in those days working himself up strutting around the ring looking wild eyed. Pampero Firpo was awesome. Today is more technical and extreme....and scripted. Bull Curry, Haystack, Numb Skull Nuremberg, and of course Bobo Brazil, the good ol dayz.

      Cobo Arena, mid 70's. Bruiser had Indanapolis, Shiek had Detroit. Back when promoters worked with each other for the benefit of all. Bobby Heenan got his start with these guys in this era. Started as a wrestler. Was mentored by Eddie "The Brain" Creechman to take over as Shiek's manager when Eddie retired. The whole "Brain" and "Weasel" shtick came from Eddie.
      Angelo and Lanny Poffo, surprised to not see Randy Poffo (Savage). In Detroit the annoucers Lord Athol Layton, and Chuck Allen. Lord Layton was about 6' 8" , taller than Bobo. He towered over the Shiek when "he had enough, and took matters into his own hands"!!! Fun nights.

    Man, I remember when I was a kid and I was a die-hard wrestling fan. Way back in the days of Jimmy Snuka, Coco Beware, and others. Anyhoo, I swore up and down that wrestling was real. I saw a tv program that "exposed" wrestling secrets. I remember seeing all the stuff I saw on wrestling and seeing how it was really done.
    Man, I was crushed. Kids back then freak out over Santa not being real (or at least the did when I was growing up) and that didn't phase me, but finding out wrestling was fake. I was fucking gutted. I stopped watching wrestling for years after I saw that. Only to come back during the attitude era, but by that time, it's like getting back together with a partner after a very nasty breakup. It just wasn't the same. I enjoyed that era but that was it. I got out of wrestling again after the Attitude Era.
    Now I enjoy the shoots and podcasts from the wrestlers I used to watch to get a behind the scenes look at what went on then. These days, wrestling today isn't for me and that's cool. Took a long time for me to mend those "wounds" lol.

    Something that most people don't understand is that many wrestlers don't actually reherse. Some like Randy Savage, and Hulk Hogan liked to write out entire matches move by move, but most wrestlers improvise the entire match, except for the ending.
    They will use hand signals and body language to call move by move, and some will use rest holds like headlocks to give themselves time to discuss the match.

      @keanuvaughn1508 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been to a couple shows, and occasionally when a wrestler was slammed, the impact would play through the subs. There's no way they don't have mics under there. Either they're placed under certain parts which is why some parts are louder than the others, or they turn up the mics during select falls. That or the ring influences what gets picked up and what doesn't. Either way, there's definitely mics under there.
