- An all day steam hauled trip from El Rancho to Guatemala City in Guatemala. The line is operated by the Railway Development Corporation (RDC), and at the time of the visit, they ran one freight train a day from the Atlantic Coast to Guatemala City.

El pito del tren se oye como un lamento el sonido de los durmientes de la línea ,nunca se meva a olvidar que nostalgia, bonito vídeo los felicito

Me gustaria aser una obserbacion mi primo era maquinista de maquinas de bapor ..y cuando pasaba los puentes ....pitaba y soltaba dos choros de bapor en ambos lados de la maquina erae muy bonito de saludes mis hermanos guatemaltecos

Recuerdo cuando era niño y escuchaba el silbato del tren en Coatepeque, me gustaba subirme a la locomotora o vagones con los demas niños mientras estaba en la estación, nunca tuve la oportunidad de ver el tren a vapor funcionar pero me gustaria que en Guatemala mantuvieran las lines ferreas para promover el turismo de esta forma tambien, aunque ya gran parte de la linea ferrea fue robada para la venta de chatarra....asi es mi Guatemala....

Does Guatemala's railroad still operate today in 2010. I didn't know they had container freight trains. What type of fuel does the steam locomotive burn? oil, coal, or wood?
Coal apparently, but a new elected president promised us to build a newest system of transportation, we hope that he will do what he promised:c
Oil fired. Both the engines that operated under FVG were 1948 Baldwins. They both are now in the museum at Guatemala City and the railway is inoperative with vast stretches having been stolen.

Dwayne appears to be Jorge Diaz, the nearly 80 year old driver who usually ran the locos. An excellent whistler and noticed for his horse head cap.
Dwayne Excuse me, appears to be Diaz in a CSX hat, the fireman, whose real name I cannot remember has the NS hat on.
Still a neat thing to see on the other side of the equator!
Hmmm.... Maybe if I bring several hats from US railroads I can get a discount??? :D

JaiahHazelnutBrown Unfortunately no. The Guat government completely shut down any and all rail transport in the entire country in 2010. Unit 204 and 205 are now in museums in Guat City. However there are plans by American companies to rebuild several lines in the country with standard gauge.
