- Wage slavery song addressing the Marxian concept of surplus value. Composed and performed by André Dormand, lyrics below.
Feel free to ask about my latest CD: Original Hymns. But this song will be on my follow-up.
REPRISING THE REAPPRAISAL (CRIMES OF PRODUCTIVITY)
Corporations are our friends
On their plunder you can depend
Artificial people who have no liability
Lawfully, more powerful than you could ever be.
They're your boss, manager, trainer
Your overseer, bully, slaver.
They'll overwork you with a wage you'll hardly see.
Leaving you fatigued, stressed-out with barely time to breathe.
So what can you say, throw in the towel?
They'll humble you, teach you it's a sin in being proud.
Whistle blows hey, hey.
Time clock the day.
Part-time minimum wage to earn
Opportunity knocks, yet no benefits served.
As the ladder of success burns and takes a downturn.
Why complain?
Your loss, their gain.
Having made rules to deliver,
Exploit you now, as you're in debt forever.
But as long as you buy into them, they're free.
They're no more real than their shares of profitability.
Break the laws, untax the dividends.
If investors are grateful, then rewards'll come in.
And if they make you disabled, they'd say "come and visit us again."
Come what may.
Your work is their play.
