Hi David! Thanks for this video, really good timing. I have been testing the free version as I am thinking of moving my sites from manageWP to MainWP. This is really specific but there's one thing that I have not yet found answer to: restoring backups when the site is down. Even if the site is down you can restore the backup remotely from ManageWP with one click. Unfortunately I have had to use that every now and then. I tested restoring with MainWP and UpDraft Plus and the restore function opens the site admin and you need to do the restore there in the site itself. How does this work when the site is down?
Hi Riitta, Good point. I have not really thought about this. I've never had the situation where I have not been able to get in to my site after renaming the plugin folder via FTP (to deactivate them). I guess one click solutions are something that can only be done via a 3rd party back up services like your hosting backups and maybe BlogVault or whatever the system is in JetPack. With something like Updraft Plus you need the premium version to install a backup easily from out of the plugin. That said its possible to take what it saves and manually transfer.
@@DavidWaumsley yeah, I think you need UpDraft Plus premium in order to achieve this. Will have to study this a bit, otherwise MainWP looks really good.
Hello David, Was wondering if you might be able to point me in the right place to learn how a potential client/employer would deliver/give me(as a developer) access to their already live WordPress site to fix bugs or build out new features locally on my own computer? Would MainWP plugin work to assist in this? Thank you :-)
I'm not really sure what to suggest here. Main WP has a clone extension: mainwp.com/extension/clone/ But I have not used this. I tend to spin out my own copy of clients sites. Recently, I like using this to move site around wordpress.org/plugins/migrate-guru/
@@DavidWaumsley Thank you, David :-) I was looking into setting up a 'staging' site...basically, what you mentioned-to make a clone of it. I'll have a look at the clone extention from Main WP. Take care and be safe :-)

Thanks for commenting. Yes I will do that. There is a new client report extension in beta at the moment I need to fully understand so I maybe a bit slow.
Great timing, I was just setting this up today to test it out. I've been using ManageWP for a while but it's becoming cumbersome to use - sluggish, lots of errors, iffy backups. I'm not a fan of MainWP's UI (quite ugly, even the updated one), and their reports extension leaves a lot to be desired compared to ManageWP's, however the new one looks promising. Overall it seems speedy though, and I like the idea of having control of all of the data. Love a good LTD as well.
Thanks for this comment Stewart. I completely get where you are coming from. I think if I had spent much time with ManageWP moving would be tricky just on the basis of the UI. A friend of mine with 100's of sites struggled with this, but eventually moved to MainWP because of the recent issues with backups and reports. He had someone design his client reports. Even without the new version you could make it look nice if you had the time to do the CSS work. There are a few annoying display issue with version 4. I am going to do my own CSS fixes, but really can live with them. MainWP are a million miles from the like of Manage WP. They seem to be a small fairly stable team that I don't think has a great designer, but these days I prefer these companies that just focus on the one thing and are pretty transparent.
@@DavidWaumsley Yes I think you're right, I can live without a fancy UI if it means I don't have to cross my fingers every time I do something, haha. The 'Custom Dashboard' extensions looks great too, so I could make it look however I want, same with the reports. I keep hearing good things about MainWP in all the communities which is also a good sign. Might be time to switch. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :-)
I've been using MainWP for 3 years. I originally purchased the yearly option for $199 (with a 30% renewal discount). They no longer offer that and my account was coming up for renewal in 5days. Perfect time to get this. I can't recommend this plugin enough. Thanks, David! And I used your AFfiliate link.
Nice work! I'm trying to build a web agency and your tips go very well with my business model, thank you.
Thanks Oscar :-) Best of luck with it.
Hi David, good review. Seems we have similar goals and values. Subbed.
Cheers Mark, I appreciate that :-)
Thanks. I was about to research the best way to manage multiple client sites.
That's great to hear. Thanks for commenting and I wish you luck getting started.

Hi. Can you do a follow on the client Reports that gets emailed. What information do you send?
