Vaders appearance in Rogue One is exactly how you do a cameo in a movie. That last scene not only shows how powerful he is, but how terrifying. It showed us why Vader was feared across the galaxy.
My favorite of the newer Star Wars movies by far.

Like a great many actors who play bad guys, Richard Kiel, who played Jaws, was well known to be a really nice bloke off screen. Roger Moore really liked him, and was pleased he reappeared in 'Moonraker'.
I'm very fond too, of his role in 'Happy Gilmore'.

Jaws is by far one of the best "henchmen" of any movie franchise, not just Bond! Plus by the end of Moonraker, he does something almost no henchmen has ever done. He beats his boss, save and gets his girl, and is rescued off the failing satellite! And you KNOW Bond kept him out of jail after movies end.

I actually liked him too, but they really wasted him. Both in general, but also given the character's backstory as it was in the movie... they never really put in the emotion it needed. Vanko was basically right, his father did get screwed over bad, but there's never any kind of acknowledgement of that.
He's the kind of character who needed to be spared by Tony to give Vanko's backstory closure, even if Vanko immediately lashed out in hatred after and still needed to be put down... rather than just Double Kamehameha'd by Iron Man and War Machine.

Hannibal was always meant to be the the main antagonist. The movie came from a collection of novels following that man's life. Buffalo bill was a chapter in his story, just as Clarice was - albeit a larger chapter. What makes the stories so incredible is that you are rooting for the monster, against your better judgement.

So interviews with Tolkien, a doctor in lingustics, pronouncing a name that he himself invented and told Christopher Lee about, is in your mind boiled down to "both people are wrong" because a non-linguistic computer dude doesn't know how languages work?
Even if the maker of "gif" decided that his "invention" was supposed to be pronounced "jif", it doesn't mean that a doctor in several languages was wrong just because you decided it to be.

While doing the press tour for Moonraker, Richard Kiel stopped by the old late night show that David Letterman was hosting at the time. Letterman asked Kiel what the most unusual thing someone had asked him was. Kiel (who had a gap between his front teeth) leaned over and said "Do you know you have a funny little gap between your front teeth?" with a smile. Letterman (who also had a gap between his front teeth at the time and was VERY self conscious about it - to the point where he would verbally lash out at guests who would dare to bring it up) just sat there flustered, unwilling or unable to lob a zinger back at such a large person.

Saying that Smaug overshadowed the big villain is HILARIOUS! Because Smaug WAS THE BIG VILLAIN! When i first read that Peter Jackson would make more "The Lord of the Rings" movies my expectation was low because in the commentary to the first trilogi he said he would not commit that much time in the making of movies. Had he taken/given the same amount of time as the trilogy then maybe the villain would have turn out better. I do not think any person other than him, although it would have been interesting to see Guillermo del Toros version, could make the best version.

Solo while enjoyable in my opinion was basically a spin off filler stand alone film. Though they tried to make it canocial with the past films and the more recent extended universe. Though unfortunately the big twist in solo that could have been jaw dropping was spoiled before the film was even out.

It comes from the lineage of those abstract medieval naming conventions in the vain of Conception/Concepción (a reference to the immaculate Conception of Mary), Faith/Fé, Misericordia, Trinity/Trinidad, Socorro (Help, to assist), Piedad (Mercy), etc.
It was at some point very common to have girls named like this in Spanish, French, German and English in the late Middle ages.
In some very heavily Roman Catholic places like Latin America it is still common to find women called: "Dolores", "María Dolores", "María del Socorro", "María de la Inmaculada Concepción", "María Concepción", etc.

Hammer was a wannabe joke villain, he didn't upstage or outshine anything, he just provided the funds and resources while the actual villain of that film took advantage of him and did all the work. Without Vanko the only people who needed to worry about Hammer were potential test pilots his shoddy tech would twist in half again.

Would you stop saying it's a plot hole that the Death Star has a weakness? It's not! In fact, having a script where the dad says "I have a Push Here Dummy button for you to destroy it" undoes the meaning of the first Star Wars movie, which is that the Empire suffers from overconfidence and arrogance. And FWIW, if the dad has a message where he straight out admits there's a weakness, why doesn't he SAY what it is in the message which would have in the end saved his daughter's life? Isn't his doing that pretty much forced as a way to engineer the last third of the movie? Indeed: THAT'S a plot hole! I enjoy Rogue One as much as you do, it's a very good film, but man does that bug me.

    10. Justin Hammer was nice, but he really didn't feel like a "villain" really, he was simply trying to get the government contract for his iron suits. 8. Gru was not the villain nor were the Minions there were "villains" in the sense that it was their "day job" not villains in the story 7. Smaug was not a Macguffin, he was the whole reason why the dwarfs got kicked out of their kingdom some time ago, and the damn movie is named after him, he is the main villain whether you want him to be or not. 6. I don't even remember who the "villain" was in that movie, I wouldn't say x-24 stole the show. 4. Thanos didn't outshine anyone in that movie. 1. Considering the focus that was put on Hannibal, I would say he was in fact the story's main villain not Buffalo Bill, if anything Bill was the Macguffin that was the whole reason for keeping Hannibal on the screen in the movie.

The minions aren't villains and while they do upstage Gru he isn't the villain either. Vector was the villain of that film. Smaug is the villain of the Hobbit the Pale Orc is some hollywood idiot writer's attempt at writing next to Tokein. For Harry Potter this may be a hot take, but almost all the villains were more interesting than Voldermort as we was basically an over the top moustache twirling look how evil I am character while all the rest not only got better development but were far more insidious imo. Another possibly hot take for Rogue One yes Vader overshadows Krennic, but that hallway scene is the worst part of the film as it proves that they criminally misunderstood Vader. As shown in A New Hope Vader is a commander who sends his troops to deal with those beneath him which is why he does not emerge until the Stormies have cleared the hall. Continuing this attitude he refuses to let anyone deal with Obi-wan other than him because of the threat posed whether he admitted it or not. Next film when encountering rebels in Cloud city he didn't even draw his saber because a blaster is zero threat to his force mastery and finally it isn't until Luke avoids the trap and manages to kick he of the platform to the lower levels that he even takes that fight seriously. So yes is it a coll looking scene, of course, but it completely misses the point of everything else we are shown about Vader. sorry rant over lol

Did you ever read the hobbit before Peter jackson ruined it? Azog was never in the story, he was killed by Dane Thorin's cousin after he killed Thrane in the Goblin Wars. Buy The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, and The Hobbit from the 70's and earlier before the Peter Jackson Movies came out. Don't get me wrong they are good movies, but people take everything as Cannon, and lots of things happened earlier or with different people involved. Even in The Lord of the Rings, the movie shows Arwen Undómiel saving Frodo from the ring wraiths, In The Fellowship of the Ring, Glorfindel was sent by Elrond of Rivendell in the direction that the Nazgûl were most likely to come from, to help the hobbit Frodo reach Rivendell. He set Frodo on his horse, Asfaloth, and has the hobbit riding ahead to the other side of the Ford of Bruinen, where he defies his pursuers. these are two examples of many many artistic license changes made by Jackson.

Calm your Tolkien boner! The changes to the LOTR movies were minor and mostly necessary (for structural reasons and for movie-makey-money reasons). Putting good ol' Glorfindel (who otherwise has no real part in the Ring War) in the movie would have served nobody but utter Tolkien nerds (and we're not an appreciated people, are we?). Glorfindel has his own epic stories, but giving that one (1) scene to Arwen to flesh out Aragorn's love interest a little bit is absolutely fine by me. Peter Jackson's LOTR movies are amazing and the best adaptation one could hope for.
Also: those Hobbit movies were awful and for me, they just don't exist. And a lot of it comes down to studio interference (like stretching out a tiny book into 3 overly long movies). None of it was Jackson's fault (who was forced to take over for Guillermo delToro on short notice). The only good thing about those movies was that they weren't Rings of Power.

Voldemort is overshadowed a lot because Voldemort sucks. Compared to other villains in other franchises he’s just weak. The emperor in Star Wars for example fools an entire galaxy and takes power just as palpatine. Not even the Jedi worked out who he was (darth sidious) until it was too late. He was smart. Voldemort however is reliant on horcruxes to survive and can’t beat kids partly because he’s stupid enough to take the last horcrux that keeps him alive (the snake) to enemy territory where it could be easily killed and so it was killed. 🤦

Why does there seem to be so much respect for "Rogue One"? It was a mess. The characters were often shown to be prone to stupid actions. There were numerous plot threads that went nowhere. There was little or no character development. I'll agree it had a good third act, but even that depended on spectacle, and the retrofitting of characters. Yes, the scene with Vader was a show stopper. But could it save a really mediocre, poorly plotted and badly thought out script? Apparently, for a lot of people, yes. I will respectfully disagree.
