I think those of us over 40 year old metalheads would have gotten most of the songs after 2004 if you had the songs of Mastodon, Dimmu Borgir, Nightwish, Amon Amarth, Electric Wizard, and the like.

Um. Whoever compiled this list seems to be extremely confused about the difference between metal and hard rock. Detroit Rock City and Girls, Girls, Girls are not, in any way, shape or form, Metal. Some of the stuff selected from the '90s and '00s is kinda borderline, but I'll give you a pass because Grunge and Nu Metal did weird things to meld different styles together. So, two songs each from Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Rammstein and Metallica, but only one each from Megadeth, Motörhead, Sepultura, Pantera and Anthrax. And where were Exodus, Candlemass, Nightwish, Helloween and Blind Guardian? I realise the list has only 50 spaces, so I'm not necessarily expecting to see Crimson Glory, Rage, Metal Church, Meshuggah, Cradle of Filth, Obituary or Powerwolf in there, but you have missed out some of the genre-defining bands.
in fairness, at the time, KISS and Crüe were considered metal. not by today's standards, but it was back then. if Twisted Sister was in there, i would have recognized it. I'm sad to read comments that these song/bands should not be classified as metal - Ignorance in my opinion. Metal started with Black Sabbath in 1969 and has evolved in to many subgenres since then. If You say that any of those does not fall into any of the metal genres - then You are lost. Educate yourself before speaking/writing. I'm born in 1963 and have been a metalhead/hard rocker since early 70s - I had hard to pin both the band and the song, but I managed to nail 17 out of 50 (34%). Mainly the ones from the 70s and early 80's. I did however nail 2 from the 2000s.
