Thanks for including Jim Thorpe. After winning the the decathlon in 1912, King Gustav of Sweden announced to Thorpe, "Sir, you are the greatest athlete in the world!". Thorpe's two word reply:
    Thanks, king.

  • @neill392

You are right about Bright Path (Jim Thorpe), but missed the 2 who belong alongside him on the top step, CB Fry and Babe Didrikson.
Fry played international cricket for nearly 20 years, captaining England for most of those year. In the winter he played football, originally for Corinthian Casuals, but later professionally for Southampton, on the way playing in an FA cup final. When he had a Saturday off, he turned out for Blackheath, one of the top rugby teams of that time. He didn't play often enough to be recognised for an England cap, but represented the legendary Barbarians on several occasions. In his spare time he did a spot of athletics, setting a world long jump record along the way.
One of his team mates for Sussex CCC was an Indian Prince who include him in the Indian delegation at the Versailles treaty negotiations. During which he was invited to become the King of Albania, it is claimed.
Babe entered the US athletics trials for the 1932 Olympics, winning 5 individual events, sadly the USOC would only let her compete in 3. She won gold the sprint hurdles, in a world record time, and the javelin and took a silver in the high jump. The other 2 events were won by people she beat at the US trial. After the games her works athletics team won the US national team championships, she was the sole member of the team.
A few years later she married a professional wrestler and settled into married life. She joined her local golf club and became. in a very short time, the US amateur champion. Realising the chance to earn a living, she was one of the founding members of the USWPGA, winning most of the early championships. Always one for a challenge, she started to enter PGA events. In the days before there were sponsors invites, she had to enter and win the qualifying events, in order to play. She made the cut in the actual events. Many of the males pros hated playing with her, because she could out drive them. Sadly she died far too early, of cancer.

  • @richarddeese1991

Thanks for the video! I think, however, that you left one out. Namely, Mildred Ella "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias. She played baseball, basketball, golf & track & field, winning 2 Gold Medals in track & field. Then she went & won TEN LPGA golf championships. Not bad! But she also competed in sewing (yes, sewing!), even winning a state fair, & sewed most of her own clothes, including her golf outfits. She was All-American in basketball, & was also great at diving, bowling, and even roller-skating! She set 4 world records and tied another at the 1932 Olympics, winning 2 Golds & a Silver. She's considered by many to be the greatest female athlete of all time. Can't leave her off such a list! Rikki Tikki.

  • @stone1andonly

Simon, your researchers need to up their game on Jim Thorpe. The Milwaukee Brewers he played for (briefly) were the old American Association minor league franchise; the present day major league team bears the same name, but is not the same organization. Jim never played for the White Sox, though as a member of the New York Giants he was part of a barnstorming tour which saw the two teams traveling together and playing against one another (a common practice in those days, and part of how baseball spread to Japan and other places internationally.) He was traded after his second stint with the Giants to the Cincinnati Reds, and later he saw some time with the Boston (then Milwaukee, and now Atlanta) Braves. After his stint with the Braves, he continued to play minor league baseball until 1922.
Perhaps his most significant accomplishment (outside of his amazing physical versatility) came in being one of the founders (and first league "president") of the American Professional Football Association. Never heard of it? Not by that name, no, you likely haven't, but its name recognition got better within a year or two when they changed the name to the National Football League. Thus, he was one of the first Native Americans to take a top organizational role in one of America's major sports.
Seriously... whoever researched Thorpe for you dropped the ball, big time.
Addendum - can't believe I nearly got distracted and forgot to mention this - at least one of those male athletes on this list needed to *NOT* be on this list. Why? Because Babe Didrickson Zaharias would likely have embarrassed them in head-on competition. Not only an accomplished Olympian, she competed in golf *against the men* before becoming one of the founding members of the LPGA. How your researchers ignored her is as idiotic an embarrassment as the clusterfuck that was your Thorpe research. You really need better research, man.

I have a question, why aren't super bodybuilders like those in the Mr Universe contest extremely strong as their bodies have muscles everywhere.
Those competitors in the world's strongest man competitions are extremely strong but haven't got nowhere near the same muscle mass as a Mr Universe contestant.
Also super heavyweight lifting competitors in the Olympics are more bulky and less muscly but are extremely strong but again don't have the same body type as a Mr Universe competitor.
So if you're a Mr Universe competitor with all them muscles you're not going to be super strong why is this?

@@rooseveltbrentwood9654 well, if you are intersted only in american sports, then yes, its just sliding on snow. If you think more deeply about this topic, then this video is about nothing, because most of these athletes were active before 1950. In this "age", it was very common that the best athletes were best in many sports. In my country we have a lot of guys that were world champions in ice hockey, profesional footballers or grandslam winners at once, and I could continue... But NFL and MBL are only sports in galaxy, i know

Neon Deion does not belong on this list. You mentioned that he frequently found himself on championship teams. That is because he had an agent who convinced teams of his abilities, although he rarely contributed much at all toward those championships.
The year the Braves won the WS, he touted himself as being the most important part of the team. In truth, his contributions could not be measured, because he barely played during the playoffs or the series.
Many of those interceptions in the NFL can viewed now and one can clearly see he is guilty of pass interference most of the time.
He does well in promoting himself. Arrogance, yes. successful? no.

As great as Jim Brown was a football player I don't think I would place him above Bo Jackson on over at all athletic ability...though both of them had incredible speed I remember an interview with Jim Brown saying that he was only ever caught from behind when breaking away three times in his entire career that is amazing course the question is was Bo Jackson ever caught?...

Ward really didn't belong on here, nor did Robinson or Brown. There are plenty more atheletes who shown brighter at the professional level (I'll make an exception forBo Jackson not being a star, because his career was shortened by injury and he was a star for those few years).

keep in mind playing Baseball and Football have scheduling advantages, not much overlap until your team gets into the MLB playoffs.

Much easier to schedule for sure, but football can be brutal on the body leading career ending injuries.
