That area brings back so many memories for me. It's interesting to see how it's changed, yet remained the same.
A lot of films were shot in those areas. Off the top of my head he passed filming locations for Pee Wee's Big Adventure, The Brady Bunch Movie, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, National Lampoon's Vacation, Forrest Gump, Three's Company, Speed and many, many more films and tv shows. He also passed where the Soul Kitchen restaurant used to be that Jim Morrison wrote a song about, the place where Arnold Schwarzenegger's old restaurant was, and Norm MacDonald's old apartment.
So much pop culture history and of course my own personal history that seems like it happened yesterday, yet happened a long time ago. I'm getting older and this trip down memory lane reminds me that my time on this planet is short.

It's nice to see Santa Monica lively at night, especially at the Santa Monica Pier! It's nice to see the areas you've walked through, because I haven't explored much in Santa Monica. Thank you, AK!! 😎

When my parents moved to California From New York in the 60's they moved to Santa Monica

    • @Nonduality

I lived there in the 60s too. It was like a small town. Third Street was a regular street. People got around downtown Santa Monica in electric golf carts. Landlords had to give a free month's rent to get people to move to Santa Monica.

I would rank Santa Monica #4 busier nightlife spot in L.A. area. Currently #1 West Hollywood, #2 Downtown LA, #3 Hollywood, #4 Santa Monica. In a few years, Downtown will topple West Hollywood. Cool video

I don't understand, why are countries like New Zealand and parts of Canada and Australia Locking down, when states or other countries with far more Delta variant are remaining open or opening up more. I don't know what to believe in anymore.

It could be that countries with universal healthcare want to avoid the great expense of caring for many sick people, so they are likely to impose more restrictions. Countries with private healthcare or poor public healthcare might be more likely to allow free movement throughout society. I'm sure there are other factors as well.

I stayed at the Shangri La 18:20 back in 2005, wasn't so fancy then but loved it there. The rooms are little apartments and great views from the roof. I see it has been refurbished so I guess it would cost a lot more today! Thanks for a great vlog, brings back nice memories of LA and Santa Monica.

He's back in New York, but AK always has tons of videos to keep uploading.🙂Videos that he does not have time to process and upload while he is in that particular place because he continues to walk, film, upload and go live in the meantime, and obviously find time for himself and to rest.😉

Great walk...it opened my eyes to Santa Monica as a nighttime destination for fun, food and drink. I haven't hung out at the Santa Monica Pier at night since the late 90's and it was a tough looking crowd, so I haven't been too excited about going back. Your video showed me that's it's a safe place again to go and enjoy again!! If it makes you feel any better: I thought that Santa Monica Police mobile command post was a food truck too ;)

Originally made by Jonathan Borofsky in 1988, the sculpture, consisting of the red nosed head of a hobo clown and the body of a tutu and ballet shoeballerina, is attached to the side of the building. It's right leg is rigged with an electric motor that would allow the clown ballerina to slowly kick, but it's only occasionally turned on since it's apparently noisy, causing the residents to complain. I've heard that it might kick from one to six pm every day.

That neighborhood is Ocean Park, not Ocean Beach. I lived and went to school there in the 60s when it was still a quaint little neighborhood. None of those big fancy hotels were there. The beach was a short walk from our house and it was clean. It was a great place to live.

The most lovely rest time to me would've been if I drove around a bicycle or went walking like you. Many people loose their time on lines waiting for tables at restaurants. And it is noisy be sitting over there. I liked when you were walking around Las Vegas at night and people were greeting you. But nobody greets each other in Santa Monica. Everyone are just waiting ones queue. Though that photographer might have said some information shooting everyone at night, those girls and boys and whatnot.

I visited Santa Monica back in August 2015 and The Promenade was so bright and lively. Maybe it's the weather conditions on the day you filmed this but it looks like a cold winter day and dreary....the pandemic has really taken its toll. Hopefully in 2022 things are more back to normal

The Promenade really took a hit after covid. There used to be one or two stores vacant but seeing all of these empty retail stores and the lack of foot traffic makes me feel like it's going to be a while before it recovers.... if it ever does
