    Watching Cyn figure stuff out is so much fun.

  • @richardkhchang

    There's a subtle moment during the ice cream scene that I thought was a really nice touch. James picks up the pizza box and says something like "well, it looks like you've got your appetite back" and then Eddie's face suddenly shifts and becomes serious, as if that really hurt him in a "Oh, you're one of them too" way.
    Also, be sure to watch all the endings when you're done. It's all pretty essential to having a complete picture of the story.

      I watched them with a friend on her stream, WhimsyPsyche! I was in awe at the "in the water" ending because then the trunk theory got explained to me and my mind was blown.

      @@Cynthetic Oh, nice. I saw WhimsyPsyche's FFVII Remake/Rebirth playthrough and her perceptiveness kind of blew me away-- picked up on nearly every bread-crumb and speculated more things (that even some OG players don't consider) than I thought possible with only Remake context alone.
      This might be a stretch, but any chance you'll add a final thoughts blurb after having seen the other endings, not just the one you got?

      I LOVED the concept of Pyramid Head. It's wild because the prison sequence basically slaps you in the face with PH's identity, consistently placing him as the judge and executioner.

  • @GamePaddyPat
    @GamePaddyPat หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Yes! The most horrific thing in the game was that you couldn't align the boat with the lighthouse... How dare they?
    The first Silent Hill is different, but it will give you somewhat of answers about Silent Hill.
    As much as I would've liked to be part of the people who played the game when it came out, I also think it's better that I watched a playthrough later, when I could truly appreciate the complex and deep story. It's so good!
    Great episode, Cyn! Need to watch the next one right away!

      Why is the boat so janky! lol The story is beautifully complex, and extremely human, which is what makes it so draining at times. I loved every second of it.

    100 for the Eddie speech. Your the only one I've heard say that. And me a veteran of the OG since 2005, I never realized until the remake came out, That I treated Eddie the same way he said.

    1:11:58 Why the town is deserted depends on which media you refer to. The movies (noncanon) say the town was abandoned due to an underground coal fire. The comics never really say, just that it's a ghost town that people generally don't come back from. I think the 1st game mentions something about all the younger people moved away (implying all that was left was the cult that caused Silent Hill to become a rift in reality) and it became a "tourist town" with a heavily transient population.

    You saying Laura grows on you in that beautiful scene, my og playthrough all those years ago, in the scene James and Laura are tired from their journeys and they both let their guards down. The og ost and remakes redoing of the ost is just perfect for their conversation and they both warm to eachother, it's such a beautiful scene. Me as a player that has been emotionally drained by the experience to that point ( in a good way cause that's one of the games aims) also let my guard down and warmed up to her aswell.

    • @Cynthetic
      @Cynthetic  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This game was very emotionally exhausting. I think I was always going to be protective of Laura, because I'm an aunt to girls, but that aunt-status also is what made me quick to call her out lol

    It's interesting how James's version of SH is mingling with both Eddie's and Angela's. Like I've been saying, James's is all dampness and decay, while Eddie's seems to involve cold and ice.

    I died a few times during the Eddie fight on hard mode because I suck at aiming with a controller. When he finally died I had the sudden impulse to scream at my TV for him to stay dead and called him a piece of sh*t.
    I bullied and killed him. 🤧
    But in all seriousness, they did a great job at dehumanizing him during that fight, it's as if they planned to make you feel that way with the writing.

    57:07 Okay, so this is kinda spoilers (and a trigger for S.A. and violence) that I'm only mentioning because Cyn missed the newspaper clipping concerning Angela. Firstly, I must reiterate that she is 10000% a victim of domestic violence and S.A. from both her father and brother (at least the brother was in on it in the original). The paper, however, claims she offed both of them for no reason and is wanted for their murders.

    49:55 Pretty much. Love seeing these "Eureka!" moments when people new to the franchise put it together. In the original Pyramid Head was a representation of his self hate and need to punish himself. (which is why I REALLY dislike that they used it in the movies and had it do a cameo in SH: Homecoming.)

    At first I was against them starting with the remake of the second one, because of Konami's history, I imagined it would just be to make some easy money with the most famous title, but now I see that it was the right decision.
    Even though the first one is my favorite of the franchise, I don't know if it would engage so many people in learning more about the other games and the history of the city.

  • @huangss00
    @huangss00 หลายเดือนก่อน

    1:07:02 I don't think Laura is real. From the Abstract Daddy fight, you saw that James can in fact see and interact with what the Angela sees. And from Eddie, you can see his cold breath, the pizzas he's eating, and the dead bodies of the people he killed even though none of it should exist in a long abandoned place. Toward the end of the game (no spoilers), you will see Angela again and there's a line specifically about seeing what the other sees. And there is another interaction with Laura later in the game that support the theory she's not real.

    • @huangss00
      @huangss00 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1:22:12 Ok, since you got to the Laura part, she mentions nurse Rachel. If Laura were real, the nurse would also have to be real to be her caretaker, (meaning you should also be able to see Rachel). This is not the case. 1:23:55 Laura says, "I turned 8 last week". However, Silent Hill looks like it's been abandoned a lot longer than 8 years. A child her age can't possibly have lived there when it's been abandoned before she was born. Hence, I don't think she's real.

    Pyramid head not a pursuer but a controler :o

    • @Cynthetic
      @Cynthetic  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      See I completely missed the dog bit till everyone pointed it out and that's something I can't forgive. Psychology I know people like Eddie take those frustrations out on things weaker than them, but I stopped feeling as sorry for him once I learned that. Angela is truly the only person who doesn't deserve to be there, but I think that's also the point. This story does not take into account how the player judges the characters, but looks at how the characters judge themselves- narratively it's beautiful

    Eddie kept killing his bully that he saw here in silent hill, but he never killed anyone other than the dog. He shot him in the leg then came here. I agree he was a victim, but when you graduate to not caring about killing anyone suddenly, you stop being one.

    • @Cynthetic
      @Cynthetic  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I honestly didn't catch the dog thing until the comments. That's when I lost all sympathy for him. People in Eddie's position will often target the weak, like animals, to make themselves feel better. That is a point of no return to me. To hurt an animal truly symbolizes the lack of ability to feel sympathy/empathy to me.
