Gopher Tortoise Release

Three threatened gopher tortoises were released on October 18th, 2018 onto the Fort Basinger Long-term Gopher Tortoise Recipient Site. These were the first three tortoises to ever be released onto the South Florida Water Management District’s newly permitted recipient site. In this video, District biologists explain how the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission permitted tortoises that are relocated to the property are examined prior to being released onto the property.
