- This video is about the history of the burning of Darien Georgia on June 11, 1863, one of the most controversial actions during the American Civil War went to regiments the 54th Massachusetts volunteer infantry under the command of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw as well as the second South Carolina infantry under the command of colonel James Montgomery burned a deserted southern town. The both of the regiments were comprised of African-American troops they were under the command of white leader ship which ordered them to burn the southern town.
