I bought the M4 base MacBook with 32 gb ram. I wanted more ram, and didn’t really think about the performance cores since I did not knew that much about performance and efficiency cores. But it’s a really solid solution for me. I can run many plug ins and sometimes I just take a track I’ve made with 20 tracks and duplicate it x50 times just to see if it can hold up. I think the base MacBook is a killer as well
I really like to see, how Bitwig Studio would perform on your machine. It also should use the efficiency cores. A test should be doable with its demo version.
Gr8 info Bjørnar. It allows people to see what progress has been made and what benefits it brings to them. Really interesting about the differences in approaches in DAW's like CUBASE. M4 Studio will be a killer machine, the prices on the used Studio's are low at present. It could replace you PC, yet sadly the gaming situation is not a best fit for your needs. At least we have the new GPU news arriving in Jan at CES too.
M4 processor seems much better suited for Audio compared to M3 proccesor, at least regarding M3 Pro. I bought a M3 Max last year, because i felt that the "Pro" wasn´t that much of a "Pro". So i went with the (binned) Max version and it´s great, but i feel that the M4 chips are a big jump compared to the M3 (especially single core performance is much higher) and this shows in your test as well: The M4 can play much more tracks, compared to the M3 Max. Thanks for your testing!
After battling with iLok issues on my AMD 9900X, I decided to grab the cheapest Mac mini I could find and hooked up my 4TB M2 drive from the PC in an external enclosure. Now that all the iLok drama is behind me, I’m finding it tough to go back to Windows. So for now, this little Mac mini has taken over my desk, and I might just repurpose the PC for some NAS or VM fun. Who needs a giant tower when you’ve got a tiny box that does the job?
very informative, thks ! I'm gonna upgrade my intel MBP 2016 by the M4 pro mini / 24go / 1TO. (logic user with no cinematic & or orchestral banks). I wonder if it's useful for my needs to have 48go instead of 24go ?
Going to test real projects soon, and see how the memory load is. Or you should take a look at the videos where I test the 16GB M3 MacBook Air or the 8GB M1 MacBook Air. That might give you some pointers. :)
Just wanted to say I highly appreciate your content - right on point, without BS and bedtime stories :)
Keep up the good work 🙏🏻
Thanks! I try to fluff to a minimum, sometimes it gets in there though. :D
Excellent comparison! Thanks!

Nice and thank you for sharing. I also believe t he base MacBook is suitable for a lot of people. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Last time I tested it it only used performance cores.

For sure, I have more videos planned where I show the same project I did on the M3 Air. And also a long form test. :)
@@bjornark Now all we need is for Moog to step up their game!
Actually, its working better now. I have an update planned
@@bjornark Yayyyyy!!!!!!! :)

The M3 MAX is not bad. But I am surprised how much better the M4 Pro is.
thank you for this video!
You are welcome, thanks for watching!

Great video! I wonder how the M4 series would compare to the new PC series of processors - especially the AMD 9000 chips that just came out.
Thanks, yeah that would be interesting to check out.
I am planning to buy a MBP with M4pro. It seems the best mobile solution for audio. Still evaluating RAM, sadly I need 2 tera SSD...
Good choice, 2TB will be costly yes... unless you build your own external SSD. Maybe too much of a hassle?
LUSH CHORD SUBSTITUTES!!!!
What would you recommend for pc specs for mixing and mastering?
I would go for an AMD system.
