Lyrics:
Ain't no more cane on the Brazos
Oh, oh, oh, oh
It's all been ground down to molasses
Oh, oh oh, oh
You shoulda been on the river in nineteen and ten
Oh, oh, oh, oh
They were driving the women just like they drove the men
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Go down old Hannah, don'cha rise no more
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Don't you rise up 'til the judgment day's for sure
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Ain't no more cane on the Brazos
Oh, oh, oh, oh
It's all been ground down to molasses
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Captain, don't you do me like you done poor old Shine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Well ya drove that bully 'til he went stone blind
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Wake up on a lifetime, hold up your own head
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Well you may get a pardon and then you might drop dead
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Ain't no more cane on the Brazos
Oh, oh, oh, oh
It's all been ground down to molasses
Oh, oh, oh, oh

"Ain't No More Cane" is absolutely one of the Band's finest moments. Singing like a whole damn carnival.
Danko’s voice just pierces me to the core!
A verse each from Levon, Robbie, Rick and Richard, in that order, then Garth's accordion takes us home.
It really doesn't get any better than this.
Wow! I didn’t no Robbie could sing that well.
Any idea who it is then? I’ve always been curious
It is Robbie.
I thought the 2nd verse was Dylan.
@@z1205 Dylan's not on this track. It was actually recorded for Music From Pink as a standby track, in case they didn't have enough originals.
All great songs on this album. This is a personal favorite.
RIP Robbie Robertson
Bob Dylan spammed my feed- ECSTASY!! My day is made...
The BAND!!👍
RIP Norm
Bought this album at a flea market in Paris at 14 years old. Brought it home and was both puzzled and blown away at the same time. Like a chameleon, just when you think you understand Dylan, the sands shift and the Joker laughs
For all of us who must toil relentlessly to earn the right to sit at the table of humanity, this anthem is FOR YOU 😪
I hear Levon all over this..Miss ya bubba...Still want my D41??
"They were driving the Wymmyn just like they drove The Men"
Almost time to break open the Last Waltz
He's the only guy I'd let spam my feed. Er hold on... 🤔
The best song from the best band… Danko makes me weap
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ain't No More Abel either
:)
Is this song originally about the great depression?
No, it’s about convict leasing.
I rather have corn on the Brazos
**Well, you know -- Bourbon **_must be_** 51% corn... "You shoulda been on the river in-a nineteen & ten."*
What other band songs did Robbie sing on?
To kingdom come ,Bessie Smith and Out of the blue.
@@thomas-wj9kt Out of the Blue is, out of those songs, the one where he vocally shines the most I think
Also a twilight demo/early version that’s readily available
He also sings "Knockin' Lost John" from the "Islands" album and "The Last Waltz Refrain" with Richard (who also does the harmony vocal on "Bessie Smith").
And Kingdom Come, as well. @@LarryGonzalez00
Wonderful track, but Dylan is not on it AFAIK
Clogging up my subscription feed with over 120 downloads. Completely unnecessary. Unsubscribed because of someone decided to be a jerk.
Go cry about it. Oh wait you did
I hear you. If my feed is gonna be spammed by anyone, I’m glad it’s Dylan at least!
Cry about it
C'mon son. It's Dylan. 😃
