    • @johnsmits2494
      @johnsmits2494 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s an amazing amp, I think a 1*12’ version has come out(EVH). These are not one trick ponies, there is much variation although the clean channel may not be suited for jazz( as many high gain amps aren’t). Like the Fender Pro Junior is a excellent tube amp among other Fenders, but you’ll need pedals for variation. The 5150 has so many “organic” tones that overdrives and distortions are almost unnecessary. But the 2*12 is like $1500, I think. But keep in mind, these amps have excellent resale value, some used sell for only 5% or 10% less than retail. And usually that’s only because of somewhat tired tubes(power mainly).

    I bought a Marshall Dsl20cr and it's by far the best amp I've ever owned. I just couldn't do solid states anymore despite the cheaper and massively hyped Katana. I'm hooked on that classic Marshall tone and there's no going back. If anything it's a little loud for late night practice in an apartment but that's the only possible negative I can think of. Fantastic amp.

  • @RodVonLongrod
    @RodVonLongrod ปีที่แล้ว

    @12:52 I just acquired a 112 version of this amp. At 65 lbs. for the 112, & 84 lbs. for the 212 it's wise to install the included wheels. The three channels can cover any scenario you may find yourself in, and the amount of gain on tap means you'll never need to use an OD or distortion pedal. The Clean channel is really nice and may have benefitted with the relationship with Fender. It can get pretty rude with the gain turned up. The Blue Channel is the Crunch channel and covers my needs for what I need to do. The Red Channel is high gain heaven if you're into that. The Reverb is nice but just barely turned on is enough as there is a crazy amount of reverb available. Overall, this amp is worth the price of admission. If you like the 6L6 sound and feel then this amp is worth a test drive. Highly recommended.

  • @joeykelly5642

    Interesting that the Sonzera 20 made it onto the list. I remember when I tried one - I thought the gain channel was broken or something... The clean channel is solid, but it doesn’t seem like a very good deal compared to Fender amps on the market.

    Great reviews Shane but too many are of equipment to be used on the road .
    You recommend the Peavey Bandit but even on a very low setting its too loud , and pedals dont work to bring it down for use at home. Good videos but they are for the fairly regular gigging musician. Great information but so many different pieces of equipment, anyway good luck. Ps. I have the Blues Deluxe with the original speaker, I need to change that I know but I attenuated it with a an EB volume pedal and honestly its overpowering, it actually sounds shite.
    I think i saw a video from you on gathering gear from a few years back, and the better option to seek out good stuff and dont become a collector of gear , in summary settle on whats right for you and get on with it but you ard always using new/ different gear, why so.
    Anyway
    Do the best you can, with what you have, where you are!! And £uck the begrudgers.

I took a chance & swapped it out for a Roland Blues Cube Stage. I added the Super Clean tone capsule to the Roland. Wow! My pedal board sounds & reacts so well with this amp/capsule combo. Fuzzes, OD’s, chorus, delays, it all sounds wonderful. Most of the amps you mentioned in your video, I’ve not played. But, I wanted to give a nod to the Roland.

    Seriously using the top handle alone you couldn't even lift up the EVH5150III? Dude it's 84 lbs! I'm 71 and permanently disabled now but back in 1999 and 2000 I was able to load and remove and set up my two Marshall 1960A and 1960B Full stack cabs at 80 lbs each. I'm talking at age 50 and also injured as in a crushed pelvis and two dislocated hips and I was able to carry them up and down flights of stairs all on my own, and then to hoist the 1960A on top of the 1960B and then to hoist the Marshall JCM 900MKII head on top of the full stack. To say that their larger size made the 1960's more difficult to handle than a 212 tube combo amp would be an understatement. Shane you must be a pretty weak guy.
    You must make Justin Johnson (a TH-cam guitar player) seem like a body builder in comparison to you (he's so puny that I have to refrain myself from pointing it out. I mean he's skinny and limp wristed. Congratulation Shane! You take the cake!
    Ha ha and I'm also an artist, a painter and we are not known for our huge hulking muscular bodies either. -Peter age 71
    Just this week I purchased a marshall full stack of Origin 412A and 412B speaker cabs and hoisted the B cab and a marshall 100 wat head on top of the A cab and the origin cabs are 68 lbs each. I'm 71 and physically permanently disabled.

      Hmmm...maybe because I have been doing stretching yoga since 1971 is why I am able to lift these cab's. I do the yoga because with my injuries two surgeons have told be that I shall never walk again. I could not abide that and took to doing yoga, in 1970 where I stretching all my muscles every day. In fact I still do my yoga every day 50 years later, did my yoga today. Because I want to be able to walk! -Peter age 71

    I really liked the sound of the'65 Deluxe Reverb in the mix. I know it's a bit of a "go too" for recording Artists and small/medium venues and so maybe heard too much... but what can you say: it's simply classic!

    Sweetwater shows the weight of the EVH at 84 lbs. I have an old fender super twin reverb my bathroom scale showed 94 lbs I made it into just a head, little easier to tote around.

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's surprising as I thought the EVH would be worse than a twin. I think it's larger cabinet size also makes it far harder to move around (without wheels)

      @johnwriterpoet1783 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations ! Could you help me? I have this amp, But not blond. I have to turn the treble on the amp up to about 9 just to get enough treble. Any thoughts? Similarities to yours? Thank you.

    • @astewart9410
      @astewart9410 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnwriterpoet1783 That's a really good question. I leave my treble around 5 and have no troubles. One thing that comes to mind is the firmware update. Among other things, that update removes the bright cap (a common mod on DR tube amps), which makes the mids more prominent. The blonde has that update built-in, and I've never tried an original Tone Master DR, so I never noticed. I'd say try the update, because it also gives you finer reverb control at lower settings too. Good luck!

    • @astewart9410

      @@johnwriterpoet1783 Just thinking more on this, if the treble at 9 isn't enough treble (!) then the firmware might not help... maybe roll the tone up on your guitar? Or it may not be the right amp for your ear overall. I hope you find a solution.

    • @JohnsDough1918
      @JohnsDough1918 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm wondering if the cab and the internals are equivalent in sound quality to the Blues Cube. It's maybe the Alnico Blue-inspired speaker doesn't fit with my tastes, but I was expecting the Special to be less thin and flat-sounding, something that turned me off the older Nextones.
      I'm starting to be weary of the brand too, with the switching power amp starting to fail on my Blues Cube (seems to be the case for many people; Roland is charging to ship to them and fix what is manifestly a recurring issue, as they won't even let any of their authorised dealers take care of it).

    Lol, that’s funny... I was wondering if an Orange would make the list ;-) the Jim Root / Hinds are both really great. Agree on the DSL20! Sold my 40 and think the 20 even sounds better. You can dime the masters - boom. I recently picked up a Mesa Rectoverb combo that I’m enjoying quite a bit, more than the Mark V because it’s more versatile and just easy compared to the V. Try one if you get the chance, they’re different in a very good way. Peace

    8:32 "After playing this amp with its crappy Celestion Seventy 80 speaker" Love that comment, coming from you I don't mind it knowing you. I just hope no one dismisses gear, like that particular speaker, out of hand because it is not a recreation of some " magical unicorn of the 1960's" that never existed and has a huge price tag. Bottom line, I love Shane's content because he ignores brands and price tags and lets his ears and personal taste decide if it sounds good. That particular speaker was designed for cabinet emulator amps like , it's rated at 80 watts for 8 and 16 OHM use. You could use that in about anything, most 4x12 cabinets run 35 watt speakers for a combined power rating of 140 watts. I hope Shane does some videos experimenting with swapping budget priced speakers in budget priced amps.
