My understanding is that if you take your stance and there is water visible around your shoes then you get relief from casual water (we have a lot of this in the Uk😂), sounds like the official gave you an unfair ruling, but still, three solid rounds of golf and a third place finish is excellent, well done and thanks for sharing your journey with us Gabby
Not after you take a stance. The water has to be visible at the surface without any pressing of any king on the ground with the feet, hands, club head, or otherwise.
@@erichansen3641 No that's not right. Temporary Water is defined as water that is not in a penalty area, and "can be seen before OR after the player takes a stance (without pressing down excessively with their feet)". Under Rule 16.1, free drop within 1 club length of the nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole. But it's NOT TW if it's just wet or muddy but the water cannot be seen.
Hey Gabby, it is your Las Vegas golf pro and big fan Tommy Sunshine. I played in many PGA Tour qualifiers, US Open qualifiers, and many USGA tournaments. There was always one specific thing about the Casual water rule. The rule was that if you stepped in and placed your weight normally to take your stance and water was seen up from the ground around your shoes you we're in casual water. Here is the part of the rule that got abused and they are careful not to allow it. You are not allowed to go into your stance and then place all your weight on one foot or push down into the ground by moving your body weight up and down trying to get water to come up. You literally have to take your stance and just stand there normally. If water was visible after you did that then you got relief from the casual water. I am sure, unfortunately, that the official you dealt with was not able to field questions about his ruling without taking it personally as an attack. I would at your next tournament ask if it's possible to get another official to be called to the scene if you disagree with a rules judgment. But here's the caveat to that action. If you are the only one involved in the ruling, unlike today, it means literally that you're going to stall your group for a long period of time while you and they wait for Another rules official to get there. You have to be mentally tough enough that you can't let that bother you! If you know you're right or have a good suspicion you are right, Don't cave in to pressure or talk from them and stand your ground. You're not out there at the tournament to make BFFs! You're there to play your best golf and show that you are a quality player and person. Every experience you encounter will help shape you as a person. Embrace hard moments... Luv your content always. When you have time,(U have no time,I get it) please look up a 16 year old like you named Lexi Booras. You liked my evaluation of your swing when you asked to be critiqued last time. Your position on relief is correct and the official was totally wrong. Ego was a factor! Way to keep your composure and respect. Continue to play well!
No doubt! Ego, a little stage, a small place to exert control or power. 10k views in a hour 😂😂😂😂…youtube presents a new day for golf. One fussy official making these types of decisions without being reviewed causes irreparable damage to an organization quickly…on a national/worldwide level.
Using left hand low I went 11 putts on front nine. My best 9 holes of putting in 13 years of playing. I wish I had started playing much younger. Enjoy as time goes by way too fast. Love your enthusiasm for the game. Be the person that people want to emulate.
Casual water for sure. Good for you just being a better person there. Great tournament nonetheless. Good job with the grind, can’t wait for the next one! 🙏❤️
I'm pretty sure that you are allowed to call for an alternate referee if you disagree with the decision. If that isn't possible, you can play two balls, one following the rules officials guidance and the the using your own interpretation. When you get back to the clubhouse, get the tournament director / senior rules official to decide on the offical final ruling before you sign your card.
Your blessed to have such a supportive family all the best for the future 🏴… p.s you don’t have to see the water 💦 as long as it’s present then that’s casual water and allowed relief 😊
Gabby, Enjoy watching your content. You have a great attitude, and it will certainly help you navigate through life easier than many without the positivity. you have a whole world in front of you. Good Luck to you always!!
Outstanding Performance Gabby ❤T3 is amazing. Make a few mental notes for your future growth to the top of the leaderboard . -you now ,know that you are entitled to relief from the casual water. -you now ,know that you are entitled to a second opinion from a rules official when faced with a ruling that you don’t believe is accurate. -manage your food and beverage intake appropriately so you can manage your bathroom breaks. -don’t assume the result of a short putt, stick to your process and look at both sides of the 3’ putt and stick with your process, the result of it going in will look after itself…..as long as you stick to your process and routine. You verbalized to us that you couldn’t believe how much that 3’ putt broke , so the problem wasn’t your putt , it was a flaw in your process of sizing it up. These little mental notes are part of learning and growing and will help you get those fine details ironed out that will definitely help you climb to the top of the leaderboards in the future. You are competing at an elite level and doing outstanding! I Love watching your progress and success. Keep up the great work ,we are all cheering for you and proud of you ❤
Best putting tip I've ever had and I always let people in on the secret if I see them missing putts under 5 feet. With right hand low and your index finger running down the back of the shaft but slightly bent, on the transition, E.G. at the top of the backswing increase the pressure on the tip of your finger as you putt through the ball, point your finger into the bottom of the hole. The results are miraculous You will hardly ever miss a short putt from under 6 feet.
Well done Gabby, my last reply was Gabby knows putting. You try until you succeed. With either hand low you are a terror at putting. 👍👍👍 The water thing, it was a test, next time you will be better informed. As always😂😂
Love your videos. You are an amazing golfer. Just an observation i've made watching your videos... The days that you struggle with putting are the days that you are wearing your glasses. The prismatic effect may be causing the slight misalignment of the putts. Contact lenses would eliminate that. Keep up the great content!
Gabby, I understand that you are worried about going back to right hand high and left hand low (or vice versa) putter grip and that you are concerned about one hand taking over because your stroke is handsy using small muscles of the hand instead of larger muscles of the shoulders. Have you tried an Arm Lock putter? or a regular putter with an extension and an Arm Lock grip installed? The only difference really is the addition of loft to the putter face. I stroke my longer putts right handed using a cross-hand grip like you have used in the recent past, but my shorter putts under 8 to 10 feet I use the Arm Lock putting technique or something similar putting with a left handed putter. What you do is brace the grip against the lead inner right forearm by pushing with the trailing hand (lower than the right) to keep the putter braced/locked against that lead right forearm. This will use the larger muscles of your shoulders instead of being handsy. Great for short putts under pressure. Check into at least. I find doing it left handed with a lefty putter feels much better than putting this way right handed. Your experience may differ. -- Eric
Oh, as an alternative to putting left handed using Arm Lock against the right forearm, I discovered that some pros use that same grip for right handed putts with a right handed putter. Matt Kuchar to name one. So for both right and left handed putts/putters, you can try bracing the putter grip against the right forearm in both cases. Bracing against the right forearm for right handed putts with a right handed putter should put loft on the putter face naturally without any physical modification to the putter face loft by a golf club technician.
Hi Gabby, I putt right hand low but I run my left forefinger vertically down my cupped right hand up against the second knuckle. That helps stabilize it. I also keep my left middle finger overlapped in the pinky-ring groove around the back of the right hand. This grip feels super comfortable to me. You can also flare out your left elbow a tad to prevent flipping. Less comfortable.
I tried your putting grip with the right hand up and that felt very strange! You’re a great golfer, can’t wait to see you at the next level!! Hit that hole in one so I can win the money!!
When I committed to a conventional grip opposed to left hand low, it MASSIVELY improved my putting and has made me a lot more consistent on longer putts.
Hi Gabby. It's my understanding that if there is a disagreement on something like this, you can play a second ball taking relief and then have the rules committee determine the correct interpretation. Sounds like this official was not following proper protocol. While he is a rules official, even they get things wrong and they should always be conservative and allow a second opinion. You showed real maturity in just moving on and addressing it after the round. Great tournament! Keep it up!
Gabby, I'm always rooting for you! So disappointing that a rules official could be so unprofessional and egotistical. You should be proud of yourself for your respecting this official even though you didn't agree with him. You're very mature beyond your age. You'll be ready for your next tournament, I'm sure!!!
Gabby - I shoot in the 70’s so maybe I’m not in a place to give advice but drinking energy drinks to me seems like a bad idea. Gets your nervous system all jittery All the best. Enjoy watching your videos
Your game is Solid but what I love is the fact that you stayed true to your self you my have shown the respect to the official, but in my a pinon you showed greater respect to your self, and I liked it when you just walk away and went to your car, shows maturity, you cant change it, many would have had a hiss fit and spat the dummy
What is the definition of casual water in USGA? By definition, “casual water” is any temporary accumulation of water on the course that is not in a water hazard and is visible before or after the player takes his stance. You may play your ball as it lies or take free relief.
Another informative video showing behind the scenes at a tournament. Bad luck on the ruling by an official who didn't know the rules. But still a great showing at this tournament. keep up the great golf and videos Gabby.
I can't stop commenting! LOL next time you're trying to go through a large body of standing water looking for a ball grab a rake from the nearest bunker! Huge huge advantage using that as it will pull your ball out and you can do it very quickly..
If it is casual water which means that spot is usually dry and your standing position is in water that is normally not there, you should be able to get a free drop no more than a club length away from the hazard. Thats my understanding anyway. But well done Gabby, three very decent rounds. Your attitude young lady is great and the fact you were able to move on and overcome the drama says a lot about how stable and how good a golfer you are. Awesome stuff Gabby. Keep loving it and keep the hard work up. Such a good result that could have been better if it wasn't for a wrong decision by a rude and arrogant official. ❤
Free relief is granted if the casual water is affecting your stance. Your ball may be in a perfectly dry spot, but if you take your stance and water begins seeping out of the fairway, you are technically standing in casual water and allowed to take relief at the nearest point of complete relief.
There are a few issues going on. A ball is only in temporary water if water is visible before or after the stance is taken. “It is not enough for the ground to be merely wet, muddy or soft or for the water to be MOMENTARILY VISIBLE as the player steps on the ground.” The other issue would be, if you were not CERTAIN it was in the penalty area or in the temporary water, you have to treat it as a lost ball.
It was definitely casual water The whole definition of casual water --is if it is visible That's all we have to go on in that situation --it's not like we have a sponge on us to prove it!! You were right --they were wrong But the lesson, as you correctly stated --it doesn't matter --it's a "rub of the green" and we all abide by those rules That's why it's the greatest game invented You just keep keeping on Gabby You're the best
You'll definitely learn to deal with difficult course officials from this experience. Just ask for a second opinion immediately rather than deal with someone who is being unreasonable.
My first time seeing Spicy Gabi come out!🤣😂🤣 I get it! I always wondered what do golfers do in the situation where you have to go to the bathroom but you're out on the corse in the middle of a game. Is there time outs? Seems like it would be awkward with everyone waiting on you. That would suck with no close bathrooms. Doing the "potty dance" the whole way, one could definitely tinkle on themselves.
Gabby, on casual water, just remember the water has to be visible. It doesn't count if you have to press with your shoes to make the water visible, which is often the case. I would feel confident saying without looking at the rule, that even pressing the ground lightly with a club head or hand to bring the appearance of water to the surface of the ground does not count as casual water. The water has to be visible without any pressing of any kind. Great 3-Day score!
Very solid rounds Gabby, but I’ve come to expect nothing less from you now!! The ruling definitely seemed harsh to me, but I guess the lesson learned here is to ask for another rules official to determine\confirm if indeed it’s the correct one. I’m curious about your putting grip change, was that merely something you tried out in order to try and see if your putting got better or was there more too it? I’ve always putted right hand low and never been consistent so was going to adopt the cross putt grip going forward; I figured it couldn’t hurt 🤣🤣
I once heard (from a former rocker, Alice Cooper) , anyway when it comes to succeed in pro golf, he refered to the PGA tour and to make a great income playing golf you shoot golfrounds, 18 holes between par and around 70-72,… so Gabby if you this golfround played -2 and a 69 you are doing great for this golf in the future , ,… keep up you are so great ,.⛳️👍✅😃
I recently bought a Taylormade Spider GTX putter and my average round is about 5 strokes better than it was before. The hole is looking like a bucket at the moment.
So Gabby have u seen an improvement in your golf game with wearing your glasses. Also are u wearing the clear frame glasses so the frames don't distract your vision. Great game.
I believe that you could have used rule 3-3 (may have the number wrong) and announce during play that you dispute the on course ruling or playing competitors ruling and want to finish the hole with 2 balls, using each rule and then seek a final decision at the end of the round to determine who was right and which score to use for that hole. My son encountered a rules official in a college competition in Canada and used this rule to end the on course dispute. At the end of the round the playing competitors and rules officials got together to go over the circumstances and a ruling was made as to which ball would be scored. That ruling number was what everyone was calling it that day. I believe they even had that on the rules sheet so players knew this was an option during play for disputes.
Had a similar situation back when my daughter played hs golf and the official was a hs golf coach but not usga certified. He was rude too. My daughter played the shot what she thought was right and the coach said it was wrong. She got a second ruling after, and was told she was correct and didn't lose a stroke.
Definitely not pga certified 😂 but my understanding is if water is visible within your stance it is casual water and a free drop outside but no closer to the hole applies. Always the dammed left door and yes bathroom issues have been a known cause of hurry up golf and tense moments.😂
I want to use a conventional right hand low grip so bad, but I miss way to many 3 footers. I opted for the claw to keep face square through contact, I hate it but lowering the score is the object of the game.
The rule is clear. If you can see water before and after the stance it is casual water which allows relief no closure to the hole. Keep playing more tournaments. You will develop better course management which will lead to better scores.
Gabby love your true grit. Unfortunately in all sports, there are some officials involved for all the wrong reasons. They become an official solely for the moment they can access power. Of course, many times they also volunteer their time I suggest you know the rules better than the official. You play golf for your passion for the sport. Perhaps this official did you a favor, by highlighting what bad behavior looks like. In the future know what your rights are and get a 2nd opinion. Golf is a game based upon self-enforcement of the rules. You have every right to question a rules interpretation error. The game is played for the players, not the officials. Following the correct rules protects you and the rest of the field. I am proud of the way you handled it.
Here's the USGA definition of casual water: “Casual water” is any temporary accumulation of water on the course that is not in a water hazard and is visible before or after the player takes his stance.
Observation... you have putting issues and your fix was a bandaid not a real solution! Suggestion: Do the work and find your own putting stroke! Get a putting mat hopefully with a ball return! Start about 7 feet and get to work! Take a few putts just to warm up! Then test every variable you can think of! Ball position.. forward to back in the stance. Position related to your eyes.. are your eyes over the ball or somewhere else??? Remember this is ALL about you and what feels or works best! Grip pressures... experiment more pressure right.. left or even??? We've seen people use the claw grip... with the claw the claw hand is not pushing the club... the left hand is pulling it and the claw is just supporting! Length of the back swing??? Speed?? Moving away with the shoulders or hands and wrists?? Putter face angle closed.. even/flat or open/lifting the ball?? Are you hitting at the back of the ball..top.. or at the front??? Are you following through down the line?? Are you keeping your head down during the stroke or trying to follow the ball? I found that when I tried to follow/watch the ball I would pull the ball outside the cup! So try everything you can think of and make adjustments till it feels right! When it feels right it will feel like magic when you practice the stroke with your eyes closed! I spent 3.5 days finding my stroke... and I took notes during the process! I found absolute trust in my stroke to start the ball on line! So straight putts were money... and putts with break were great with the right read! Make this effort and you will find a stroke that you will trust! Don't limit yourself to what I listed.. try everything you can think of! When you find your stroke... keep using the mat several times (or more) a day till you don't miss!
Gabby is a very likeable young lady. Continued success to her.
Great swing, great personality.

@@erichansen3641 No that's not right. Temporary Water is defined as water that is not in a penalty area, and "can be seen before OR after the player takes a stance (without pressing down excessively with their feet)". Your game is Solid but what I love is the fact that you stayed true to your self you my have shown the respect to the official, but in my a pinon you showed greater respect to your self, and I liked it when you just walk away and went to your car, shows maturity, you cant change it, many would have had
a hiss fit and spat the dummy
Great video Gabby, really enjoyed watching, and I see you aren't really a hugger on the 18th. lol!
What is the definition of casual water in USGA?
By definition, “casual water” is any temporary accumulation of water on the course that is not in a water hazard and is visible before or after the player takes his stance.
You may play your ball as it lies or take free relief.
Splitting hairs, but the term “casual water” has now been replaced with “temporary water”. I don’t know why they felt a need to change it.
You’re very kind. It’s your best quality.
Good Job! What tees and yardages do you usually play from?
its fun to watch your journey. you are opening a lot of doors for yourself.
You are 100% correct. Your weight pushing down causes casual water to rise, and you are entitled to relief.
Just subscribed. i love watching your vids. keep up the good work. you are very talented
Gabby carry a R aA &US RArule book in your golf bag it will be helpful for future comps.well played gabby ❤😊
Great stuff Gabby! 🙂great vlog really interesting and quite exciting.
Gabby your spot on right about water, he’s bang out of order
Free relief is granted if the casual water is affecting your stance. Your ball may be in a perfectly dry spot, but if you take your stance and water begins seeping out of the fairway, you are technically standing in casual water and allowed to take relief at the nearest point of complete relief.
Good job, Gabby!!
I truly look forward to your videos. Keep up the hard work.
It was definitely casual water
The whole definition of casual water --is if it is visible
That's all we have to go on in that situation --it's not like we have a sponge on us to prove it!!
You were right --they were wrong
But the lesson, as you correctly stated --it doesn't matter --it's a "rub of the green" and we all abide by those rules
That's why it's the greatest game invented
You just keep keeping on Gabby
You're the best
You'll definitely learn to deal with difficult course officials from this experience. Just ask for a second opinion immediately rather than deal with someone who is being unreasonable.
An inspirational young lady who is heading to be a professional. ✊✊👍👍👍🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nice looking course Gabby 👍 great video as always 🥰
Great game.
Very well done, the rule has been on your side
Well done 💪🏻
Had a similar situation back when my daughter played hs golf and the official was a hs golf coach but not usga certified. He was rude too. My daughter played the shot what she thought was right and the coach said it was wrong. She got a second ruling after, and was told she was correct and didn't lose a stroke.
I always wondered about your putting grip. As a left hander I'm left hand low so tried to imagine it for a rightie.
Definitely not pga certified 😂 but my understanding is if water is visible within your stance it is casual water and a free drop outside but no closer to the hole applies. Always the dammed left door and yes bathroom issues have been a known cause of hurry up golf and tense moments.😂
Your ability to handle adversity is going to come in very handy in life. Love the video and golf.
Great job Gabby, sorry you had to deal with a rude official
That is absolutely standing water. No question.
I want to use a conventional right hand low grip so bad, but I miss way to many 3 footers. I opted for the claw to keep face square through contact, I hate it but lowering the score is the object of the game.
Love the golfers tan on the left hand! 😅
Working hard , good job .
The rule is clear. If you can see water before and after the stance it is casual water which allows relief no closure to the hole. Keep playing more tournaments. You will develop better course management which will lead to better scores.
That’s casual water, should have had relief.
I agree with the one guy in the video........get a second opinion. Good job Gabby!!
Fun to watch
well done on your putting
Great job battling through adversity, Gab.
Well played Gabby well played
Awesome awesome awesome video. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😁👍👍👍👍👍
whats your driving range warm up routine? curious to learn about how much one swings before a round
Here's the USGA definition of casual water:
“Casual water” is any temporary accumulation of water on the course that is not in a water hazard and is visible before or after the player takes his stance.
Observation... you have putting issues and your fix was a bandaid not a real solution!
Suggestion:
Do the work and find your own putting stroke!
Congrats ❤
You are correct 100%
If you take your stance and water puddles around your feet, that is casual water and you get the nearest point of relief.
Mission Inn is a great golf course
That official sounds like he's on a power trip. You should get complete relief from casual water.
