  • Having did a project talking about Kim Gordon and also hearing about Sonic Youth since high school, I figured I should finally react to them! What an important and relatable song for many people affected by schizophrenia, or any mental illness, really.
    Thanks for watching!

I fucking love this song. Sonic Youth were so far ahead of their time, and so inspirational to 90s music.

Thank you! More please! Teenage Riot, Death Valley 69, Sugar Kane, or whatever you like 🙂

You can draw a direct line from Sonic Youth to My Bloody Valentine to Radiohead, in terms of playing with atonal noise and feedback within traditional song structures. You can also draw an even more direct line from Sonic Youth to Nirvana, as Sonic Youth were the godfathers of grunge, and helped get Nirvana signed to their label, DGC, in 1991. Both genres, shoegaze and grunge, formed the base for the sounds of the 1990's, which Sonic Youth created the template for!

Excelent! More suggestions: Candle, Tom Violence, Star Power, Little Trouble Girl, Youth Against Fascism

Really enjoyed your video dude. It's an all time favourite song and kinda changed how I listened to guitar music when I first heard it at 15

Post-1990, this song changed significantly. Kim Gordon changed two bass notes after her vocal part, changing the entire back-half of the song from a fuzzy blanket to a hysterical panic attack.

Nice to see someone reacting to Sonic Youth, as it was the most important band of my young adulthood (way back then). I hope you do more from them, there are good suggestions in these comments. My recommendation is a jump in the deep end, The Diamond Sea from the Washing Machine album. It's long (19:35), but it's a trip.

EVOL is my favourite Sonic Youth album. Give it a go please. Beauty plus noise. I like that you're actually deconstructing it. Proper critic in the making! (I'm an arts critic, by the way) Sonic Youth grew from the No Wave scene in New York. 💕

Unwind is the most beautiful soundscape.

Your reaction to this song, and of one of my favorite bands ever, left me completely enthralled at your honest, raw, and reflective response. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, because this group do not get their due, especially their 80's recordings. Your whole response, viewing, and then, speaking on it was amazing - premium grass fed steak for the soul.

It's kinda insane when you look at what Sonic Youth was producing in the 80s. I saw a reviewer once call Teenage Riot the "perfect example of the sound of the 90s." Even though it came out in '88. 😆

First heard this track in about '85 and it immediately struck me. Love the discordancy echoing the schizoid theme. Beautifully unbalanced and deranged

Steve also did some memorable drummer on some early Cat Power albums. Myra Lee is a great, dark album.

The drums have a lot of inspiration from Kruatrock like Neu! I think.
