'DA not threatening to exit GNU over BELA Bill'

- The DA declares that the party will not exit the GNU over the signing of the contentious BELA Bill into law by President Cyril Ramaphosa, even though it is against it. DA spokesperson Willie Aucamp says they will, however, take the matter to court. He adds that Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube will implement this "even though they don't believe in it".

This Bill went through the two houses when the ANC had a majority. How can that decision now be overturned by a minority? The only option is for CC to make a final decision on the constitutionality of the Bill and not any dispute resolution body. This interesting part is that should the matter go to court the DA minister will be cited as the defendant against her own party.

To be honest we all heard the complaints about why the DA does not want this bill to be signed, but I don't think the reasons are sufficient to warrant the bill to be sent back to parliament (the complaints are just minor things here and there in light of all that is entailed in the bill itself). The DA must remember that the bill comes from parliament and was passed by the majority and it can be amended to address their concerns if the majority agree

I'm not an ANC member, but the President has a right to sign bills into law. He doesn't have to consult Ministers or political parties. The DA thinks it's GNU, and GNU is DA.
