My aunt Nell, (Ellen Mills) used to baby sit Maurice and my mum Joanie when they lived down the Elephant. She said he was a lovely little lad, always smiling and quite grown up for his age. Gawd bless all of them, so long ago now.

Parkie is the best interviewer ever. Caine is just the best. A northern Yorkshire lad chatting with a southern shandy drinking londoner.... no pretence just two friends having a chat. That's Parkie's gift, he's just got that manner that relaxes people and lets them talk.... You won't find anyone today as good as these two in their respective roles.

I've lived in Canada, The US, NZ & now Greece. I'm from Scotland. I honestly think Parky had the best questions, the best research and asked things that the viewers really wanted to know. Too many talk show hosts are more concerned with themselves or trying to be funny, the US is terrible for that.

What a wonderful man Michael Caine is and how self-effacing. He and I have much in common. I too grew up in London in Deptford, just down the road from the Elephant and Castle. I too lived in a prefab and my mother was a charlady. My mother also had a child out of wedlock whom I did not meet until he was eighteen and I was twelve. I am nearly 83 years old now. Michael is a little older. Listening to him brought back so many memories of my time living in London. I left when I was thirty, emigrating to Australia. Having lived in this wonderful land for over 50 years, I never had any regrets about leaving.

I remember he said ‘if you’re working class speak slowly to be taken seriously’.
Listening to him speak after reading his book really helped my elocution.
    What a wonderful storyteller.

Absolutely loved it, so thank you for the upload. Very interesting, diverse and 'down-to-earth' guy. I loved the anecdote about the theatre and the chair stuck in the door, that you must 'get over', and create a positive outcome, or simply avoid bad situations.

@@chunkychinn Yes, but he was still one of the greatest entertainers on the planet, and extremely successful. Unfortunately, he was no different to other people that didn't have a normal childhood, plus his father was not a nice man. Also, to be honest, I wouldn't want to have 8 siblings in a two-bedroom house. That's what they experienced. Horrible. As he himself said, when speaking for himself, his childhood was taken away from him. I would never defend Michael Jacksons wrongdoing, because he did horrible things, but I don't think he understood the difference between right and wrong. He was like a kid. He had, from a very young age, people around him encouraging him to do things that aren't normal (drugs, etc.)

Never enjoyed him too much in films like Get Carter, and the series of anti bond films he made. But when I saw him in Educating Rita I was totally wowed and have been a big fan ever since. A classy act. And definitely a national treasure.
