Long campaign with a challenge, open world, keen sense of militaristic detail, tons of cheat codes, and a perfectly-captured ambience I have never seen in any other game. It never tried to be a GTA copycat, it truly did its own thing.

Nostalgia trip, the best part for me was near the ending where you captured the final target and rushed back to the helicopter and prevent nuclear war.
There were a lot of marks in the game, but that moment was always very intense, every single time. It made you want it again, and more. The game designers made gold with this game. And due credit to the music team for supporting that.

I love this song, and the entire soundtrack. This is so theatrical. I can see an unmodified version of this song being the opening theme of Mercenaries: The Movie. Where it shows a war-torn country North Korea, and as soon as the actiony-part of the music plays at the beginning, it zooms in on the headquarters of the Merc HQ.

If you play on PC, you should look into PCSX2, it is a PS2 emulator. I played this on PS2. It runs amazingly on the emulator and I'm having a hell of a good time reliving my early teenage years with it.
Because EA bought pandemic and ruined it.
Because the same company that owns the IP and wpuld do the remake is the same company responsible for the Star Wars Battlefront remaster shitstorms.
I remember starting the game and trying to go straight for the big cards. Never ended well. Damn do I miss my early video game days on my PS2
I'd soooo pay $70 for a copy of this remastered gem. Its a shame what happened to LucasArts
It's also a pity that the sequel blew chunks.
@theusher2893 the ps2 version sucked but the ps3 version was significantly better gameplay wise. But the story was still ass because of how short it was. Like the first one took me days to complete and offered literal hours of replayability whereas the second one offered me none. Once the chinese or AN got nuked that was it. Just go around killing people for money finishing up side quests or whatever. At least the second one on ps2 had bounties to collect the ps3 version didn't which was lame.
I can't hold my tears
Best, beST, BEST, EVER!!!!
the music makes this game, no other game puts in this much effort, bravo
Whenever someone who doesn’t know about this game asks me about it, I always start with “It’s basically Grand Theft Auto: North Korea.”
Lol pretty much
This song brings back Memories.
