    Shearwater has been killing it lately. This new Peregrine TX is one hell of a unit. It's probably the last dive computer a typical recreational diver will ever need.
    If I didn't already have a Perdix 2, I would totally buy one.

    • @maxvandoorn3799
      @maxvandoorn3799 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @iBJanky from a perdix 2, it actually is a step down, but the thing is, Perdix 2 is overkill for recreational diving. There is a reason why they advertise it as a technical diving computer. The peregrine, on the other hand, is as you said the last dive computer a recreational diver will ever buy as it has everything you would ever want from a recreational dive computer, and even allows you first steps into technical diving with first planned decompression dives.

      @@iBJanky I hear you. Have been with a Mares Smart for the last few years and am upgrading. Having researched the market to the nth degree and wanting Air Integration, the TX feels like the sweet spot. I’m never going to cross over to Tec diving, so anything more than this wouldn’t seem much point.

  • @maxvandoorn3799

    Lost my dive computer during holiday and the dive centre had the peregrine as a rental computer. Feel in love with it during two dives and am seriously debating buying the TX with transmitter now as replacement even though it is over my intended budget. Should tell one enough about how great this product is.

    I'm taking this as a sign..

    I know there is a big form factor difference between this and the Tern TX, but is there any other major differences? I'm torn. 56 year old eyes thinks this might be better, but regular watch over chunky box leans towards Tern. Any big factors to help break the tie?

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They are quite similar but, there are some differences other than the size. The main one is that the Tern will act as a wristwatch and tell the time etc. where the Peregrine will just act as a dive computer.
      Otherwise, the *number of buttons*, the Tern has four buttons compared to just two on the Peregrine. Not a huge issue but, does affect how you interact with the computer. The Tern TX has a *freediving mode* where the Peregrine does not.
      *Battery life* is another slight difference, the Peregrine TX has a 30hr battery vs 20hr on the Tern TX (depending on brightness etc.)
      And the *logbook size* , funnily enough the Tern TX has a larger logbook with 500hr vs 400 on the Peregrine. Not a huge issue as 400 hours is a lot of diving to backup before you lose them.

      IMO the Peregrine form factor is better suited to cold miserable lake diving in low visibility with bulky exposure suits & gloves, surface intervals spent in a car park trying to warm up. Tern form factor better suited to glorious tropical diving with minimal gear and surface intervals sunning oneself on a dive boat :D

    So what is a dive centre likely to say when you rock up with your Peregrine TX and Swift Transmitter? Will it be a certainly sir we can accommodate that or sorry but you can’t put that onto our equipment? You’ll need your own regulator for that… I’m looking to buy my first computer for recreational purposes and I’m wondering what dive centres opinions are likely to be. Perhaps current owners of the Perdix or Teric might have an insight?

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I wouldn't have thought twice about doing it for you when I was working at a Dive Center.
      Most decent operations will be fine with it, it's quick and easy to fit them, you can even do it yourself in a couple of minutes with a hex key and wrench but, it's nice to ask first. The only problem scenario I can see is if they use 1st stages with only 1 HP Port and you need to choose between an SPG and the transmitter.
      I'd message them ahead of time just to be sure

    Will the Peregrine TX work with Aqualung Transmitters? The Perdix seems to do it. I bought the Transmitter few weeks ago for my I770R because Shearwater said they had no plans to do a Peregrine TX... And I will not buy a Transmitter for twice the money when I have one...

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not really. The log book is a bit larger on the TX also but, if you don't need AI or a compass then the regular Peregrine will suit you just fine.

    So... what's the perdix got that the peregrine tx does not?

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The main differences are the battery and tech modes. You can get a bit more customisability on the Perdix and it uses better button technology but, you can find a comparison chart of their computers on Shearwater's website.

    Other square shape computer are Tech computer, so they have over spec for recreational diver. My eyes become weak because of age, it means round shape computer, like Tern, is too small to see in 40cm range. Shearwater technicians agreed my opinion.... It's time to get AI computer! Also, I need a backup computer so I can solve this issue at once!

    So disappointed in my base model Peregrine. Did a lot of research before buying it and it has proved to be so Unreliable. The screen fogs over for the first 5 minutes of every dive. I returned it under warranty to the UK centre who stipped it down and could find no fault. They changed all seals and returned it.
    I do not dive in the UK so had no way to check it was working properly until my next dive trip. I fly 6 hours and board my liveaboard to find the screen fogs over just like before. You can't even read the screen. I try to keep it cool out of the sun but it makes no difference. I have never seen any other computer do this. My old suunto viper worked 10 years never any issues. Everybody comments and tells me my computer is flooded.
    I am now speaking to shearwater again trying to resolve.
