Dueling Spruce

- Here we have a double spruce that I had hoped was growing together a little more solidly. There was a good shot "out the hill" to the right for them both. I sawed underneath the bigger of the two, again, hoping it would be enough to drag the smaller one with it. Since the left tree was standing pretty straight left to right with a few feet of up hill lean I thought..........
My plan started to get sketchy while watching the deck cut come up tight and was then confirmed when getting the down hill side of the face squared up (note the waterfall). Falling timber requires you to be somewhat dynamic with the "I thought" concept. So, a little rip in the seam so we don't get pinched and a bore cut in the back corner.
The right spruce did have a little bit of down hill lean so I was thankful we are working on a wind blown ridge top and the wood is quite a bit tougher than average.
I'm currently available for port work. If you are in need or want to try something new shoot me an email.

Thanks for watching!
I think this one qualifies for a "Do not try this at home" moniker. Great vids, love your work!
I love watching you cut timber Jack!
I would pay admission to be there and witness a amazing felling solution.
El Dorado Woodcraft hobbies
Jack, very impressive work. Got a tad concerned with the saw overhead then I realized you have done this for many decades. You work a saw amazingly, be safe, take care and God Bless you!
Quite a bit of sap in that pair. lol Waterfall indeed. Impressive work there! Thanks for sharing.
Jack is back! Keep them videos coming! God bless and good job
You never disappoint; you point out the technical points of the felling solution. Your camera angles are great because the helmet cam doesn't alway show the total difficulty and you explain what we can not see. This one shows your gut feeling was telling you there is trouble ahead. Good Job!
nice job Mr Jack, always learn somethin watch in you make stumps and it's always a pleasure sir
Good job with the school marm....that Sucs Dolar...didn't do half bad...guess they improved over the years...take care
Good work, Jack! Thanks! Had a smaller Sitka Spruce gush like that for at least 10 min one time. All in a day's work!

Excellent! My wife bought me my GoPro too! Keep up the cool videos. Love what you do with those saws. Wish you were in my country, I'd have you tune all of mine haha
I will be sending a 562 to Wales and a 375 to Ireland here shortly. Pretty sure we could get you "properly equipped", if your interested.
Yessir! E-mail best way to contact you?
Dan Hargrave I am not sure what happened to the original response , since it doesn't seem to be posted anywhere in here , I apologize.

this is the best way to contact me. I think that most of my latest videos have the email address in the description.
Thanks for watching
I've never seen a spruce gush like that. Usually it's the firs with busted tops.
crotch..
I belive that plan A was to do the humbolt cut And fell both trees àt once but your axe got pinchs alittle so to avoid trouble you separated the trees, then fell the second tree in a proper place, probably the direction it was leaning or weighted .did I figured it right?thanks
how do you like the dolmar
So i seen a bottom birds mouth and a top birds mouth cut, just curious whats the difference or is there a reason or just a preferrence? seems like cutting a top birds mouth would be easier.
and she spills er guts!
holly shit Jack
You almost got flooded. Plan B was good. Was that just water and sap?
Question too jack, can you port my 6100? Or does the strato carb make it difficult?
erik j hi. I missed this post, sorry.
It's not the carb that is stratospheric. That happens internally. Stratification is the process of introducing a barrier in the transfers that slows down the amount of time the charge has to get into the cylinder.
They use raw air or exhaust to do this depending upon the engine design.
Both ways cause more heat in the combustion process.
The raw air design will lean the charge out a bit too - another reason they run hot.
I posted a video of a 6100 in WoodsPort trim doing well against a more built ms362 a few years back.
Thanks for watching.
wow is the only thing I could say
maybe you shoud lower the go pro camera, because we can't see cut.Greetings from Croatia
thats one cull of a spruce
Thinking that there was a response here already. They both were good - sound. Four long logs and a shorty from the bigger one of the two and four from the smaller. The smaller tree had a little over 3k in it and the bigger was nearing 5k.
Thanks for watching.
hotsaws101 I guess it's all relative.
was that a sap pocket or what was that? I've never seen anything like that before... I learn new things everytime I watch your vids!.. cheers from Canada!.
That was water from hollow rotten spot,
Probably from root rot be my first guess
Landon hi.
Better late than never I guess... it comes from above where I'm cutting. It is water that the tree/s will pull up from the roots to nourish itself. It is usually in a rift crack or a hollow/dead spot as mentioned on the inside. Sometimes though, it can be in the marm.
Thanks for watching.
I hate trees like this they can go where they whant at times my first one I ever cut was not pretty
