    Hannah, can you explain how I can cast off to make arm holes when doing purl stitches. Because I can only find videos of people explaining it for knit stitches. Thanks a lot

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Neveragain360 of course, it’s not really shown for purls.
      So start with purling two stitches, move yarn to back of needle and pass stitch over as you would with normal casting off. Move yarn to front and purl one, move yarn to back and pass stitch over as the cast on usually goes. Repeat that step of purling one and moving yarn to front and back again, and passing stitch over, for as many stitches as you need.
      Happy knitting! (Or rather happy purling!) 🧶

    Oh that was brilliant. Thank you. Now I don't need to call my mother to remind me how to cast off! (I wish I were kidding. Lol!) I've knitted now and then since I was a kid, and I always seem to forget the most basic things, like how to finish! As a bonus, I now know why my binding off on ribbed projects always looked like garbage. Very helpful tips!! I very much appreciated the three different approaches, your calm tone and the longer takes on the actual stitching. That was a very helpful explanation about the placement of the yarn and what is actually happening (with the disposed stitch going to the back).
    My only request would be that you actually hold up the stitches to the camera at some point so that we can see in closer detail what it should look like. Maybe my eyes are just not so good, but I couldn't really see the stitches. Just a close up now and then would help a lot. Even without seeing it well, I think I understand what is actually happening, so great descriptions! I definitely am now confident that I can finish my project (a cat blanket >^^< ) and am pretty sure I might remember all of this for the next project 😊
    Thanks so much for this great video!

      Yay! So glad you were able to cast off without hassle this time.
      I filmed this with the iPod many years ago, so close-ups were very blurry, I'm able to zoom in a bit more with the iPhone now, but it still doesn't focus sometimes. It just does depend on the edit.

    Hi am having a problem understand my patt it sayshape top it way cast of1st at bag of next 10 grow does that mean i cast off at bath end or my 4th grow with is my purl grow please help

    • @KnitWithHannah

      I imagine it means to cast off on both knit rows and purl rows. That usually happens on a shoulder shaping, or top of a piece that is going to look like the top of a semi-circle or triangle. Happy knitting 🧶

    I have a pattern that mentions B&T which according to the abbreviations means Bind & Tie and it says mentions threading your wool end on a tapestry needle and passing through the stitches on your knitting needle. Then draw up the stitches and tie off ! But it doesn't look right ! Have you got a video that shows how to do it please?

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I do this at the top of a hat or other item which needs the stitches drawn together tightly. I tend to go through the stitches once then start from first stitch again so they have the yarn through them twice, sometimes three times. But it has to be tightly fastened, and it gives the thread to sew up seam if you need to do that too.
      Not sure if there’s a video here on it, but the hat patterns on my website have videos linked. If I can find one I’ll add as a second comment here.

    Are you able to do a casting off in the middle of a row video at some point in the future? Just got completely flummoxed when a row in a pattern didn't seem to add up (body of a cardigan). Sorted it out now, I think, but could be handy for others.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm. That sounds like perhaps there were too many stitches? Casting off in the middle of a row would only be used for a pocket or buttonhole really.
      You’d want to decrease discreetly at the side perhaps.
      Happy knitting 🧶

      @@KnitWithHannah it was for where the sleeve would attach. I had to knit some stitches, cast off 6 stitches, knit some more stitches, cast off 6 the knit the rest. The cast off parts were for what would become the armpit. I confused myself because I tried to count the stitch that is on your right needle after casting off as one of the stitches knitted between to 2 cast off sections 🤦🏼‍♀️

    Hi Hanna,
    In a pattern what does it mean to cast off two stitches at the beginning of the row?

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As if you were casting off the whole row, cast off only the first two stitches, then continue knitting (purling or working in pattern) across the rest of the row. This is usually for an armhole or similar shaping on a piece of knitting. Happy knitting! 🧶

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alicia, what you could do is cast off with a crochet hook in your right hand, so it's easier to pull the stitches over and not lose the second one. This video will help you put stitches back on your needle if you're losing them: th-cam.com/video/OiS2psPky94/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps! 🙂 happy knitting!
