Just got mine today for 40 bucks! I'm shocked there are this many still around if they were only made in 1959?

Cool video! I just bought a 10-cup corningware percolator with the corn flower design (part of the recall) and we love it. Thanks for sharing

Turn the heat down to a medium setting once the perking starts. Let it perk for 8 minutes. Otherwise, you’ll be drinking coffee with a bitter and burned taste.

I would recommend you turn down the heat once it starts percolating. There is some know how in brewing a good cup of coffee with a stove top percolator. The Corning Ware ones are very nice.

Love these reviews! I have been using a vintage Corning-ware electric percolator all my life, something I learned from my antique-dealer mother. I am currently using a 6-cup model, very rare. It has just recently begun not to perk very vigorously so I think it is time to retire and and try to find a "new" vintage one. Maybe it is not getting hot enough, I will have to take a page from you and measure the temperature. Thanks for doing these.

I would scrub out the water scale out of the heating element! Happens to me occasionally!!!

I am from Ithaca, NY and from a house filled with product like this. I don't know who inherited her kitchen stuff but I bet you couldn't pry it out of them. I married a western man and miss having these products. This branch of the family just laugh at me on that subject. AND a valuable lesson for me was "you can't go home again". I tried and found that Gram's house and property are now a freeway entrance. No more fruit trees, gardens, and even neighbors. Even the stables where my mother worked to earn a bed for her own horse, is no more. The little creek that ran nearby is no longer seen because it is in a covert system - so no more salad fixings with the sourgrass that we use to glean for dinner. It is an awful price to pay for progress; when you have to lose your place of memories. It is not even on my list of a place to visit any more. No more family that lives there or even nearby. Thank God for Corningware. It is how I get to go "home again" every once in a while.

I just scored the platinum starburst 8cup! Mine doesn't have the 6cup-8cup water line inside though 😞
The lip on mine is perfect just like yours. Thank you very much for creating this video

The ones that were recalled is the 1974 year models I know I own one and occasionally use it

Here are some references on the recall:
      www.corningware411.com/p/known-percolator-models-and-patterns.html
      www.corningware411.com/p/non-recalled-corning-ware-percolators.html
      www.corningware411.com/2015/02/separation-anxiety-facts-about-corning.html
In essence if it doesn't have a pyroceram rim, it's safe to assume it was recalled. I use mine at my own risk.

I recently bought the 6 cup corningware percolator second hand. It came without the metal lid for the basket inside. Any idea where to purchase this item?

Any idea what the black coating is on the lid? I have one and see a little broke off, so I want to make sure it's safe.

I'm not sure what it is made of, my guess is that it would still be safe, but . . .

I purchased an electric pot with no cord, I'm trying to find out if I can use it on the stove

I'm curious if you tried. I would expect that you could, if you had a basket and stem from a stovetop model.

Be very, very careful with the Electromatic models or other models with the stainless steel lip. These used an aerospace grade adhesive that was cutting edge for its day. Over time with use and going through the dishwasher the two can separate. Corning recalled these models back in the 1970's as numerous reports of crashing carafes of hot coffee and broken shards. The older ones with the metal bands holding the pot are just fine. I can't imagine how awful percolated coffee tastes however.

I thought the blue cornflower stainless teel lip were not affected by the recall?

    • @kennixox262
      @kennixox262 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I would not trust any pot with the adhesive attachment. Only the banded models as the band grips around the vessel. @@yummy.crayon

You need to back the heat off once it starts to perc. !
