Now this is a laptop! Dell machines from this era are very interesting, not exactly the latest and greatest anymore but they still look great and work well. It’s awesome to see how many features the laptop alone has and it becomes even better when you combine it with the docking station. Even something like the Latitude is still solid to use, but with this you can clearly tell it’s a portable workstation. Windows 7 is still excellent to use and fixing the update utility helps a lot, but it’s also cool to see Windows 11 running. Using these older machines (even though they don’t seem that old) as daily drivers is always fun, even if the initial setup takes more time. Also, I’m not sure if this is applicable to this specific model, but you might be able to upgrade the CPU (and even potentially the GPU), this is right around the time when upgrades like that were possible and I’ve seen similar machines that have CPU sockets. Great video!
Awesome! I still have one of these. The GPU is on its last legs, but the machine still sees casual research use from time to time when I'm doing eBay listings. Definitely what I would consider to be my favorite computer ever owned. The keyboard is pretty decent, the 17" screen does wonders for productivity, and the trackpad is indisputably the best I've ever used on any laptop. The video publisher's unit is very well equipped, with the "fancy" screen and the quad-core processor (and perhaps even the FX3700M graphics, which mine was fortunate enough to have). If I'm not mistaken, the Dell wireless card actually is a dual-band wireless-n unit. It's not a hotshot, but I found it to be functional enough. To answer the concern at the end of the video about the glitchy keyboard and trackpad drivers, that is not a Windows 8/9/10/11-exclusive problem. Sometimes, it goes weird under Windows 7 too. In fact, I have a little script set to run every time the machine is unlocked that resets the key repeat-rate back to maximum. I also just always remember to never touch the trackpad until after logging in, else that glitch with the pointer driver that was pointed out does tend to occur.
Hi. Great video. I have a Dell Precision M6400 too. I wonder how you managed to install Windows 11 on yours. I haven’t found a workaround for this yet.
Saludos tengo una dell 6400 que al encender se apaga, y no funciona. Que podría ser? Greetings I have a dell 6400 that turns off when I turn it on, and does not work. What could it be?
you can buy a m7820 and put it in this machine, then you can use nimez drivers (for win10/11) to have modern graphics drivers and my one shows up as a mobile 6870 with tehse drivers.
