I love the stories we dj's have. I live in Phila but I grew up in Camden NJ right over the bride from Funk-O-Mart in Phila. I got most of my records there and at Sound of Market and Armand's.... Wow the good old days. I met Biz in Sound of Market. Tony Touch much respected soldier. Salute from DJ Y -Not...
Tony Touch and DJ Juice had the best intros during the mix tape era......Tony also rapped in Spanglish which was an extra bonus. His 50 MCs tapes are classics!!
Funny how i connected CRATE DIGGERS to a few deejays but no THANK YOU.. Its all good i still like the idea beside watching MY FRIENDS get interview. I learned a lesson for sure...
Just for the record I'm talking about CRATE DIGGERS not giving me any credit or thank you. I hit them with a list of deejays. It's all good cause karma is a bitch.. Said in my evil voice.. Ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaàa!
Always love these series. Great honor to see inside the vaults of so many legends. I have to say I have been turned on to a few new artists after finding your site. We host a webisode on crate digging - based in the West Coast. Swing by - think you will enjoy!
All that 90s hip hop takes me back. Had a lot of that (s/o to the 'liks!) I remember finding a Doo Wop and Tony Touch mix cd (my first) back in 96/97 and not fully understanding what was going on. Now it get it.
Thanks fuse for doing my favorite mixtape dj tony tocca (aka tony touch) on this episode. I still have his original power Cypher 50 mc's mixtape series from the 90's. Some of the best freestyles on that tape lol!
Great show! Would be awesome to see some techno or disco djs/producers on here to mix things up abit. Detroit/Chicago house guys from back in the day? I'm sure most people watching this show would appreciate different genres and be interested to see where their inspirations come from. Cheersss
Philly update*** The entire block where funk-o-mart was located was bought out to make what is now the fashion district. However, even before that, funk-o-mart was looooong under new management, only really selling stereos and Dj equipment. No records, sadly. Tbh I’m too young to have experienced the fabled Funk-o-mart myself. By the time I caught wind it was gone.
Tony is an interesting character, and one that Hip-Hop heads would like to see his collection for. Egon was great as well, love me some Stones Throw... but the last 3~ have been people no one cares about. I understand what was shown may not be the best, but his stories, and Toca himself is an interesting character, one I'm interesting in viewing a Crate Diggers episode from. Oh, and his collection itself was pretty great.
Finally!! One that actually fucking matters!! Hank Williams the Third... LOL. I requested Tony Touch a month or so ago too... Awesome! Keep doing actual interesting collectors please!
Stretch Armstrong PLEASE !!!!! he should have EVERY DOPE 12" single ever made in the game of independent and underground rap !!!! also dj riz or dj eclipse should have MAAAD dope wax!!! :)
I always view the newest crate diggers the Wednesday it comes out and then check everyday after (it's like going to the fridge every 20 minutes thinking something new is gonna magically appear, but it don't) thinking maybe they'll sneak one in there in between or maybe there's one I haven't seen. Every other Wednesday is purgatory. This wait'n game is killin me..............stop playing with my emotions smoke-a!!
dope to see this & hear him name check Funk O Mart in Philly, sadly they moved to a smaller spot in recent times & have little to no music in it..they used to have a whole fuckin basement of records/cds
I wore out my “Piece Maker” tape when it came out (got it on CD later ‘cus those last longer). “TONY…TONY PUÑETA! APAGA LA RADIOLA O BAJA LA MUSICA - MIRA VE LO QUE HACES!” 🤣
So fuckin dope!! you dont get stories like this with the internet age/mp3's...shout to that REDMAN 12" of cant wait in the background...oh and that new Piece maker return of the 50 MCs is DOOOOPE! just for the black thought joint alone pick it up!
Bought my first Tony Touch mix tape in 1993 on Knickerbocker Ave . I payed $45 dollars because a cop gave me a ticket for double parked 😂 because i ran inside the record store and left the whip outside blockin' traffic
Bottom line Tony Toca touch is one of the best dj slash producers from the game, he has done mad joints, the difference is he is like my dude Alchemist he's not looking for fame or notoriety. His work speaks for itself and he knows it- peacemaker ain't no joke, threw some water on bad situations. Notice a dope dj/producers aren't seeking fame-: Toca, alchy, just blaze, havoc, sauce money gets busy too
His mix tapes from the 90's were dope
he still drops mixtapes and they are still hella dope!!!!
his mixtape from today are dope...still! ;-)
me too I throught he was from terror squad with fat joe
@jonathanhuerta3811 you're thinking Tony Sunshine

Much respect on shouting out funk o mart on this. My pops was a part of that record store for many years.
Return of the 50 MC's is dope. I bought the signed CD and vinyl version - but only ever received the CD (months after purchase). Anyone else?
