Australia has about seven climate zones It is the sixth biggest country in the world. An Aussie, I dislike the weather in Northern Oz. The humidity is energy-sapping. There are many different kinds of Asian and south-eastern Asian eateries in Oz. To reduce jet-lag we do a stop-over for a night or two somewhere in between Oz and Europe. All Aussie cities are different to one another.

Everything closes early in suburbs. Except in cities. Melbourne has great night life and restaurants open until late. We get hot summers upto 40c in Victoria especially over the dividing range and cool often sunny short winters. With skiing ⛷️ in the high country in winter. We have Bells beach if you like to 🏄‍♀️ surf with some world-class competition.
Beach anywhere in Australia are fabulous.

Brisbane has very little in great take-away, you would be better off going to the pub for dinner. Travelling to England from here is fine, it’s coming back that’s a killer for jet lag.

There were lots of Chinese restaurants years ago ..they were like pubs, one on every corner, but Thai , Vietnamese, Japanese etc restaurants are more popular these days.

Just came across this and worked out you're in Brisbane, I am too, in the Cannon Hill area and I have to agree with you there are no good Chinese takeaway joints, perhaps in the City there would be but haven't found any in the suburbs yet. Melbourne has some great Chinese takeaways but a horrible place to live. For jet lag, normally (I think, from my experience anyway) all the flights land in the morning in the UK, and although you may not have had much sleep on the plane just fight through the day. I've traveled extensively and have never really suffered jet lag.

You could learn so much cooking in Australia because we are really a great big melting pot of cultures from all over the world . We also have some amazing fresh local produce thats so good the rest of the world pays high prices for it.
We have many internationally known chefs to learn from , and every day restaurants and pubs have great food or they wouldn't stay open for long. You would never be out of a job here in Aust if you can cook well.
All the best in your endeavors.

Australian Chinese and other here is not very noodelly (?)... Sweet Sour Pork, Honey Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Special Fried Rice are somewhere to start. If you order noodles you'll get soupy noodles which is more legit asian style. Thai is very good and Indian probably on a par (maybe hotter). I don't like seafood either but you'll get the best beef burgers at fish'n'chip shops and potato scallops, chicko rolls etc.

    • @TheGreatEmigrate
