This is a very handsome bike.
I have the 05 GS. In my opinion lower crash bars are a must have. Additionally have the Servo brake system serviced at least every two years or more frequently.
Happy riding from central Oregon USA.

I used a company called "courierdriver24" off Shiply Phil. very reliable and usually the cheapest.

@@allthatglitterz4564 It's a tough choice, both have skyhigh service bills, but the GS is well proven, although maybe as you say..... not very Sexy lol

Have an 07 and the ABS failed, dealer was looking 1200 for new one and was told it wasn’t a serviceable unit. After some research I removed it, sent it away and had it back in a week to 10 days for 220 with lifetime warranty. It’s been back on the bike now for 5-6 yrs and works perfectly! The ABS unit failure is not a major issue, plenty of info on sorting it which is relatively straight forward and not that expensive, unless you go for the usual dealer option!

The K1200R and S Models also suffer from ABS failures, very common issues on a lot of BMW bikes unfortunately

I think you've done very well with that bike for the money you've spent. Even these old bikes are strong money. Especially with the nice extras too, Sargent seats are fantastic and always in demand.
Crummy bolts are easily rectified by visiting Shaw Stainless, he does bespoke kits for these bikes and they're very high quality.
Not the most exciting bike in the world but extremely capable and functional. Mechanically they're super reliable and yours doesn't have the bits on it that tend to go wrong (ABS/ESA). Good job with the purchase. 👍

Hope she’s still doing well for you. I’ve had a blue ‘05 with Öhlins for about 2 years and she’s been perfect. I love having ABS even if it is whizzy. I’ll flush the brakes every spring, that helps.

I have an older BMW 1990 K100LT and have done what I do to all my bikes that is to purchase stainless bolt kits so that when I service it all the old bolts, nuts and washers etc are renewed with stainless. Given that 30 years on and BMW are still not doing that, it's a crime as well as the premium price point that their bikes are positioned at.

Totally agree, I just don't see how they can be considered a "Premium Brand" most of the cars have all the same issues with camchain failures (plus a lot more besides) and they can't even put on SS bolts on an £15k Motorcycle? but good call on replacing the bolts yourself, it's only around £100 to do it right, but we shouldn't have to.... after spending so much :/

That's in very good condition, mine is a lot rougher but with 100k on the clock.

The great thing is.... they will do 100k as long as you service them :)
