Thanks for the shout out, chaps! This was a fun episode to record. One little correction though: all the singers are me! I sang many passes of all three parts, though some of the passes I recorded lower or higher than the original key, and then they were re-pitched to keep things from phasing and sound like as many different singers as possible.
Fantastic writing, playing and mix! Amazing to see what so many talented people can do in such a short time. 53 takes in 50 minutes is kinda boggling, gotta admit. Nuts.
So supreme!!!!! MANY thanks for this!!! Didn't even think of using samples in "every other part" (inner harmony) of something so vertical. The "mono" part at 6:17 surprised me! Must've tied in with a "vintage" moment onscreen? (I'm not trying to be a smartarse!) Oh wait, I see it at 18:20 and 19:40 (explanation). And 53 takes in 50 mins? INSANE! Virtuosos, all around tunesmiths, players, and sonic sculptors! AWESOME!
Pro Tip: If you record live, record pro musicians, in other words, people who can play your music as good as you hear it in your head, otherwise stay with samples. Advice for future episodes: It’s good to see here and there, which plugins and what tweaks were made. It’s more interesting than seeing a screen of audio files, which don’t let you learn more. Because it’s about mixing and production, it will be more effective I think :)
Great vid! What are the mics you're using for the narrative portion? They appear to be shotguns or small condensers of some variety. They sound killer. Thanks
Are there any information what Kontakt Libaries Christopher Willis utilised? Lots of props to Satoshi Noguchi, but those Samples sound ridiculous organic. That probably saved a lot of work in the mixing phase.
A question for Satoshi: For trying to get HUGE Trailer percussion, I put the compressor (attack around 30ms & fast release 5ms & ratio 4:00, -3dB gain reduction) and EQ with some narrow cuts into PERC-instrument channels --> then send all those perc-instruments to PERC-BUS channel where I have: --> Distortion (FabFilter Saturn) + FabFilter's MB (your expander-boost/trick) + R-Compressor (little gain reduction, -2dB) + OTT Is this too much compression (if my goal is to get very hard-hitting/standing-out Trailer PERCS + HITS) ?
@@satoshinoguchi7180 Hello, thank your for the answer. If you use FabFilter's MB (your expander-boost/trick & 1-2 dB expand boost) for Percussion, do you have basic compression before and after the MB expander usually ? I'm just trying to figure out how to use expander + basic compressor at the same time.
Yep. I use the Fab Filter L2 to catch peaks and monitor LUFS. It's never hitting very hard, a few dB reduction at most. That's generally the only thing on my master bus.
Thank you for these mixing videos, they're very much needed on TH-cam, especially for composers. So if I'm correct, Satoshi imported and mixed all the tracks, regardless of style, in the same session? I'm doing a project that requires different styles of music, similar to the Micky shorts, but I was wondering if it was better to mix ALL the tracks in one mixing session, or to put them into their own individual sessions, separated by style of music. I assume it's better to do it all in one session for balancing purposes between each section of music? or are there other bonuses to mixing all in one session as compared to multiple sessions? Sorry for the long and convoluted question! - EJ
Thank for for the nice words. For Mickey I mix every episode in a single session mostly because we're mixing quickly. We generally get a single day to mix 2 of these episodes. Mixing in a single session does help us get an overall feel for the episode as well and balance different sections correctly. For feature films where we have more time we'll split individual cues into separate sessions and can do more to adjust the style.
Hi Paul, A bigger processor will always be able to handle more instruments and Kontakt instances. It may be possible to run some rhythmic elements and bounce them to audio once you decide on a part to free up CPU. The i5 is obviously older now so I think it would depend on if it's a single i5? Also, the OS you are running (some older OS's aren't supported by Native Instrument's more recent builds of Kontakt player (later version of Kontakt Player 5 and now Kontakt 6) you can see system requirements for Kontakt on Native Instruments website. I hope that helps! Best, Neil

Thanks for clarifying Elyse! Your vocals sound amazing!
Love your voice!! Tight work!
Crazy work!
Great video! Would love to see more of this series
There's a subtle humor in pretty much everything Neil does.... You gotta love it...

brilliant

Wow thank you so much, what a diverse piece of music. Amazing work Satoshi
Always good to see and hear "real world" examples. Thank you for sharing.

do sound design from start to finish ... from scratch to final mix please
Awesome video!
fantastic!

Hi, without hearing it I'd say you're probably ok. I often layer subtle distortion of varying types as well from different plugins.

Maybe I missed this, but are the live musicians stacked? Amazing how great just 11 players sound...
Yes! In some cases, Satoshi will stack and move players around to create the sense of a larger ensemble!
any limiter on the master out Satoshi?? THANKS!!!!!! nice video

Thanks for this !! What are the DAW controllers you are using there ?
You're welcome. It's a 24 fader Avid D-Command.

@@satoshinoguchi7180 can we get a new episode of this series with Elden Ring? I’m loving how informative these videos are.

Is an i5 processor suitable for using heavyocity Rythmic elements or is a bigger processor better

Beaucoup trop de baratin, faites mieux, pour un produit déjà cher, certes de très bonne qualité.
