Awesome throwing! makes me want to SQUAT and DEADLIFT more for power in my core!!!! thanks!!! I admit I do "train" with an indoor overweight (lead added) shot for the stones. But, I do wish, even indoor, we used a "simulated" or rubberized stone for throwing... the stone truly changes the way we throw it, different shapes and non-uniform weight makes a HUGE difference when putting the stone, vs a "indoor" shot-put. Sometimes you can even throw a stone better than the shot, sometimes. But these men are the top of the game here, impressive! My best is NO WHERE near these marks, but 42' ain't bad for a stone... (ages ago)
Fine throwing with an 18lb shot, but worth keeping in mind US college students threw the 16lb shot indoors well over 71 feet in the 2018 championships which would be about 67 feet with an 18lbs. Technique, technique, technique...
Just some food for thought...if we (highland athletes) had only 2-3 events to focus on, like college throwers, then there would be a different conversation going on. However, we have 7-8 events to train. To preach technique during a time when we may have the best technical athletes competing is inappropriate.
These are incredibly athletic guys, but, but if they hooked up with a good throws coach, they would be greatly improved. I am a former amateur athlete, weightlifter and throws coach. I could squeeze five to six feet extra out of each one of these guys. Just a thought, they have the physique, but not the technique, yet. I also note that is not a stone, it is a shot. Sorry, I am a fan and as a coach, I would be so able to increase their distances. good luck all
