I bought a great example 1990 650 Hawk from the sister of my unfortunately passed good friend Paul . Paul was a crew Chief for Chuck Yeager at Edwards AFB and consequently a great master mechanic . He extensively modified the Hawk : 954 front end , VFR rear wheel , Fox shock , Two Brothers pipe etc . Love the bike . Great reminder of my dear friend and perfect bike for my petite wife !! Great review ! 😀👍👍

Good vid. One thing to look out for is the rear shock. The stock shock was not very good and a good replacement is a bit pricy. Also, look inside the tank. If it's been sitting for awhile the tank is likely rusty and will need a complete treatment. I owned my first NT650 when I was completing my undergrad in LA. I would ride to campus and worked as a motorcycle currier. I loved the bike. I parted it out for a total of $2800. Over the years I've wanted to replace it and about year ago I bought a project Hawk and a parts bike. The project is just about done. I'll have it on the road this month. Can't wait.

Good tip with the shock. I didn’t include the gas tank because it’s something you should check on all old motorcycles and not just a hawk specific. Thanks for watching and hopefully you can enjoy yours soon!

There is one three hours from me that's on sale for $2000. It's a one owner bike too. It is well cared for. No crashes. Is it a good deal? I plan to use it to commute to work. I'm on the fence.

That’s about what I paid for mine. If it’s as clean as mine I’d say it’s a great deal.

Get it Lucky. If you don’t like it, you can sell it for what you paid for.

Yeah IF you love old bikes and tinkering otherwise frankly I imagine one would be happier with something more modern....leave the Hawk GTs for the rabid lovers of the old things....old stuff is a PIA unless you love all the pains

Friend of mine had one in the early 90s. He sold it because he was afraid he’d get killed on it. Beautiful motorcycle didn’t realize what it was for what it is

These bikes are far better than people know. I had one in the lates 90's, had fun passing litre bikes in the twisties, but coming home from work one day I got hit by a truck. I actually still have the bike, gotta decide sometime to part it out or something.

Depending on where you are and how bad it is I’m looking for one to do a custom build. My email is in the description if you’re interested.

@navscycles I'm in upstate NY and the bike is on my property in TX, so it will take some time but I'll get you some photos. It's in rough shape, but there are alot of good stock components on it and I'd love to see it go to a good home so-to-speak.

@@barronmoody4416 Not to hijack any deal with navscycles... but if it doesn't work out, let me know. I'm in Austin. Where are you located in TX?

On any given weekend riding the twisties a decent rider can pass Liter bikes and ANY other bikes riding damn practically anything as there are just so many riders lacking skill and or confidence or why ever IDK. But I live in the twisties and the regulars up there on larger bikea I can promise you NO basicallystock engined Hawk GT is doing anything other than being left in the wake (there have been some radcally modded 90hp Hawk motors by Two Brothers Racing etc on RACETRACKS but you wont see those in the wild and I doubt any are street legal anyway)....Im just saying in the twisties passing random "Liter bikes" is a meaningless statement....I think some of the crazy bicyclists going down the mountain may even be passing some of em idk lol. Even the heavily glorified SV650s get shat on in the twisties with any straightish sections they simply cant make back up for to the bigger guns....although no doubt there ARE some ultra tight twisties where less shines I am not denying that.....especially downhill....Kinda like my little 2300 llb Miata that starts thinking shes a supercar on the down hills.

I bought a new one in 1988 and honestly was disappointed. You see I had just totalled my GSXR Limited Edition (single seat dry clutch brakes from 1100 etc) which I massively adored the only reason I did not replace it with similar? My wife was very firm "no more crotch rockets till the kids are grown) having been off work for 3 months healing up I saw her point and THOUGHT I would be happy enough with the raved about Hawk GT......What I found instead was frankly boring after the GSXR (No one had even started calliling them gixxers in 1986 btw) Now HAD I lived close to a nice tight twisty canyon I probably would have appreciated the little Hawk more or a race track with a class to race other such bikes idk but just as something to ride to work and cruise around on? BORING....Ortega Highway? All my 750 buddies left me for dead (there are full on 150mph+ straight aways) Sorry I just love me some power, what I call teleportation passing power where safe passing is created rather than waited for so these days I am sporting an MT-10 which is nowhere near as narrow and lithe as my old Hawk yet I know I am working the MT-10 165 beast to much better effect. I never see Hawks anymore but I alsw dont find similar bikes like the SV650 actually defending the hype around them as ANY straight sections at all undo whatever good they had done and then gap them in into utter shame. SO again unless you A. Are a responsible adult riding within the law or B. have some ultra tight twisties without any straight sections or C are racing in classes with similar bikes? Little V twins just wont cut it....then again I suppose some people dont thrive on adrenaline and just putt around local roads ....bu tlike I said even that bored me to tears on the Hawk GT.....but whatever ya know? it is still a wonderful little bike to look at if nothing else my 20 cents on the matter (inflation)

How did you total your GSXR Limited Edition? Did you encounter a corner?
