Your photos were beautiful, great video as always Mike. Just need Santa to bring me that drone I've asked for. Looking forward to next weeks video already.
Though I have been accused of droning in and on, I am not a drone owner. I was helpfully reminded of your image averaging video which I want to incorporate into my long distance bird photography! Thank you!
Those were some great drone photos, Mike. Phuket looks beautiful and a perfect place to do some flying. I love getting stills from my drone and have used your stacking technique before to get much cleaner images. I still fly the original Mavic Pro. It is not the best image quality when it comes to stills, but using different techniques like stacking and bracketing and timing of the light can produce some fantastic results. Now I just need tickets to Phuket and I will be in business. I hope you guys are continuing to stay healthy and safe. Take care, brother.
Thanks so much Steve! it has been fun getting the drone in the air so much lately, really been enjoying it. The mini 2 also has a pretty average camera at 12Mp, so I know exactly what you mean. The stacking technique works wonders for cleaning up the image though. We're all good, got lots of changes coming soon ... all exciting and a little scary ... but you'll see what i mean soon. 😁👍 I hope all is good with you and your family dude!
I wish I could take credit for that one ... however it is stock footage from the Dolomites ... such a great shot though!! Can't wait to get back into the mountains!! Thanks for watching 😁👍
Great video and pictures, Mike. I wish I could get into drone photography as well. I am mostly afraid I would drop it in a river or the ocean. Waterproof drone are a bit out of budget at the moment. Stay safe and hydrated.
Haha! It can be quite nerve racking!! On one of the flights at the point, I had the warning come on and the drone was still 1km away from me ... I only just got it back and landed it ... I was being a little wreckless that time though so it did teach me a lesson. They are a lot of fun and easier than you think to fly...but I know what you mean about budgets ... so many toys to drain the bank account!! 😫 As always, Thanks for watching my friend 😁👍
Haha!! I know what you mean ... I've had to stop watching videos on the A7iv and the 35-150mm lens ... I'm trying to suppress the instinct to buy now...😆
The Photographers Ephemeris both the standard and the 3D version are great for data you can use for your drone. ND filters also help with the stacking. I'm a fan of A
Thanks very much and thanks for reminding me of the great tool is TPE ... these planning apps are so good to work out exactly where to go. As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Thought drone photography had to do with type of bees; who knew😁. As a city dweller, never tried the genre. Saw some amazing “stunt” drone footage taken indoors (at bowling alley, as I recall), but not stills. Vid has rarely covered drone aspects - nice. Best drone image would be shot of bird attacking drone, just before crash😁. Cheers!
Haha! Thanks very much! I've actually had seagulls swooping down on a drone before in the UK ... they do get very territorial...luckily they didn't take it down though. As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Thank You for the interesting video. B is my option! Love the contrast. Will check the video over 'Photopills'. Edited to go over your second request: would love to go and purchase a drone. Not doing at the moment as I am focused on my sports photography. Would be a great asset, just not going now for it mainly because of current regulations - are just to over extensive! Not against, by any means, is just like taking a 'pilot course'!!! Time is lacking!!! Cheers
Thanks for your thoughts Carlos. I know what you mean about the regulations ... lots of red tape and in some countries a test as well. Luckily in Thailand, you just need to register it with a few governing bodies and then you can fly it normally. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Dear Mike, I’m truly inspired from your videos, you have teach me A LOT! I’m planning to pre-order Sony A7IV for portraits. Do you have any suggestions between 85mm 1.8 or the G master? Because people have different opinions and I would love to hear yours🙏🏻 I really appreciate your help!
Thanks so much Ali for your kind words, that means a lot and helps me when I need a bit of motivation to make the videos for my channel for you. I have the sony 85mm f1.8 and I love it for portraits. There is a bit of difference between the two lenses but it is not as much as you'd think. the G master will blur the background a little more but most people won't notice the difference. Personally, if I was you, I'd go for the 85mm f1.8 and save some money for other lenses. I also love the 35mm f1.8 and those two work so well as a pair...I always have them both with me and they are my most used lenses. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching 😁👍
@@mikesphotography Thank you for your valuable information, I will definitely stick to your great advice as always. Can’t wait for you to launch your workshops that I’ll definitely pay and register.
Mike, great stuff here. However, I believe your information about maximum flight height beginning at 6:14 is incorrect. The maximum height restriction is how high the drone is above ground level, not takeoff height. The restrictions in the U.S. read: maximum height is 400’ above ground level (AGL). The only exception is if you are within 400’ of a structure, in which case you can fly 400’ higher than that structure. For example, you would be violating this restriction if you took off from an elevation of 300’ ASL (above sea level), flew the drone 200’ straight up (you are now 500’ ASL and 200’ AGL) and then flew over ground that was lower than 100’ ASL. You’re in violation because you would be higher than 400’ AGL.
You are right in that respect. It is over the land you are currently flying that dictates the height ... so if you fly it off a cliff, you'd have to readjust your height so it is lower than the maximum permissible hight, otherwise, technically you'd be breaking the rules. I made a correction in the description as I'd already filmed and edited it together. Thanks for watching 👍
what software did you use to stack the drone images to fake the long exposure? edit, it was photoshop, but how do you stack them to get that result? i dont know this setting
In photoshop, add the images into layers. I just do this from lightroom as there is a specific setting at the bottom of the list in the "edit in" function. Align layers in the edit menu so they match perfectly. Then, select all layers and in layer dropdown menu and convert to smart object. Then lastly, in layers menu, select smart object, stack mode, and then select either mean or median. This should average out all of the images and reduce the noise. I hope that helps. I also did a video on this last year: th-cam.com/video/Ns2IHdgRSFA/w-d-xo.html&t Thanks for watching 😁👍
If nothing get's in the way, and it's not the old wifi connection (like with the dji mini 1), then you can get really far... I have had my drone about 2.5km away and still connected.
Ah man, that sucks ... I've crashed a couple in the past but a long time ago and they were pretty small, cheap ones ... I hope you can get it sorted and be flying again soon. 👍
Thanks for the feedback Bruce. These are all on Phuket Island, just off the coast of Rawai, at the point of Promthep Cape, and then the surfing ones are at Kata Noi... and the middle shot in the thumbnail is at the very famous viewpoint at Pang Nha, just on the mainland from Phuket.
the HDR tip in Lightroom was amazing, I didn't know that feature. Thanks man, great video!
That's great to hear Fellyp!! It's always fantastic hearing that I've been able to help or teach you something new!

Just learning. I have an Air 2S and have been a photographer for years. This has been a new beginning and I appreciate you sharing this.

Lots of great info Mike, never flown a drone but, love the images you can get with them, which you managed to do. Cheers 🙏🏻🍺🍺
Thanks very much Michael!! It is a fun aspect of photography that I'm really enjoying at the moment!

Great video, do you use nd or nd/pl filters for drone photography?
Thanks very much! I don't at the moment, but I will be getting some when I upgrade my drone to the mini3 later in the year.

Just got my first drone. Was curious how I could use it for photography as well. Perfect timing. Thanks Mike!
Haha! That's awesome to hear ... it's always good when it is perfectly timed!!
Which one did you get?
@@mikesphotography bought the phantom 4 from a friend of mine. Still learning but its super fun!

How cool is the shot at 6:44? The parallax gives an incredible feel for the scale of the mountains.
