That is a really smart move on your city/state's part. What a great way to conserve water while still being able to irrigate your yards!

That is a remarkable way to water every two weeks!! Nothing like that her in Philadelphia. Reminds me of the old Roman aqueducts.

That's neat. Where I live isn't anywhere near that dry so the idea of doing the equivalent of a spring flood every two weeks brings only thoughts of a muddy mess.

I find this flooding, cannel watering method fascinating. I have a water bill in front of me for $114 and that's for three months water here in the bay area.

These properties are the better ones in Mesa. One of the pipes was clogged near center by the river so I worked hydro jetting the line clear. I couldnt get the hydro better hose through one way so I tried in somebody else's yard that the pipe and canal was connected to and blew the tree limbs and debris clogging the pipe out after a couple of tries. The guy I was working for said keep trying on the side that house and was for sale on. But the hydro jetter hose not would go through after 20-30 tries and he couldn't get it to go through himself after sassing me bunch loads. I was getting worn out and the pipe was still clogged. So finally Paul McQueen listened and we went to the yard on the other side of the pipe and after I tried a couple of times the jetter hose blasted through and cleared the pipe.

If only more desert dwellers understood this method. We are in El Paso TX where we don't have this system, but benefit from the style of irrigation. Most of the area does sprinklers many days that loose a ton to the air. We do flooding as needed and save a ton and have such great growth that professionals being shown pictures of our tiny yard have advised it can't be done here, not knowing we are local. 😂😥

Very interesting flooding system there in dry hot Arizona!! Not something we're used to in our cold winter climate of Ottawa, Canada. Maybe you should invest also in a Aquascape Rainwater Harvesting system from Ralph Biezad. BTW, the pond build looks wicked! (a fellow Aquascape water feature builder)

Wow that's crazy I really had no idea that you have to have a set time when flood irrigating. Where I come from we can just open the water whenever we want to flood irrigate, so that was a big shocker. But that's very cool that you have a ditch in your back yard, I wish I had that you are very lucky. I have to walk 300 yards to open my ditch and wait 30 minutes in order for the water to reach me. I really love your goats and your chickens. Wonderful video.

I need this on my property! I live in Australia and temps range from 23-118F, the farms around here have these channels but not homes. We pay for our water. This idea would make growing anything so much easier. It's a dry year, 3.5" so far. Enjoying your videos :)

this is a great watering system and cheap !
but in my country it will not work because it's only once every 2 weeks !
we need to water our garden twice a day in winter and 3 times in summer
cuz the heat overher is so crazy high
and we have sand not dirt where it will keep the water
I love farming and I wish we had a better weather
we and our plants and animals are struggling because of the heat xD

On our property here in MI, we have 2 ponds, about 10-15 springs (about half seeps) and a nice wide creek filled with spring water. Now I know it is different everywhere you go, but how is that not a huge waste of water? Here we have a huge excess of water and still use drip irrigation directly on each plant if not sprinklers only where they are needed. Still though, that seems like a lot of fun.

Plants free of water deficit events more efficiently absorb available plant nutrients enabling plants to achieve their maximum genetic potential. SWRT membranes installed below plant root systems retain water where it falls, providing continuous delivery of
drought-free periods up to 3 times longer than intensely irrigated control sands without root zone water retention membranes (Guber et al, 2016).

I love that idea. It just seems so wonderful and the best solution to any watering just about anywhere. It doesn't make sense to have people water with treated H2O. Idiotic actually. I lived in the Niagara Peninsula and just a block from the Welland canal. That city could have easily done this, rather than have people use treated water. Of course there watering was restricted most of the time.
One question. You live in a place with scorpions. How can you walk around in your bare feet? LOL No seriously. Doesn't it make you nervous?
