The investing for dividends was most interesting for me. Additional thought on that: index fund investing by a Ltd company means the dividends received are free of corporation tax.
Hi guys. I’d love to know more (or your thoughts) about 1) their dividend portfolio, ie what are the index funds & ETFs they’re investing in, or are they buying lots of individual stocks from mature businesses? 2) I’m also unsure how they grew their portfolio from $1m to $1.8m if they weren’t invested in growth stocks, like the US S&P? Some more on these two topics would be really useful? Thank you kindly :)
This was such a great interview and definitely inspiring. Took away some key principles! I would also love to hear from couples/individuals who have had pretty average salaries (£30k) and hear their journey. I seem to read/watch a lot of FIRE stories, but mainly from individuals who earn or have earned very high salaries (£60k and above).
I thought I spotted Christy in that picture with JL Collins! Their book is very good. It's an easy read for someone not in the financial space (me). Her stories about growing up in China are inspiring!
Heard an interview with these guys recently that was recorded approx 5 years ago on 'Mad Fientist' channel. In that one they stated that they were invested 60/40 stocks/bonds. In your interview with them it sounds like they are now committed to worldwide stocks portfolio only (or mostly) and relying on the yield. No mention of bonds. Thanks for conducting this one. Interesting stuff.
What a brilliant - if somewhat windy - interview. Thank you so much for sharing. I tumble into being 56 in just over a week and am focusing everything now in getting my pieces lined up so we can escape and explore the world.
Just a guess but the typical 3 fund equity portfolio many Canadians use is: 1/3 Canada ETF, 1/3 USA ETF and 1/3 Rest of world including Europe and emerging markets (ex Canada). You can look up the Canadian couch potato podcast or blog for further info. From a UK investor perspective it will be closer to Vanguard’s LifeStrategy 100% which has a heavier home weighting to UK or in their case Canada. I personally don’t overweight UK due to following its true market cap weight of somewhere between 4-5%. So this is where a global equity fund makes sense as no need to rebalance just set and forget. Hope this helps.
Great video. Enjoyed it. If it works for them, it works. I think after a while I would need or want that permanent location and access to family and friends etc. It would be great for a while and I have done it myself , of sorts when I took my career break. Practical questions, do they have a worldwide SIM or do they just rely on WiFi to access message apps like messenger or WhatsApp? Also it must get costly having to exchange money or do they utilise currenty apps like revolut ?
Great story! I can relate. My approach after turning 40 in the corporate environment , made my realized financial independence were only to be achievable way into retirement. so I started a handyman side hustle, scaled the business to 4 employees, kept my corporate and invested the income in ETFs and the individual FAANG stocks, max out my 401k, and Roth IRA. we looking to retire at 55 and travel the world.
Did you manage the staff yourself? What did you use to scale your business? I'm also on this journey but in my early 30s and have 3 children. I'm assuming from certain spelling you're from the US I am from the UK would love any tips you could provide. I'm working full time and trying to juggle the cleaning business trying to learn how to take the straight dive and rely on the business but float life at the same time!
Get the money first. Such women don't like broke guys like you since you don't have money to invest in index funds, etc. She grew up in poverty but she's not currently poor
We'd love to hear from you below. What one thing stood out for you from this interview? :)

Brilliant video, I always knew this was possible. But when you have kids your priorities change. Will love to do this when kids leave home.
Brilliant interview and story.
Was great to be part of that week. Thank you

It would be great if you could explain how they invested their money. I didn’t really understand what they were saying!

These guys are my hero’s lol
Elegant simplicity in their approach.
This is an amazing watch. Thanks for sharing. Geographic arbitrage and world schooling will be getting researched to death by my wife and I! 😀
Haha 😁
Is it possible to reach financial independence in 3 years?
It is. A friend of ours did it. But you'll need to be very determined and creative.
Do they have kids?
Has to be DINK income
It should be brutal with kids
Mlmmll
Haha these guys live by maths?? Lol dear oh dear!
Need help finding women like this in London first before any millions can get made 😅😂
