  • Ajahn Brahm gives a talk on meditation and how it works. One of the central principles and practices of Buddhism has been meditation. Those who know anything about the history of Buddhism know that it started with one person meditating under a tree. If there’s any holy book in Buddhism it is the holy book of meditation in which you can read in your own heart, in the stillness of your mind rather than any scripture.

My heartfelt thanks to Ajahn Brahm for all his good instruction and guidance to us regarding the way of meditation practice. That one concept "Building the House of Peace' helped me to escape the pressure of expectation every time I sat (wondering how 'far' I would 'get' in that sitting!). Now, if I notice expectation in the mind, I recall that idea and LET GO of any expectation, making the aspiration to simply do the practice, and leave the results to Nature. Peace will ripen in it's own time.

@swazij He wrote an excellent meditation handbook called 'Meditation, Bliss and Beyond' and I learned much from it and recommend it as a 'how to' of the essence of meditation practice. I must advise, however, that in the later chapters of the book he is just a little dogmatic regarding certain higher philosophical concepts, but the first half of the book is all you really need anyway and is the best guide to (especially breathing meditation) I've yet to find.

why is it so hard to practice buddhism finding a way to control your emotions dealing with your situations in a buddhism good way it's hard to be kind and have well self control i want to be the kind of person that's something like a tongue bitter ill guess ill go to temples and just learn there

+Maurice Turner-Brown I know, it is very difficult and it can be very confusing. But with time, practice, and plenty of patience, you will see great results. I would suggest listening to Joseph Goldstein. He is very easy to understand and learn from.
      May you be happy!

Maybe maybe not. temper your high expectations. Brahm is only trying to share something and is characteristically self effacing.
