hahahaha, I was 2 mins into the songs, and was wondering when he was coming to sing... just to realize it was a song without him. Good old DT jokes about LaBrie lol.
Their so good you'd actually think they were taking the piss but they're just THAT good. It's pretty incredible how talented this line up was. You don't get much better at your craft than this. Jordan is probably the most insane musician I've ever seen live. Him and John were lying down on stage doing solos, it was incredible.
Oh wow I forgot about all the psychedelic video effects haha. And I watched this DVD 100's of times back in the day. Great memories. Can't wait to see MP jam out these tunes again
This song has 140 signature changes varying from simple 4/4 to absurd 15/16, 13/8 and so on. Playing this without notepad requires insane amount of focus and memory. Hats off whoever plays this but these dudes literally created this...
whoever disliked this magnum opus deserves to get deaf or just ... i dont know. reborn in 2999 where the only music people hear those days are ad jingles.
For me, a top 3 instrumental. Number one: la villa strangiato, number two: a dance of eternity, number three: YYZ. Yes I am a rush fan, but a very big DT fan as well!
Don’t get me wrong, Mangini was an accurate drummer. But I felt he always missed the power that Portnoy had. It’s like the music was just slightly above his capability that he was concerned more about hitting the rights notes, rather than putting everything into them. But you don’t get that with Portnoy. And maybe that’s because well… Portnoy wrote the parts. 😂 But let’s just say, I’m glad Portnoy’s back in the seat.
The first time i saw DT playing live was in a VHS live in Japan, i fell in love with those guys, my favourite album is "falling into infinity" with Derek on keyboard, and a wonderfull James Labrie. Metropolis is one of my favorite album but i still thinking that without mike portnoy The Band will never be the same again.
Holy balls that was insane. Cannot wait for MP to return to Dream Theater. Huge love to MM, he has been so graceful about it. However I personally feel MP is back where he belongs! Cannot wait for their new album!!
This is Dream Theater. Anyone else remember these guys? Mangini just cannot capture the essence of Portnoy's work. He's a great technical drummer, but he just can't pull this stuff off the way it was intended.
Petrucci plays a lot of this stuff in different positions than he did on the "Breaking the Fourth Wall" show. I'm trying to learn the song on guitar but it's a very slow and painstaking process for me...
Mike Porntoy is a driving force !! he is was gone , now he is back , and his drumming is far more better , more musically , than the drummer who try to replace him , but no one can replace the drumming of mike which is quick , complicated , but still musical.
5:15 is exactly what I was looking for. the picking pattern forces you to do 2 down strokes in a row otherwise the picking would be reversed the 2nd time around. learning this song is one thing. learning each part 2 different ways is too much :D
Marty Friedman on keyboard!
dude, I am laughing my ass off
Herman Li on BASS;
Jesus on Guitar!
Ohhhh yeeaaaahhhh!
Billy Connolly on drums
LaBrie's best performance yet!
hahahaha, I was 2 mins into the songs, and was wondering when he was coming to sing... just to realize it was a song without him. Good old DT jokes about LaBrie lol.
Sounded just like the studio version
"Take it back, Leorio!"
Corny
You should better watch what you write about LaBrie.
Your joke is too trite.
"what time signature do you want to use?" - Dream Theater: "yes"
Back when:
John P didnt had that long-ass beard
John M was more active
Mike was still on the band
Jordan had hair
Had forgot Jordan had hair once 🤣
In this time, JP was like a Fox … now is a Bear
And Mike is now back with the band!
Debatable. Looks like wig.
Imagine being in the crowd and trying to headbang to this
Legend says that if you can headbang to this song perfectly you'll become god.
This was 100x better than their last video'ed performance.
"how many time signatures does this song have?"
"all of them"
the best band ever!!
I miss these days when myung’s bass was audible.
Honestlyis much more audible than in the albums
Their so good you'd actually think they were taking the piss but they're just THAT good. It's pretty incredible how talented this line up was. You don't get much better at your craft than this.

jadi inget waktu sma(2001),,,jadi banyak temen anak band gara2 punya video vhs live yang ini,,,,tahun sgitu...anjirrrr
Oh wow I forgot about all the psychedelic video effects haha. And I watched this DVD 100's of times back in the day. Great memories. Can't wait to see MP jam out these tunes again
Soooooo AWSOME!!!
LaBrie's part is the best!
2019: Happy 20 years
Jordan Rudess playing the hardest solo that you'll know: 😁
PRIME Dream Theater.
that video effect tho
se me cayó baba en el teclado por mirar atentamente
THATS IT
Its just, The Master Piece.
That title card in the first few frames looked like a SpongeBob transition ngl 😂
Jordans usava peruca nessa epoca?
Gastão Moreira on Keyboards
didn’t know angryjoe played drums
Who?
Jordan here looks like Marty Friedman and 66Samus
2:42 looks like someone missed a note
I didnt know rudess used to have hair? Hahaha just kidding
Now that Portnoy is back. We get to here this again. The real version. Pumped.
Now we need Marty Friedman back on keyboards
@@davidgradinaru7313
why don't you bring him back for your own.
@@katsuyama7810 because he is great and we all need him, not just me ;)
Man those notes myung is playing are lower than my self esteem
🤣🤣🤣

Impossible to play with a metronome thats for sure
I'm learning it on guitar. I have the first 2 minutes of the song down. I think it's a lot harder to learn on drums than anything else
@@ShadowKiller571 yeah and there is no one to cover up for your mistake if you are the drummer 😄
@@agents5344 why?
@@mathyas159because all the time changes, you can’t play this with a metronome 😅
Obviously Rudess's power is not from his beard
He has 4 balls dude😊
The man who edited the video makes me fly
Portnoy, actually 🤣 That's why the more onscreen time is from him and his compadre at the time, Petrucci
John Myung seems to never age
Ruddess with hair?!...
Roberto Pérez And without beard!?
early times...
Most disturbing thing i've ever seen
@@Maschine_Elf No that's rudess, he joined the band just before they started working on Metropolis pt 2
But who's the camera guy?
Dream Theater is the ultimate collection of music gods!
Jordan has never played those octaves more cleanly than here, holy crap 2:23
Holy shit, thanks for pointing it out, that’s amazing when I pay closer attention
1:50 Isn't that cute? They're trying to pound their fists to the beat.
Lmao
There is more energy with Portnoy as compared to Mangini. No offence Mangini fans, just a passing observation.
Better dinamics and sound, no doubt Portnoy fits better
The POWER in Portnoy.
The soul of DT 😭
Didn't know Jordan Rudess had hair
Man, these effects have aged badly, I always wished there was an option to remove this crap when I first got the DVD. It's distracting.
They should publish a re-edited version without that shit
I mean it is the 2000s dude, they prolly thought this was thr coolest shit ever.
@@AaronKaiMCDNLD No man. Hell no. Here a 2000er and that DVD is the worst edited shit ever.
Thats actually because the song caused seizures to the editing guy.
Omg Rudess has changed O_o and Portnoy too :o and also Petrucci?! o.o And Myung uhm... yeah
Marcelin Huguet myung is a vampire
Myung hasn't changed at all 😂
He got new bass.. 🤣🤣
Myung....Myung never changes
Lyrics by John Myung
Lol
and to think, I was at this show. :)
Epic.
Can`t believe how few views this has, insane performance. Rudess, those polyrythms from portnoy ! In 2000 ... Just crazy.
Absolutely Insane performance
I would kill to watch this song
essa música é de 1999 jão, nutella do carai0
I honestly had no idea this was rudess lmao. I just saw hair and assume it was Kevin Moore
Ariana Grande licking a doughnut on display has more views than this video.. disgusting.

LVS is undoubtedly the best instrumental ever, it's on a whole different level. This one is my second fav too tho
Ever Dream Theater fan is also a Rush fan, there are zero exceptions
Acid Rain, Another Dimension and When The Water Breaks are on this level.
didn't know weird al could play keyboard
I'd really love to hear it if he could make a parody of A Change of Seasons.
@@DiiForce Nah this one'll do. He'll call it the Temporary Dance.
An accordion is just a really short keyboard, after all

If I'm not mistaken, Jordan Rudess was the one who recorded in Metropolis Prt. 2
Yep
2:20 at 2:30... LOL

This is ragtime bb
Its hard to memorize
Best line-up

YUP
2020 still watching
Doess someone know which keyboard jordan uses in this concert?
Kurzweil 2600
the mixing in this is a lot better than the breaking the fourth wall version
Portnoy hits the best with this song

lmfao ive never seen rudess with hair, and that long hahahahaha
he looks a lot like marty friedman also hahahaha
danny carey i know your learning this right now

Movie WTF?
Rudess, even though not Italian in a mostly Italian band, does the Italian gesture: 5:02.

no idea how this showed up on my my playlist again but.... yum
Dustin Hoffman would struggle remembering these time changes…
Weird Al Yankovic on the keys 🎹
John Petrucci looks like Aragorn here
140 signature changes...... Imagine you're dancing to this sh*t till eternity
This song is so difficult to play that in the last couple of frames you could clearly see JP being like holy shit we really pulled this off
T I G H T..
Textbook execution.. progGoats
I thought the miniature was Weird Al and i believed for one second that happened...
God tier track
just fabulous

Ahh yes, John Myung playing a bass like it's supposed to be played; by plucking it, not by using a pick
Mike Foley on drums
I didn't know Wierd Al was this good on the keyboard
D'one onley best drum DT last here, best soul n progresiv pure approp with DT caracters song
Is he wearing a wig?
Nope.
Oh! A version where Dt didn't use the SNES soundbox to emulate a drum sound
Watching these guys feel myself that I can't even hold a guitar forget about playing.. 😂😆
God Myung!
Has John myung aged?
His fingers do..... He can't play the bass solo clear anymore he is sloppier now.
@@stephenm.1988 He never could play this bass solo clearly lets be honest lol.
