Could you give detail about the extent of where blurriness start without moving your head but gazing with your eye on both sides on this numeric grid? To which number at which line you start loosing crispiness? I think most of tge people would have been interrsted in that and that I will be testing myself when I buy that software.
I upgraded from the CV1 and found the sweet spot to be small and the area of focus across the FOV to be smaller. I remember that when I got my CV1 I had a similar experience, but now when I put it on I get right into the sweet spot. So, I only used the G2 for a week to get used to it like I did my CV1. When I went back to my CV1 after a week in the G2 I noticed that the G2 does have a larger sweet spot and the area of clarity is much much larger, but where it blurs on the sides is about the same. It just stands out more with such a good panel. Loving your Vids.
Really good point hope Sebastian sees this comment. If someone claims really bad sweet spot, have them Come over and with their own headset. And try The both of them in same place and give his reaction and comment.
As someone who has a tiny sweet spot on G2, only thing this video proved was that I will never trust through the lens videos again. I can only wish mine had that sort of clarity. It's a tiny spot at the center. And no, this is not my first headset and I've tried all different tricks suggested.
Same here! Most info on those channels are lacking and VR can not be presented or talked about until you put your device on your own head. It is not something that you can accurately present to other people and they will consider true. Unfortunately this is not that kind of technology. I call the sweet spot in this device on mine unit, completely BS and it is nothing like on MRTV, Tyriel Wood and others advertising channels.
The problem is not finding the sweet spot, the problem is that even when you have your eyes directly facing the sweetspot a large part of the FOV is noticeably out of focus. This happens on all headsets when you start looking at the outer edges of the lenses, but in this case it starts happening much closer to the center. I would say that with this headset things start getting out of focus when you look about 40-50% off the center, while other headsets keep the focus until around 70-80% off the center. This effect can also be seen in your video, for example at 2:09, but we can't draw conclusions without knowing the characteristics of the lens in your camera. In my case, the real problem and the reason I had to sell the Reverb G2 was not so much that I could notice the small sweetspot, but that my sight got tired very fast when I used them. Not sure if this was caused by the lenses and the small sweetspot, but it is my best guess as it never happened to me when using my Samsung Odyssey+.
It doesn't happen to me. I play all the time with Assetto Corsa Competizione 2 and all the picture is perfectly in focus for practically all the range of the FOV, it begins to blur only at the very edges. I don't know why some people have this issue but IMO it is clear at this point that's not something tied exclusively to one factor but to multiple ones, since not everyone experiences the same things.
I agree with this although the blur starts earlier, around 30% off center and is worse to the outside of the lens than the inside for me. The key point for me here is the fatigue from using it. I play a lot of sim racing and a lot of Elite Dangerous previously on OG VIVE with Gear VR lens mod. I could easily do 5-6 hours without any tiredness since doing the lens mod as the mod created a very consistent and clear image right across the lenses. The resolution is low of course, but the eyes and brain can cope much better due to the consistency. With the G2, your eyes are constantly trying to make up for the variation in clarity/blur which is exhausting.
A person said this "Bring someone in that reports a bad sweet spot, and have them test your unit! " This is a MUCH better option Sebastian! At least do ALSO this.
@@aviroblox6624I don't think you understand. I mean get the PEOPLE to HIM. Not the headsets to him. Both is good, I guess. But it would be good to see if the people who complain will react differently to his headset than their own, since they are unhappy with theirs.
@@Etheralking Yea i think if Sebastian likes the Sweetspot, he wouldnt complain about others. If there is someone who says Sebastians unit has also a small sweetspot, than its just an individual opinion and no faulty units out there.
Interesting. Initially I felt that my G2’s sweet spot was rather lacking, but after some tinkering I was able to get it much better in my opinion. First I made sure that the IPV was dialed in to my liking. Then I made sure the head strap was lower down on the back of my head, as far as it would go. Then… This is the most important part. Swing the bottom of the headset out from your face ever so much, maybe only a quarter to a half an inch. Swing only the bottom part of the headset (the bottom rim of the cheek/nose portion) pivoting it up just a bit and the sweet spot got much much better for me. Try it and let me know!
I got my G2 one week ago and I'm not happy about sweetspot after my Riff S. I also want to ask Sebastian to invite somebody who is not happy about sweetspot to check Sebastian's units. But generally I like HP Reverb G2, very crisp image, nice sound.
It could be due to Index not being as clear as G2 in the center in the first place, therefore making the transition from center to edge less dramatic compared to G2.
I purchased my HP Reverb G2 two days ago, haven't used VR since Oculus DK2 so the quality difference is spectacular. In terms of sweet spot, yes the center is crisp. Though like others have reported, the spot does feel small and the edges around it are quite noticeably blurry, to the point it is slightly distracting. Now I overcome this by moving my head as opposed to my eyes (as the DK2 trained me to do) - but I'll spend the next week trying to out different placements on my head to see if I can't improve it. I've been playing a lot of Beat Saber, and some of the boxes are a bit blurry, lets see if I can't solve this (average FPS is at least 90 for me). Update 1: It does appear that at least for me, I have to try and tilt the headset so i'm more ore less looking down slightly, and to the left. This is probably because of my head shape (which I think is normal, maybe slightly above normal? but nothing odd thats for sure). Anyway this improved the clarity a lot. TLDR - The screen pushed right into your face, strap it very tight! and adjust the angles, you'll get it! Update 2: Yep, it really is all about moving the headset around until you get it just perfect. It may take hours for you to find it, but its there, somerwhere. I have the G2, I understand why people would say the sweetspot is narrow, as it's only the absolute center that's a 100% sharp, but it slowly fades to more and more fuzzy. But honestly, the edge of the G2 lens looks about as sharp as the Quest 1 CENTER. This is basically pretty normal for all VR headsets, the G2 is just so high res that you can instantly pick up on the sweetspot dropoff. Overall the visual experience is pretty damn sharp and better than anything else. I do also notice that the stock face gasket moves my eyes too far from the lenses for max sweetspot and FOV, so I already have an odyssey+ cover coming in today as MRTV recommended
with my G2, with my eye in the sweet spot, the image is perfectly clear, but just in front of me. if i turn the pupils on the left or right, without shift my eyes, after 20° degree (roughly) the image gets really blurry. with or without gasket. Sebastian please could you let me know where to find the image with numbers of your test? Thank you
This is how Fresnel lenses work guys. There will never be a headset with such lenses with true "edge to edge" clarity. Sebastian even says this in the video.
I have another test setup: I look at some text (e.g. in a menu of a VR game), then focus my gaze on one spot (e.g. one letter), and then tilt my head left slightly left/right/up/down, while still keeping my gaze fixed on that one spot. I see blurring occur very soon, even while tilting just a tiny bit. If I would estimate the sweet spot, I'd say it's only about 4-5 degrees in size. Important note: I am talking about the absolutely sweet spot in the very middle of the picture. When I say "blurring" I mean that it's no longer 100% sharp, but however the text is still readable just fine. But comparing it to my Index, the difference in size of the sweet spot is absolutely huge. With Index I'd say the sweet spot takes up about at least 50% of the total image, with the G2 I'd say about 5%. To be fair: it could have to do with the difference in resolution and pixel density. With the G2 the resolution and density are a big step up from the Vive and even Index, and so even minor imperfections in the lenses will be more prudent on the G2. I have to say that the god rays are certainly a lot less visible than on the Index and Vive. I see some very small ones on the very edges of the picture, but that's about it. So good job there ;) But to conclude: why you see an almost perfect sweet spot and "we" don't..? I have no idea. It probably has something to do with the difference in eyes or something. Also, a camera lens is not the same as a human eye, keep that in mind.
You need to invite someone local who has reported bad sweetspot on their G2, so that you can try swapping G2's to see if the experience is different (for either of you). That would be a significantly more conclusive test, rather than you just buying a 2nd new one to try out. I suspect the difference is just face shape / varying individual pupil distance from the lens (especially with the deep G2 stock gasket). But I also think there is a chance that the early pre-orders may have had inferior lenses (I got mine delivered in November and have small sweetspot issue).
Hi Greg, 8 people from the German community who are unhappy about their G2s hm are sending them over to me these days. What I wanted to find out here is if I have better lenses than others, a golden sample. I do not and that's already good.
@@mixedrealityTV Awesome! Are any of them able to attend MRTV headquarters to also try your G2 headset on (to compare their experience)? It would be very interesting to see if they have the same bad experience in your headset! That would finally be fully conclusive.
@@gregclare @MRTV - MIXED REALITY TV That would be the conclusive way to say all headsets are the same, we are different, but you have to get the unsatisfied people using your headset
Thanks for the video Seb. I have the G2, Rift S and Quest 2. I can tell you by far the G2 is the best of them. I do notice a difference between the Rift S and Quest 2 sweet spot. The Quest 2 seems to be the best. However, the clarity is no comparison. So when everything is less sharp the sweet spot or outside the sweet spot is less noticeable since the quality is not as sharp. However when using the G2 the sweet spot is so crisp its very noticeable when I get outside of it. I think bringing the lenses closer will help as well. I am waiting on my drop in lenses before I do the mod since I wear glasses. And its out of stock at the moment anyhow. Thanks again.
I found the same thing with my CV1 rift. The "outside the sweet spot" is not as dramatic of a drop off due to the far lower initial clarity of the sweet spot.
I got mine today and i also think the sweetspot is very small, but i've never tried any vr headset before so i don't know if this counts as good. But i was also very disapointed. Can you tell me what your ipd is? Some app said mine is 58.somethingmm. i guess that's why it's blurry everywhere apart from in the middle when i have it at 60mm.
One *VERY IMPORTANT* question - what is your revision of this VR headset? Mine was rev. A - I had small sweet pot and blurry edges (very). You can check revision on box!. Please update us! Maybe Hp fixed lenses and put rev B or C now!
Just checked mine, I also have Revision A. I Think my sweetspot is really ok. I have a Big area in the middle that Covers my complete focused Vision when I look straight. When I Role my eyes around like under normal glasses it is of course more blurry but everything is still readable. I am also curious to know if that could be even better.
Sebastian: Updated: I have done analysis and close comparison to Quest 2, and have figured out the G2 sweet spot on my headset. I had to use sharp text to get a definite answer. Generally speaking, the G2 lenses have 3 zones: 1. Perfection - Very small rectangular area in the sweet spot of the lens where I try to align my pupils 2. Sweet spot - Not as clear as zone 1, but absolutely more clear than any part of the Quest 2 display. This is more than 1/2 the visible lens area on mine. 3. Blurry outer area of the fov. I don't know if through the lens comparisons can really capture zone 1, but it would definitely give the illusion of a small sweet spot to the eyes because that small area is so very sharp. Original: I have the G2. My IPD is 68, but I have no way to set it to 69. When I adjust binoculars, it is best to go past the best focal point then ease back into the perfect spot. I cannot do this with the G2. On the widest setting it usually reads in the 67-68 range. This might be the issue. Quest 2 doesn't look as clear to me at the focal point, but with the 5 mm range between settings it gives the impression of being forgiving with its sweet spot. I do use G2 Frankenfov mod to get a good fit. My G2 looks very clear in the middle but slightly less focus outside the small range (probably still as good or better than Quest 2), and the outside area is downright blurry. I noticed the ultra sharp portion to be like a long horizontal but very thin vertically shape in the lens. This sharp area is slightly above the center of the lens, and my eyes have to be above center to get acceptable focus in the surrounding area too. I like my G2 clarity but the sweet spot does not look nearly as big as what you demonstrated through the lens. One other note: the portion of the lenses at the top toward the nose permanently look rough and blurry like there are permanent smears inside. That is the same on both sides, but I don't really move my eye focus into that area as I tend to turn my head.
Sebastian, regarding what you're saying about edge to edge clarity here. Only seeing some chromatic abberation near the edges is not what most people are experiencing, so it will be really interesting to see your comparison with the other headsets that you soon will receive. It's worse than that, the sweet spot is actually so small that even looking at a line of text, a sentence, only a small portion of that text is actually very clear. Of course this may not be as noticeable when just playing a game and not focusing on text, but it is actually so blurry that it could become annoying. You're reminded of it every time you move your pupils away from the center. It doesn't sound like this is your experience with it? What about my "reading text example" - could you find a fairly long/wide piece of text in some game and perform a test? Perhaps have it centered in front of you and read it by only moving your eyes?
Same here, it's so tiny that if you are looking straight ahead at a sentence of 10 words of average size in the very center of the FOV - you can only see two words at most clearly and it's hard to even make out what the letters are at the edges. It's the worse of any headset I've ever tried, or owned (out of 9-10 of them).
I would love to see people to try "actual full games" like Skyrim VR and read books in it or at least menus ect. It is painful just to do it. Your eyes has to constantly shift focus or you move your head around all the time which leads to neck pain and headache. Text heavy games are a torture in this thing.
Another tuber commented that although the sharpness is excellent in the center of FOV, it quickly falls off (gets slightly blurry) away from the center & around the periphery
Lol, seeing this makes me think my g2 has pre-production lenses, image looks crisp on yours as far the eye can see. In my headset with the same mod, I can see 20% of the area clearly then godrays blur everything. No where near edge to edge
Same. Not a dark blue tint on the outer edges but large white smearing everywhere. But i dont know how good it would look on camera if helded right up to the screen. Our heads are different after all.
I have g1 pro v2, and for me, is exactly what MRTV is seeing, no problem what so ever with the sweet spot, and my IPD is 67, maybe the problem is the shape of the face in some people, the only people that tested my g1 was my son, a friend and direct cousin, maybe by coincidence we have the same shape, my son is only 18 years old, and have a small head compared to me, and for him, the sweet spot is fine also.
The G2 probably my 8th VR Headset and I am pretty confident I know how to set them up and wear them. I have tried it with the official gasket, it fits nicely and is comfortable and I cant get much more FOV as when I push it closer I can already see the border of the panel, my IPD is 64. I have then 3D printed the modded gasket and it also does not help with the lenses, they are worse than the Oculus lenses for sure not only the sweetspot but also in edge clarity. The G2 needs something like FFR, we cant really take advantage of the higher resolution at the edges of the FOV anyway, but we need to render them which takes a huge hit on performance.
Exactly my thoughts. This device will tax your hardware like crazy for no reason. Clarity and this ultra res experience is only on 10% of the screen. The rest is a blurry mess and your gear, eyes and stomach will have to pay for it anyway ;)
I had the same idea with my Samsung Odissey Plus. I had pain in my nose for a couple of weeks. I prefer to wear it right way, but really you can get more sweet spot as you said. Maybe in G2 this is a good option.
I own the G2 and I think G2 owners are getting "sweet spot" confused with "edge to edge clarity". My G2 has a decent sweet spot but when I move my eye away from the center of the screen the image gets blurred, its not that but but definately not as crisp and sharp as the center. I think some were expecting a better edge to edge clarity like the Index
Yep, me too. The position of G2 must fit perfect in the Center. If not, I see blurries. Flying A320 I see suddenly this. For simulation no problems here, but games with fast head movenent could have a problem.
Love your videos thanks. I bought my G2 based a lot on your reviews and my son has a quest 2. When I received my G2 I started to use it in simulators and couldn’t understand why the dials were blurry. Then I put my glasses on and discovered it was pin sharp. Lesson learnt the fault wasn’t with the G2 it was my eyesight!
First of all, thank you so much for taking time to do this. However the "position" explanation is simply not correct. I've been in VR since 2016 and tried different headsets and the only reason I returned the G2 was because of the sweetspot early falloff. Finding the sweetspot is not an issue, it's how quickly it blurs. I tried EVERYTHING. Removing the insert, adjusting it back and forth. No good. There simply HAVE to be bad units out there. I have the Quest 2 as well and although not as pinsharp in the middle, it is more consistent and using it in flightsims is night and day difference. As other mentioned...someone should test that other unit. Someone who has a bad unit themselves.
Hello, you mean you find Quest 2 better for flight sims? To read gauges or screen you have to put them at the very center of the screen on the G2 and not on the Quest 2? I am waiting for my G2 mainly to use it in MSFS and AFS2 and I am starting to wonder whether I should not switch to a Q2...
I had the Acer VR, Odyssey+ and HP G1. Acer VR had the smallest sweetspot, but it was also not bad. Personally th G2 in that matter is comparable to G1 or Odyssey+, my IPD is 63mm. Icant say its edge-to-edge, but its very good, however i was also the one who claimed the sweetspot of G1 is good. I have also noticed the best for me is IPD around 66mm and slidingto the higher IPD i am receving the slightly better FOV (around 2-3 degrees on TestHMD). The best FOV is on 68 of course but then i am loosing a bit of sharpness so i kept around 66.5. FOV what i have is 99-100 and when i remove the gasket entirely the max what i can see is 101. Default face gasket i perfect for me, i have the small head.
Problem fixed (for glass wearers): until two days ago I was completely in agreement with people here about the very small sweet spot and how bad it was when you looked slightly off the center of the sweet spot. Was very frustrated (also have Index /OQ1 and had Samsung Odyssey before) with this fuzzy image out of the dead center of sweet spot on the HP G2. Yesterday I got my Lens Adapters from WidmoVR and problem gone almost entirely - it barely bothers me now. So my conclusion is that when you are wearing glasses both sweet spots have to align perfectly. If you look left/right without moving your head there is a bigger distortion due to the space between glasses and the HP lenses in order not to be touching or they’ll scratch. With the lens adapters there is no space in between - so I suggest you get those . 90% of the problem gone and yes still a bit distortion but minimal - and more of a natural distortion similar to when you do that with glasses outside VR anyway.
@@xKenn hi. Had the first version. Sold it already and kept Index. Problem with WmR are the controllers. Oculus is a much better platform and now you can run many PC VR games on it with a feature called AirLink - wirelessly.
Very easy to find the sweetspot on my G2 but after finding it only the part right in front of me is clear. So I have to stare all the time the second I use my eyes even a tiny bit it's not clear anymore. The face gasket fits like a glove for my face. I'm still looking for a Dutch G2 owner with a "good" one to see for myself.
So I have had my G2 for nearly a month now. I need to do a follow up video, as I gave honest but quite negative comments in my first impressions video. I want to have a real good test with my new PC which is not finished yet, as I'm waiting for my very overdue Ryzen 9 5900x, as I want to see how much it improves fps. My experience with the sweet spot is that it is very easy to find and locate every time, its just that its quite small. My issue is that everything within the sweet spot is crystal clear, where as everything outside of the sweet spot is not. My very first experience with the headset in the cliff house, I instantly noticed the difference of the graphics in both areas. The only way that I can explain it is to say that within the sweet spot its rendered at 100% where as outside its 95%. To explain this even further, my first experience of the headset was with Assetto Corsa, the clearest VR racing game that I own. I was sat in the R34 GTR and the steering wheel, arms, gloves and the instruments were the best I have ever seen in VR. Then I glanced at the centre console digital display with my eyes and it was not clear at all. When I turned my head and looked at it, it was instantly sharp. I'm not going to lie, I found this really disappointing, as I was expecting the same clarity across most of the headset as this is a 4k display. My previous headsets that I have used have been the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift, I bought the rift as I don't like the Vive wands. When using the Oculus Rift even though its much lower quality, I have never noticed there be a difference in the image across the viewable headset. But to be fair, after testing with a lot more games and sim's, I have to say that this issue varies wildly, and really depends on the graphics of the game\sim. Some things have softer graphics and text fonts and don't look so bad. Where as anything with ultra high quality and sharp text and fonts its very noticeable. Regarding how the lenses work, maybe my expectations were too high, but I'm only going on my previous VR experience. I think the only logical reason people are experiencing differences, could be face shape as mentioned and distance from the lenses. I think quality of vision and experience of high resolution displays, also plays a big part. The problem with higher resolution headsets, is that because of how clear the display is, its really going to highlight the slightest imperfections. If you are perceptible to these or not depends on what your used to. If you have got a 1080p display and have only ever played at 1080p, the G2 is going to look amazing. If you have a 4K display and get the G2 its not going to look any where near as good as your 4K display for example.
AC, is not good at VR?! The best racing VR games, are AMS2 and Pcars2 ( because of graphics) with a close second, rfactor2, for me of course. Even RR is better than AC in VR.
@@pedroferrr1412 IMO Asseto Corsa is the clearest 4K VR game I have personally played, because of the low over head and max settings. Project Cars 2 is fuzzy and distant objects are not clear as stated in my video. Not delved into AMS2 as it’s still a work in progress, I’ll wait till it’s finished product. Obviously my impressions may change with the new pc and GPU, but it’s still a paper pc atm, due to delays.
@@HlspwnsWorld Just put steam VR at 100%, and MSAA at high, the rest at low or medium, no SS in the engine itself. With rfactor 2 and RR I use steam VR at 170%, and some things at high others at low. So my experience, is just the opposite of yours.
I know VR. I have 6 headsets. I know sweet spots, getting the lenses close to your eyes on the correct plane, etc, etc ,etc. My G2 sweetspot was about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. Pitiful. Returned.
My Sweetspot is about 30 % percent of The lenses, and then gradually gets blurrier. But since i look mostly where i need to see i see crisp image. BUT The other thing i notice is if i remove The face gasket and get even closer to lenses i dont gain at all in The sweet spot area, so The lens really has to be different from Sebastians if he get clear image from edge to edge looking around with hos eyes in it. And IF that is The case HP need to fix New lenses and send out to costumers or maybe we should just link this video and return our headsets?
I noticed the same thing. Removing the face gasket and getting my eyes as close as possible to the lenses improved the FOV but not the sweetspot, still tiny. I returned my G2 :(
@@Mustis1524 If I go to the Steam home room, my sweetspot is around the size of 1 game box, then looking from the spawn position. Everything around that 1 box is blurry. (My IPD is 59.5)
When i try to take a picture though my lens, finding my sweetspot is fairly difficult. And i have to adjust my headset a lot. Your sweetspot looks much better than mine.
I tryed for the first time record through the lens on my Quest 2. It has nothing to do at all what you experience with your eyes when headset is on. Test like this can be used when comparing different Headsets but not to show how it will look when you have it on your face.
Great video Sebastian. HP are swapping my unit as the sweet spot is very “fussy”, I feel like I am constantly having to adjust the the position in order to get a clear picture ahead. When I get the right spot, only straight ahead is sharp. I’ll let you know if the replacement is any different, otherwise will have to try the mod you suggested. Can we upgrade the lenses to better quality ones??
I've got to be doing something wrong then as the G2 with the normal face part doesn't have a great sweet spot in DCS for me. Matter of fact when setting up the cockpit I MUST look at the switches or MFD to see it clearly. If I look forward and only move my eyes to a switch the clarity is much worse than the Rift S that I was using. But obviously if I look directly at said switch then it is better than the Rift S.
Nah, your are doing everything right. I bought it to try flight sim as well and have the same experience with DCS and every other game. This device is designed this way or we all have flawed units and HP doesn't want to admit it.
Seb, you need to define what sweet spot means or what you mean by "sweet spot". Many people use that term differently as you know. Sweet spot vs the box, etc. For me the area of greatest clarity is in the direct center, and VERY SMALL... what I perceive to be around 5x5 mm while wearing the headset. Out side of this spot, everything begins to blur increasingly to the edge. For a good experience, I cannot move my eyes around to look at things at all, I have to turn my entire head. Is it like that for you?
I have the G2 and feel it's not 100%. I would suggest you setup a standardized test that your viewers can perform, then collate all our reported data. Like an at home test
Its my first vr headset, so I can't give my opnion comparing it to others. However, I can say that the sweet spot is not as good as I expected, it doesn't look like yours in the video. I would say that the sweet spot fades out after about 30° from the center. I would definently not consider it edge to edge clarity in any form. I have and RMA out for my sticking thumbstick, but I dont know if I should also return the headset due to this.
OMG, I'm in the same boat as you, poor sweet spot, and bad thumb stick, with a case in with Hp. Return all now for a full refund or wait and HP will replace the controller in April!
I was wondering why when I first used the HP Reverb G2 is this normal to be blurry around the center of the lenses. Kind of disappointed that there is not a sweet spot in any direction. Overall, thank f*** for that for all headsets being the same as what a waste of time to wait all the time for something that is different from VR headset to VR headset. You have said that one test is not a accurate test. I am still to test my VR headset as I not satisfied with the sharpness. One other thing that threw me was the fact that the resolution looked very low when I first tried it on. I found a setting in Windows 10 for the HP Reverb G2 that allows you to change the resolution to best quality.
For my fellow AMD colleagues: I recently groomed my PC a little. Installed the latest drivers (chipset, gpu and all the shebang) and also activated "Virtual Super Resolution" in the Radeon settings. Everything looks SO much better now in the G2, the sweet spot is much bigger and you can actually look around. Total game changer for me.
Overall I don’t lie the sweet spot with the G2 and edge to edge clarity is the worst I have ever had in any HMD that I have owned. I tried the mod and it helps with the FOV but getting the right tilt of the headset and dialed into the sweet spot is such a pain just to get it passable I am just kind of waiting for something better to come out so I can get into VR again.
Same here. But my ipd is 70 and the G2 only goes up to 68. That's probably the reason why, for me anyway. It would be very helpful if everyone with a lousy sweet spot would also list their ipd.
Yes we have different lenses. I can only look dead straight through the headset to have a clear area, any eye movement away from this point will blur or have bad chromatic aberations. What you do at 4:51 moving throughout the lens, I can't do in the slightest. Both my eyes are looking through the sweet spot so its not an IPD issue. I have tried all sort of postisions with and without the face gasket, I even tried with one eye only. I even put my eye so close that my eyelashes were touching the lens and when I blinked my eyelids touched the lens. I should state how big the area that is clear when looking into the sweetspot, I would say about the size of the back of a pencle placed on the lens. Result: HP confirmed you should be able to move your eyes and still see clear, they said my lenses were faulty and I refunded the headset as finding a non faulty one while still so many bad lens reports are current would be a gamble.
Mine is nowhere near as good as that and quite honestly I'm getting sick of people telling me "I'm doing it wrong". I've been a VR user since the DK2. With one eye closed (removes IPD) and the gasket removed (removes head shape), I can position my vision to get the PERFECT clarity in the middle. Sweet spot is STILL tiny. It's not IPD and it's not head shape. It MAY be something else but I'm certainly not wearing it wrong.
Totally agree. I think the notion that it might be related to how sharp one can see might be a factor. If your eyesight isn't all that good, you can't see very sharp and you won't notice the small sweet spot. Retina resolution differs from person to person.
@@hapskie My eyesight is not good (51 years old) but i don´t need glass in VR. My son eyesight is perfect, he uses a lenovo, but told me that almost never use it, after been using my headset, cannot go to the lenovo.
@@pedroferrr1412 I've not had my G2 fog because I do active games in Quest 2 and use G2 seated. It has blur outside the sweet spot when I first pick it up. I took photos of the lenses so I could look more closely and I see scuffs in the same place on both lenses, as if some grit was in the machine when they came off the line. I am sure it came from the factory that way because it was there from the moment I first put on the headset. It doesn't have much effect on my usage but it does prove that there is some issue in the process.
How do you change the IPD accurately? When I use the slider, it skips every few mm and then the number briefly appears. The number doesn't stay visible as I move the slider.
didn't u say you were gonna test a unit sent by a viewer that was supposedly defective? what is the purpose of buying a brand new one, where there is a 95+ percent chance that it already has a good sweetspot? ( as only a few percent of the owners claim they have this issue)
i send my G2 to Sebastian tomorrow and "only a few percent of the owners claim they have this issue") in the German computerbase-forum there are many with this problem there are more complaining about it, than there are liking it
@@Kraeuterbutter Nice to know; also, you're much more likely to make 'noise' if you have a problem; if the headset works as intended no one is just making a post about it on reddit; I would be surprised if actually 2-3% of the units would be faulty
@@pedroferrr1412 @dreamer you are right, people with problems make more noise int eh forums but in this particular situation: i know the VR community in the german forum for 4 years now, since the vive-time many are there, since the vive so these are not new people to me who speak out in the forum because of a problem i know them for years now some of them even returend the G2 because of that bad E2EC many have problems there are fewer which say they are satisfied with the size of the sharpness-sweetspot any even lesser (2-3) that say it was great so the consens in the forum is: size of the sweetspot where you see sharp is small i have to say: since is modded my G2 for more FOV the size of the sweetspot also increased.. its still not good but its not THAT bad anymore.. i also considered to return my G2 before that now i will keep it (i have also Quest1, Quest2 and Index)
I get about 20 degrees of real clarity, but beyond that everything becomes quickly blurry. Its really bad , but not sure if I can still return it because 2 weeks just passed
The sweetspot can´t be everyones mainproblem! I ordered "my" G2 in the first week of september, a week after heart surgery, when I knew I would be around to be able to use it. I am still waiting for it. The latest bid for a deliverydate is the end of January 2021. This is the fourth or so delivery date update. I held off from playing Half Life Alyx and a lot of games in my Cosmos headset. But after that last delivery update in november I sort of gave up. I really have a pretty good experience of my Vive Cosmos and I decided to play HL Alyx. It really was fantastic. Then I went for Rouge Squadron, another game I have been "saving" for my HP G2. Great experience again in the Cosmos. From the beginning of november until now I have played a lot of VR-games and I really think I have found a kind of sweetspot with the resolution in my Cosmos and the playability with my 1080 Nvidia card. The first game that finally tax my current gpu in VR is MS Flightsimulator 2020. Of course, I pre ordered an Asus TUF 3080 card as soon as it was possible. That card is currently set to arrive in the end of march 2021. But who knows? There might be 4080 cards announced by the time I get delivery. I am actually thinking more and more about just keeping my cosmos. My only problems have been getting warm from wearing the headset during long sessions, and playing games where you shoot with a bow and pull the string (and one controller) close to your face. That throws off the tracking of the controller but I can live with that. Everything else works great and I have about 20 VR-games that all plays great except that one bow-game. At this point I have bought and played all the VR-games I was curious about. I am sorry to say that all these videos about the HP reverb G2 is starting to annoy me. How can seemingly everyone else get their headsets? Your positive videos got me to try VR at all for which I am grateful! But now I will stop viewing. By the time I get my headset and GPU It will probably be replaced by a new model from HP anyway.
I had a rift cv1 with 3 tracking stations. I am here to say I concur with everything you have experienced. Absolutely amazing visuals and I for myself even after my previous headset had absolutely perfect tracking the g2 is absolutely acceptable for me and brings so much more joy than pain.
Thats a good video and explanations. I wanted to follow up on your FrankenFOV / Increase FOV mods. I find it fiddly to get the correct clarity with the OEM faceplate and and lenses. I did the velour FrankenFOV mod and immediately without any changes noticed a very large increase in FOV and also a bigger sweet spot and edge to edge clarity, however with the velour mask my eyelashes were touching the lenses and so this led to some discomfort. The velour face mask I think is narrower than the Leather version so I will first try doubling them up and then order the Leather one and give it a try to see if that still gives the increases described above.
UPDATE: Today a installed the 2 velour VR Cover face pads to my G2 holding them together with 2 sided tape. It is very comfortable and I do get a very noticeable increase in FOV with great edge to edge clarity, a very generous sweet spot and no eyelashes touching the lenses..
There is variety between the sets: first set I received wasn’t really clear yet since I didn’t have any experience with VR I kept it. After a week the headset appeared faulty - there was a blue vertical line displayed at all times. So I gave it back and claimed the new one. The one I got was much, much clearer than the first one. Also I had the impression that the first headset was overall flimsier and IPD adjustment knob was really loose. The one I have now is just much better than the first one I got.
I just used a Quest 2 yesterday and it's "sweet spot" is WAY bigger than my g2. I also owned a CV1 and it's sweet spot was also much bigger. In both the CV1 and Quest 2 I didn't even notice a "sweet spot" only that the very far edges were blurry. On the G2, it's immediately apparent! Really blurry just slightly off center and extremely blurry at the far edges. I have noticed that removing the facial interface and getting closer helps a lot. I do love the sharpness, speakers, and comfort. I'm keeping mine and hoping for some nice aftermarket facial interfaces that are not as deep... also hoping someone makes new controllers lol.
I have owned a CV1, Explorer, Odyssey+, G1, G2. The G2 has a smaller sweet spot than all of them. It has worse god rays than the G1, though not as bad as the Odyssey+. The blur outside of the sweet spot is perhaps worse than all as well. I returned my G2 and went back to the G1. For iRacing and Elite Dangerous, I believe the G1 is the best headset on the market, though I did prefer the G2 for Half Life Alyx.
My G2 is horrible with the sweet spot. Not only that but it is off center to the bottom of the lenses so I have to put it way up on my face to find it. Also regardless of IPD I have a very difficult time getting both eyes lined up at the same time. I have had the DK1, DK2, Rift, and CV1 before this, and hundreds of hours in VR. I have never had an issue with eye strain or headache in VR. In DCS I could go all day with the Rift S. I cant go 20 min with my new G2 in DCS without my head hurting, regardless of position, or IPD settings. Mine is nothing like what I am seeing here. I have tried it with the stock gasket, and the FrankenFOV mod. I am going to RMA mine when stocks resupply, and I truly hope my next one is better. But I also have issues with my left ear audio cutting out with head movement, even with reseating it. Its such an unpleasant experience, I dont even want to play DCS anymore. I am seriously thinking about going back to my Rift S until I can get this sorted with the G2. Good news is when it works, the audio is fantastic! Edit: Just writing this and thinking about wearing it, makes my left eye hurt.
It's exactly like CPU's. You need to be lucky. Some lens are good, other very bad ... You can test two and just have luck two times. And the price is absolutly too high for a very little difference with the quest 2.

I mean no offense but I know someone who returned one and got another and the sweet spots were different, I also had 3 Quest 2's, only one had a good sweet spot, I think its a production issue on these new ones, My CV1 was clearer then some Quest 2's I used, for real, macro-defects are happening on some, it's been discussed and confirmed on the Quest 2, I expect the same to be true when people start shipping you bad ones. Looking forward to that video for sure.
New to VR, so far on G2 without optimized settings no issues other than the Steam home stutter. Through my rookie eyes clear everywhere. I have nothing to compare to but very impressed with clarity. Using new build I9-10850k not overclocked yet with GSkill Royal 3600 (14, 16, 16, 16) 16gb, Asus ROG Maximus Hero XII Wi-Fi. Amazed at performance on G2 so far with under powered RTX 2060 so far.
I got it from bestware.com(pre-ordered in July) and am one of those that get very narrow sweet spot: It's very clear in the centre, but everything beyond 10 degrees(rough estimation) gets blurry quickly. Tried almost everything what people recommended including, bringing the lenses closer, setting SS in SteamVR to 100% etc. I'm about to return the headset, but still hope there is a solution. Maybe when you get headsets from community it will be sorted out somehow.
I own the G2 and I noticed that positioning is very important. Not only height on my face but also the angle at which it sits. If the angle is wrong the sweat spot seems very small. I found that opening fpsVr and then looking at text while adjusting the angle of the headset works very well. Personally I feel that even a slight tilt offset makes a big difference on the clarity. In all cases the center seems clear enough to me but the edges vary a lot, not sure if it's my bad eyes though....
great video. Was expecting a different outcome tbh. But I'm still having a blast with my G2. I think the issue most people have is really looking out of the sweetspot, while the sweetspot itself is crystal clear. Looking forward to your review of the user headsets
Was kinda worried when you said that you will do this video, as I ordered G2 in December. But good to know that lenses are the same! I will receive my G2 in mid to end of January so I will report back when I get it!

i wonder if those with a sweetspot issue is more to do with their IPD. I personally do struggle to get a clear view in the G2 - although with enough fiddling about i eventually get where i need to be. It's worth mentioning i wear glasses too - probably doesn't help. I'm fairly sure my IPD is right on the bottom range.
Ok, this pretty much confirms it - it seems like you and Tyriel and some other bigger youtubers don't notice the extra clarity in the very centre for about 10-20 degrees, compared to it becoming slightly less clear for the next 40 or so degrees, then after that out to the edges it is more blurry. It is surprising that so many of us in the comments do notice it though
@@frederikgoogel5611 - imagine if HP made new lenses for it, with the same clarity in the middle over the whole display - what an amazing headset. I have no problems with the sweet spot. I was used to the one of the Rift S and I see no difference (naturally since the G2 is much more clear on the sweet spot you will notice more the difference between the edges and the center if you put your attention on it, but as far as the range distance between when the picture is totally in focus and when it begins to blur then they are practically the same, actually a little better with the G2). Overall I'm totally happy with the headset and a definite upgrade for Sim Racing.
Absolutely excellent information sir! I was riveted to find out if there was going to be a difference and I'm so glad to learn from you that there is not! So I'm going to try and get one! Thank you for your excellent information and video of how it actually looks! Keep doing a great job and be safe over there!
isnt the sweet spot easier to find when youre eye would be directly on the lens? when normally wearing the headset, your eyes stay a bit further from the lens, so the sweet spot is smaller. :/
Received my pre-order in the US IN Dec. Coming from the Rift CV1, the image quality is much improved and I can't remember if the sweet spot is different. Tracking is good, but I do lose tracking in beat saber menu and sometimes during play so I feel that is not as good as the Rift. I also received prescription lenses from widmovr which dramatically improved image quality/sweet spot/ chromatic aberration in comparison to wearing glasses with the G2.
Your results are the same as mine; I got mine from Connection in December. The more likely problem than the crazy conspiracy theory that HP is changing out lenses, is that people are likely either not wearing the headset properly or maybe they have a head shape that the G2 doesn't seat very well. I say this because I didn't adjust mine properly at first and my image was constantly going out of focus. When fitting the back of the headset brace to the bottom of the back of my head I had to go much lower than my other VR headsets . Once I got the fit right, the G2's got clarity for days - clear image no matter where I look with my eyes or turn my head. Completely changed the G2 experience for me.
@@NoobSaibotVII Ya, the cable and usb connection, It has the same with the first g1 pro, I had to RMA my cable and my headset, received a G1 pro V2, and a new cable. It was a month ago, until now, everything is working properly, with a great swetspoot, like what you see in MRTV clip.

I think my big problem with my HP Reverb G2 is that I can't quite get the lens distance to be good...even at the smallest distance between lenses, I think it's like 60mm? I feel like I can see something in my peripheral vision that is distracting and the space in the middle is also distracting, it makes it feel like the image doesn't combine into the best image...I'm trying out the FrankenFOV mod and will let everyone know what happens...

I'm rather disheartened, as I put my headset on today, to find it had strange flickering in my peripheral vision. Have tried updating drivers, Changing refresh rates from 60-90-auto, from max resolution to automatic & back, turned down my desktop resolutions- checked cable connection to headset & computer, still flickers. Did have an insanely bright glow around the edges of the panels in the headset at first too- but those went away after the first restart.
VR NEWS NVIDIA Zeroing In On ‘Root Cause’ Of RTX Frame Drop Issue HARRY BAKER JANUARY 08, 2021 Has your NVIDIA RTX graphics card been dropping frames in VR? NVIDIA provided comment on its progress resolving an issue that sees RTX cards drop frames in VR when using recent versions of its graphics card drivers. According to reports from users across the NVIDIA forums and Reddit, the issue is ongoing and has yet to be resolved. It is difficult to nail down exactly which hardware and headsets are affected, as the issue is still being worked on, but the problem seems to involve (but may not be limited to) NVIDIA’s 20 and 30-series RTX cards when used with SteamVR. Many reports indicate that the issue occurs with the Valve Index, but users have also reported that other headsets like the HP Reverb G2 are affected as well. The issue has been present for around 3 months, since the NVIDIA driver version 456.71. Previously in November, NVIDIA confirmed on the forums that the problem had been reproduced and the team was working on a resolution. No updates had been given since then, until this week when NVIDIA commented on the forums and provided an update: “Yesterday some progress was made in identifying the root cause. Our software team is confirming this so I don’t want to overstate the findings but it is good news. Isolating the root cause has been challenging and I do apologize for the delay.” We’ll have updates as soon as we hear a timeline for when a potential fix or driver update might arrive for users affected by the issue.
I really don’t like my G2. In fact I kinda hate it. I constantly lose tracking whenever I remove the HMD. All I’m doing is sitting in a simulator. The sweet spot sucks for me as well as the fov. I can’t use the built in headphones cause I can hear my simulator making noise. Trying to get it running good across all my sim titles with an 8700k and 2080ti isn’t very easy.

Also my unit did not include the two controllers. Can I purchase them as extras to my unit or not? Many thanks. Warren Goyne - NZ
I can't compare to other headsets but all I can say is that G2 really shines at default 100% Steam resolution (3100x3100). Is it an upscaling bug? I don't know but that's when the clarity is best, the sweet spot is large and the visuals are photorealistic almost edge to edge. The problem is that even 5600X/32GB/RTX3070 can't handle it at 90Hz in MSFS which is my main interest, hence we all have to lower the res. by 50% and degrade the visuals to make it playable...30fps could be fine in 2D but not in VR at least withouth any reprojection features turned on.Hard reality guys!
I'm waiting to see his comparison of a couple headsets from people in Germany who said their sweetspot was bad and are shipping their headsets to him. This looks promising at least though

Hi i have a question for G2 owner ^^, i try to binding : re mapping on a lot of gamme and not work ... For example on BOneworks i can select a user config and its work perfectly BUT on a looot of other game like Rick & Morty or Game on Revive it's impossible ... and when i try to do it my self doesn't work... So if someone can help and if MRTV have solution or video about binding on G2 ^^ Thaanks !
This is another phenomenal thing you won't here from any channel. The controllers are total junk and often they do not work properly with steam VR and steam games to the point they are game breaking because you wan't be able to perform actions game expect you to do! I had this issue with Skyrim VR. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it is exactly like you said, everything is F... and you have completely no idea WTF is going on or why game that worked yesterday doesn't work anymore. If your controllers are off while you start the game or battery runs out in the middle, there is a chance that steam VR or game(i can not confirm) will change binding to the controllers with touchpads! Your bindings in steam VR may stay the same but in game you actually can see that the game requires you to do for example touchpad left/right/up/down action. You have to go to steam VR, to controller setup and change to something else, reboot the game(maybe steam VR) and then change back to HP controllers configuration(reboot again). Best idea is to choose one of community config for the game if it exist. Always keep them on while you start the game! Do not ask me does it work all the time because i have completely no clue. I just know that this equipment and software is total junk and does that in a random occasions.
And all influensor and personnality just use valve controler... i can understand is better solution .. but i dont want a solution who was .. buy other product so if people like MRTV can speak about this it will be awesome !
I have a Reverb G2. I wear glasses normally but do not when I wear a hmd. I mostly blame the image clarity on that. What is the test environment you are using? Is it a free application on steam?
i think it has to do with the distance of the eye to the lens (the eye relief). Everyone's eye distance will different from the lens. At the optimal distance, it will create a bigger the sweet spot. Perhaps the optics of the G2 is especially sensitive to the eye relief distance. Rifle scopes, for example, is one type of product where it is very desirable to have an eye relief range that is large to produce the clearest sight picture so that you don't have to hold the scope at the exact distance from your eyes every time you go to aim and shoot. Every scope is different in this respect, so it could be the same issue for the G2 in relation to other headsets.
Getting closer to the lenses does absolutely nothing for me (and others) regarding sweet spot, it stays the same. Getting closer only increases the FOV a little bit.
I came from the Rift CV, and the Quest 1. I would say the Quest 1 has a better sweetspot and better optical clarity than the G2, but more godrays. But it also has lower resolution and higher contrast due to the OLED displays. It's hard to pinpoint the exact difference as I lent the Quest to my nephew the same day the G2 arrived... But the first feeling I had as I put the G2 on was "Is there fog on the inside of the lens?"
Thank you for this video. I'm still awaiting my g2 and was considering cancelling. This has provided some reassurance that coming from an original vive willi still be a big improvement.
Which test is it that you are using from the ROV Test tool? I didn't find these numbered squares in the SteamVR "ROV Test FOV & Resolution" environment nor did I see them in screen shots of the standalone version of the tool (testhmd). *EDIT*: In case anybody else is looking for it, I finally found the white-on-black numbered board that Sebastion is using in this G2 sweet spot video. If you purchase the stand-alone version of testhmd (from the developer of the rov tool), which I did for the minimum $3.99 plus $1 extra for the developer, then you can download three different revs or versions. In the "testhmd_win_1.2_Calibrated_Dec_2020" version, the sweet spot test station uses those numbered squares. In the other versions, the sweet spot station is concentric circles. Note that running the testhmd "stand-alone" version still requires you to run SteamVR. In the case of my headset (Oculus Rift S), I just run the executable and put on my headset. In the case of a WMR headset, I guess it gets a little more complicated. Help can be found in the discussion posts on the download page for testhmd.
Do you own the G2? Did you make similar experiences like me about the sweetspot? What headset did you use before?
Are you still going to test the units from the german viewers, who sent their g2s to you?
Edit: watched the end
Could you give detail about the extent of where blurriness start without moving your head but gazing with your eye on both sides on this numeric grid? To which number at which line you start loosing crispiness? I think most of tge people would have been interrsted in that and that I will be testing myself when I buy that software.
Hey Sebastian, can I buy the second unit from you? I just can’t buy it in my country.

Same here
Same, unfortunately. This test says nothing. Seb needs to get someone in there with a G2 that has a small sweet spot then compare.
Same here! Most info on those channels are lacking and VR can not be presented or talked about until you put your device on your own head. It is not something that you can accurately present to other people and they will consider true. Unfortunately this is not that kind of technology.
I call the sweet spot in this device on mine unit, completely BS and it is nothing like on MRTV, Tyriel Wood and others advertising channels.
same, sweetspot is bit dissapointing, weakest thing on g2 next to blacks
@@TheAmbasadaRecords That's racist!
I agree, except that it happens way earlier than 40-50% off center. On my headset i'd say it gets noticeable as early as say 20%.
"
This is a MUCH better option Sebastian! At least do ALSO this.

This is my exact experience! I found it helps to look at text while adjusting so you can really tell the difference. I use fpsVr to adjust.
@@martinlevac3759 I just googled FpsVR. Thx for the info, this should be helpful!
The rifts has amazing lenses, way better than the G2. The only headset I tried that has better lenses than the rifts is the valve index

Thank you
I have the same issue. Im not sure how Sebastian is able to get edge to edge clarity like this.
Same here

So good job there ;)
But to conclude: why you see an almost perfect sweet spot and "we" don't..? I have no idea. It probably has something to do with the difference in eyes or something. Also, a camera lens is not the same as a human eye, keep that in mind.
agree about 5% sweetspot
I wear glasses, but never needed them in VR. With glasses i cannot focus, without them, like MRTV.
I just received mine yesterday and I have this exact problem. My sweet spot is tiny, almost unusable. Very disappointed.
Sebastian:
Updated:
I have done analysis and close comparison to Quest 2, and have figured out the G2 sweet spot on my headset. I had to use sharp text to get a definite answer.
Generally speaking, the G2 lenses have 3 zones:
1. Perfection - Very small rectangular area in the sweet spot of the lens where I try to align my pupils
Original:
I have the G2.
I have a 90 degree fov with a 10 degree sweetspot. Mine is not just less clear out side of the sweet spot, it is like looking threw Bubble's glasses.
totaly agree with u
This
Same here, it's so tiny that if you are looking straight ahead at a sentence of 10 words of average size in the very center of the FOV - you can only see two words at most clearly and it's hard to even make out what the letters are at the edges.
Text heavy games are a torture in this thing.
i found placing the back strap as far down as it would go makes a big difference
Yeah mines the same... Very disappointing.. mine is certainly not as clear as his.
60hrz or 90 ?
@@leshkraven 90, problem is no HZ but lenses. Godrays
Hmm interesting. I tried without face gasket though, just holding it in all kinds of positions and could still never get the sweet spot to widen.
The tilt of the headset makes a huge difference to the sweetspot. I found that tilting it down works best for me.
I noticed the same. Apparently my cheekbones are too big and my forehead too small ;P
I had the same idea with my Samsung Odissey Plus.
I had pain in my nose for a couple of weeks.
I prefer to wear it right way, but really you can get more sweet spot as you said.
Maybe in G2 this is a good option.
An HP rep on Reddit said the back of the headset should sit low & cradle the occipital lobe (the bump on the back of your head)
Yes!! Definitely
I noticed the same!!
Edge to edge clarity doesn’t mean edge to edge sweet spot.
Love your videos thanks. I bought my G2 based a lot on your reviews and my son has a quest 2. When I received my G2 I started to use it in simulators and couldn’t understand why the dials were blurry. Then I put my glasses on and discovered it was pin sharp. Lesson learnt the fault wasn’t with the G2 it was my eyesight!
glasses for long or short sighted? I got some reading glasses that gave me good up close vision but they made it worse.
Same, it has a 90 degree fov, and a 10 degree area you can actually see.
Pitiful. Returned.
Same feelings.
Oh boy that's gonna be a hell lot of fun :))
I noticed the same thing. Removing the face gasket and getting my eyes as close as possible to the lenses improved the FOV but not the sweetspot, still tiny. I returned my G2 :(
@@radicalturkey Yeah, I'd estimate my sweetspot to around the size of a sheet of A4 paper at an arms length away from my eyes, tops.

An HP rep on Reddit said the back of the headset should sit low & cradle the occipital lobe (the bump on the back of your head)
I've had an excellent sweet spot right out of the box.
You get a replacement?
For that reason, I am still waiting for our wonderful HP REVERB G2. Once again MRTV, congratulations on your dedication to your channel.
Save yourself the headache and money. Sooooooo many people can’t be wrong, sweet spot is soooo tiny it’s ridiculous.
Is it like that for you?
same
I have the G2 and feel it's not 100%.
Return all now for a full refund or wait and HP will replace the controller in April!
my sweet spot is not that good if my headset moves a millimeter I have to find it again.
Overall I don’t lie the sweet spot with the G2 and edge to edge
clarity is the worst I have ever had in any HMD that I have owned. I tried the
mod and it helps with the FOV but getting the right tilt of the headset and
dialed into the sweet spot is such a pain just to get it passable I am just kind of waiting for something better to come out so I can get into VR again.
This!!!

I am sure it came from the factory that way because it was there from the moment I first put on the headset. It doesn't have much effect on my usage but it does prove that there is some issue in the process.
My sweet spot is also very narrow.. I feel everything is a little blurry. Not as crisp as yours.
How do you change the IPD accurately? When I use the slider, it skips every few mm and then the number briefly appears. The number doesn't stay visible as I move the slider.
Look in WMR settings when using the slider it shows the value in real time
didn't u say you were gonna test a unit sent by a viewer that was supposedly defective? what is the purpose of buying a brand new one, where there is a 95+ percent chance that it already has a good sweetspot? ( as only a few percent of the owners claim they have this issue)
i send my G2 to Sebastian tomorrow
and "only a few percent of the owners claim they have this issue") in the German computerbase-forum there are many with this problem
there are more complaining about it, than there are liking it
@@Kraeuterbutter Nice to know; also, you're much more likely to make 'noise' if you have a problem; if the headset works as intended no one is just making a post about it on reddit; I would be surprised if actually 2-3% of the units would be faulty
@@Kraeuterbutter Maybe because like in everything, if you are good, you don´t feel the need to say something.
@@pedroferrr1412 @dreamer
you are right, people with problems make more noise int eh forums
but in this particular situation: i know the VR community in the german forum for 4 years now, since the vive-time
many are there, since the vive
so these are not new people to me who speak out in the forum because of a problem
i know them for years now
some of them even returend the G2 because of that bad E2EC
many have problems
there are fewer which say they are satisfied with the size of the sharpness-sweetspot
any even lesser (2-3) that say it was great
so the consens in the forum is: size of the sweetspot where you see sharp is small
i have to say: since is modded my G2 for more FOV the size of the sweetspot also increased.. its still not good
but its not THAT bad anymore.. i also considered to return my G2 before that
now i will keep it
(i have also Quest1, Quest2 and Index)
i think around 10 People have sendet there G2 to sebastian, me included
I get about 20 degrees of real clarity, but beyond that everything becomes quickly blurry. Its really bad , but not sure if I can still return it because 2 weeks just passed
have u returned them?
I'm glad mine is working properly because the picture is incredibly good.
I had a rift cv1 with 3 tracking stations. I am here to say I concur with everything you have experienced. Absolutely amazing visuals and I for myself even after my previous headset had absolutely perfect tracking the g2 is absolutely acceptable for me and brings so much more joy than pain.
3:26 So THAT is why everything is blurry and blue on my display!
Hahahahahhaha
Its not that the sweet spot is small but that the blurriness is way more substantial than on other headsets, thats what people hate
Higher res = more dramatic
There is variety between the sets: first set I received wasn’t really clear yet since I didn’t have any experience with VR I kept it. After a week the headset appeared faulty - there was a blue vertical line displayed at all times. So I gave it back and claimed the new one. The one I got was much, much clearer than the first one. Also I had the impression that the first headset was overall flimsier and IPD adjustment knob was really loose. The one I have now is just much better than the first one I got.
Can you check the label on the cable just before it connects to the headset - and see if it says REV A or something else
@@imaginariumkey it says “REV.A” among other things on the one I have now. The previous I had before - I don’t know what did it say, I didn’t check.
I tried a g2, and could not perceive any difference with my g1 pro v2, i only play sim car games, and flight games.
And the price is absolutly too high for a very little difference with the quest 2.
can you please also try the reverb on your head to see if you can see a difference with your oun eyes?
Of course I did that. No difference.

@@JoelSpatz_ That is the problem, in my experience, the image is so crisp that i really cannot see a difference with my monitor 1440p 120hz. anyway, what MRTV is showing in this video, is exactly what i see with my headset

@@adamdevo7179 good to know. I've just realised it's actually not bad sweet spot for me if I remove my glasses. Still an amazing image.
It would be ok iq if the 10% wasnt there. If everything is a bit blurry its not as distracting.
@@frederikgoogel5611 - imagine if HP made new lenses for it, with the same clarity in the middle over the whole display - what an amazing headset. HP should make the aspherical lenses instead of the fresnel and send them out as replacements, I'd even pay for them. At the moment it is a shame the display is being hampered by these poor lenses
cause when I get it lined up in the middle, the clarity at the very centre is stunning, literally as sharp as the real world, but then if you turn your head even a small amount, the sharpness fades
@@imaginariumkey exactly. I said on another video before that 2160p seems enough because i have the feeling that the 10 % center is like real life.

He did not prove anything, lol
isnt the sweet spot easier to find when youre eye would be directly on the lens? when normally wearing the headset, your eyes stay a bit further from the lens, so the sweet spot is smaller.
The G2 has more problems that need fixed than the lenses, that is for sure.
Hmmm. Ill try that once i get my G2. Thanks for dharing
Today I tested the Reverb G2 on iRacing. Unable to complete a lap. Huge nausea hit me. Beforehand I had used it for 20min on Alyx with minimal issues emerging toward the end. It's not encouraging. After 6h I still have some little nausea left. Not sure I could use it.
Very very useful and important video, thanks !
My odyssey plus had a pretty big sweet spot also, but the g-2 is just waaay clearer overall.
Same, although I must say, jumping back and forth between them I still feel Odyssey+ has a fantastic image for its resolution.
@ same feel
Sebastian, can you also check to see if all headsets have the same horizontal banding about 1/3 of people are reporting? If it's something you yourself have noticed? The faint dim lines some think is mura? Thx! Want to know if I should return mine.
I am experiencing the same problem, I think its something to do with Nvidia driver issues.

NVIDIA Zeroing In On ‘Root Cause’ Of RTX Frame Drop Issue

HARRY BAKER
JANUARY 08, 2021
Has your NVIDIA RTX graphics card been dropping frames in VR?
No updates had been given since then, until this week when NVIDIA commented on the forums and provided an update:
“Yesterday some progress was made in identifying the root cause. Our software team is confirming this so I don’t want to overstate the findings but it is good news. Isolating the root cause has been challenging and I do apologize for the delay.”
We’ll have updates as soon as we hear a timeline for when a potential fix or driver update might arrive for users affected by the issue.
Where can we find this test sheet to compare with our own headset?

I really don’t like my G2. In fact I kinda hate it.
I constantly lose tracking whenever I remove the HMD. All I’m doing is sitting in a simulator. The sweet spot sucks for me as well as the fov. I can’t use the built in headphones cause I can hear my simulator making noise. Trying to get it running good across all my sim titles with an 8700k and 2080ti isn’t very easy.
If you hate it you should probably give it back and go for the Index.

Unfortunately it's just a sample size of two.
I'm waiting to see his comparison of a couple headsets from people in Germany who said their sweetspot was bad and are shipping their headsets to him. This looks promising at least though
Seb, you look far better with longer hair than short hair!
I actually love seeing the middle shed on VR reviewers (caused by the head strap) because it shows how much time they have been spending in VR :)
By the way for sweet spot comparison, in which programme the numerical cartesian table is?

So if someone can help and if MRTV have solution or video about binding on G2 ^^
Thaanks !
@@danielkaaska54 ok Thanks for that issue ... it seem really specific but i hope i will not have this !
Hi, check out testhmd.com
i think it has to do with the distance of the eye to the lens (the eye relief).
I would go for the Quest 2 instead. For me the g2 is really blurry near the edges and the controllers and tracking is subpar
